Principal Message (5/9/21)
Happy Mother’s Day to Everyone!
As we celebrate Mother's Day today, we know social distancing has been hard on everyone. It has been particularly tough for those who have lost or had to be apart from their moms for a long period of time due to COVID. So, in a year where nothing has been normal, hats off to all the mothers and mother figures! Take time today to gather and share your favorite mother stories:)
Teacher Appreciation Week
Big shout out to PTSA, students, and families for making last week so special for our teachers!
Juniors Updates:
Senior Fees:
Help us create a special year for our 1st Senior Class at GLHS! As a new school, we do not have an existing senior slush fund to get next year rolling for you! So, we need your help to pay your senior fees early so we can order your senior shirts, diplomas, give a deposit for prom and pay for other graduation expenses. Please click on this link HERE to pay the $75 Senior Fee. We are gladly accepting anonymous donations to sponsor other seniors.
Mark your Calendar:
July 19 to 23 for senior portraits at GLHS. This includes tux/drape, cap/gown, and casual. We will send more information by the end of the school year.
Rising Senior Night:
If you missed the Rising Senior meeting last week, then use this link HERE to access information.
New Immunization Requirements:
North Carolina law now requires all rising 12th graders receive a meningococcal vaccine booster before starting 12th grade. This includes those students enrolled in the Virtual Academy. The vaccination must be done before the 2021-22 school year begins. Parents will need to provide a copy of their child’s immunization record showing proof that the meningococcal vaccine has been completed prior to the first day of school. This is a 2-dose immunization; the 1st does was required in the 7th grade in Wake County schools. This requirement is for everyone in the Class of 2021 and after.
Please send your immunization updates to:
Email: acarrillo@wcpss.net or
Fax: 919-589-6734 Attn: Ms. Carrillo
More information can be found on the Wake Gov website HERE!
Update on Face Coverings
Face coverings are no longer required outdoors; however, they are required indoors and on school transportation. Please note that the option belongs to the student or staff member on whether to wear a mask outdoors. NCDHHS still recommends that anyone who is not vaccinated continue to wear a face-covering when they are closer than six feet to another person, even when outdoors.
Green Level's HOSA Club
From May 10 to May 19, HOSA is hosting a clothing drive for “Note in the Pocket.” Please support us by donating gently used clothes in bins outside the main school doors.
Optional Schol-Wide Fasting Challenge
To support and show solidarity with our Muslim Student Association (MSA), we are inviting others to participate in fasting on Wednesday, May 12, from sun-up to sun-down in observance of the last day of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid. Once again, this is optional! If you want to learn more about MSA, please sign up for the MSA Connectivity on Tuesday, May 11.
