21-22 Virtual Academy Families
If you registered your son/daughter into the Virtual Academy program for the 2021-22 school year, I sent you a special school message on Friday and again today. As COVID restrictions continue to lift many families are opting out of VA. If you wish for your child to remain registered in Virtual Academy for the 2021-22 school year, no action is required. However, if you want to opt out of VA the last day is Wednesday, May 19. After May 19, the school district will not allow transfers into or out of Virtual Academy during the semester except for very extreme circumstances. Here is why:
- Each school must have an accurate count of students attending Virtual Academy and those attending in person so they can create staffing plans and schedules. Without this information, some teachers will be required to teach both in-person and Virtual Academy students at the same time.
- Transferring during the semester will result in students having to change teachers, whether in the Virtual Academy or in person.
- Virtual Academy students will most likely be assigned teachers and attend classes with students from other schools. That means any movement within a semester affects multiple schools.
21-22 VA GLHS Meeting
If you would like specific information about what courses GLHS will be able to teach, please join us virtually on Tuesday, May 18 at 6:30 pm. If you did not save this link from the earlier school message, please contact Judy Miller at Jmiller3@wcpss.net or use the Contact Us link.
How do I opt out?
If you wish to remove your son/daughter from next year’s Virtual Academy program, you must contact Judy Miller (Jmiller3@wcpss.net) by the end of the day on Wednesday, May 19. If you wish for your child to remain registered in Virtual Academy for the 2021-22 school year, no action is required.
AP Exams
AP Exams begin on Wednesday, May 19. We have over 600 students who have not logged in and set up with Digital App for taking their AP Exam from home yet! Per CollegeBoard, students MUST set up their accounts before the exam day in order to take their exam digitally at home. If you have not done so, please review the AP information on the GLHS Website HERE! More information from CollegeBoard about test rules/Honor Code guidelines, technology questions, and more, linked HERE!
To ensure a successful AP exam day,
- Students MUST log in and should practice each exam to make sure their technology is working BEFORE their test day.
- Students must log in 30 minutes prior to the exam on test day.
- Students will not be counted absent for the day they are taking an AP exam - however, students are responsible for any deadlines and missed work - please talk to teachers with any questions. Rosters for each AP exam will be sent to teachers and updated in Attendance.

2021-22 Student Clubs and Organizations
In preparation for the 2021-22 school year, we are excited to open the application window for new student clubs and organizations. Students wishing to initiate a new club/organization must please complete and submit this form by 11:55 pm on Friday, July 16, 2021.
Please keep in mind that submitting this form does not guarantee the approval of your proposal. Following the application, a staff committee will meet to review all submissions. Once the committee approves a proposal, club proposers will be contacted and tasked with securing a faculty advisor. Final approval will not be granted until a faculty advisor has confirmed their commitment to your club/organization.
