Meet the Academic Support Team!
Professionally: My name is Ashely Bordeaux. I have been the School Counselor here at Kingswood Elementary School since 2011. In order to be a School Counselor you must obtain a master’s degree. I received my master’s from Campbell University and went on to obtain a post-master’s certification from UNC-Greensboro. I am also a National Board Certified School Counselor. School Counselors provide education, prevention, early identification and intervention through a Comprehensive School Counseling Program to help students with academic, career and social/emotional skills in response to issues that they face daily. I help provide the link between students, families, school and community!!! United We Stand!!!
Personally: On a personal level I like running, basketball and any form of exercise. In my spare time I like traveling, visiting family and friends, and reading a good book on my deck.
I love my job and the unique challenges each day brings. As a School Psychologist, I help students to succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. I have served Kingswood for 4 years and have worked for WCPSS for 13 years.
I earned my bachelor's degree in Psychology from SUNY Fredonia and Master's degree in School Psychology from Niagara University. My husband Ryan is a WCPSS counselor. We have two daughters, Madilyn and Corinne, and a dog named Scout.
I enjoy running, hiking, and spending time with my family. Please feel free to contact me with any questions!
Hi! I’m Brad Berggren, but most of my students call me Mr. B. I grew up in the New Orleans, Louisiana area, where I received a bachelor's degree in Psychology and a master's degree in Social Work at Tulane University. My wife and I moved to North Carolina in 2014 after visiting the state and falling in love with it. This is my 2nd year at Kingswood, and my 5th year as a WCPSS School Social Worker; but it also marks the 15th year of my social work career. When I'm not working, I enjoy biking, reading, and listening to music. I also recently learned how to ride a motorcycle! As the school social worker, I am here to support students, families, and staff as we all work together to ensure student success, whether remotely or in person.
This is my eighth year here at Kingswood. I am a native North Carolinian. I received my undergraduate degree from Barton College and my Graduate degree from NC State. Things I love: Sephora, Amazon Prime and working out at GC Camp Gladiator!!! Wut! Wut!!

K-2 Literacy Coach/Intervention
Hello, my name is Niki Murray and I am happy to be embarking on my eighth year at Kingswood! My educational background includes receiving my undergraduate degree in Psychology from SUNY Stony Brook, followed by my master's degree in Special Education from Dowling College. My family and I moved here from Long Island, New York in 2013. After relocating, I immediately began my journey at Kingswood as a special education teacher, followed by four years as a classroom teacher in third grade. Two years ago, I transitioned out of the classroom into the role of Literacy Coach and Reading Interventionist. In addition to Literacy Coach and Reading Interventionist, I am also serving as the Intervention Team Facilitator for the third year. My husband and I just celebrated another exciting anniversary with our two daughters. Recently, we added a new family member, an Australian Labradoodle, which has been an adventure. I love to spend my free time with my family going on road trips, trying new restaurants, and watching classic movies and old television series!
This is my 12th year at Kingswood where I have been math coach, 3rd and 5th grade teacher, STEM teacher, and AIG teacher. I grew up in North Carolina and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. majoring in Political Science and earning a Master of Arts in Teaching. I love hiking, exercising, reading, cooking, carpentry, and spending time with family. (And don't even get me started about Tar Heel basketball!) The most exciting thing I have ever done was jumping out of an airplane. I feel fortunate to get to work with amazing young people who always surprise me and teach me every day.
I am so excited to be working with students across the school this year as the ESL Teacher. This is my second year in this role and my third year at Kingswood. Prior to becoming an ESL teacher, I was an intervention teacher for one year at Kingswood, and a 5th grade classroom teacher in Miami, Florida since 2000. I love language and working with students from across the world. I am also a mother of 3 children; two girls and a boy, who are my greatest joys. When I'm not teaching or parenting, my hobbies include healthy cooking, traveling, playing tennis, playing and watching soccer, crafting pottery, reading, and partaking in anything outdoors. I look forward to a great year together!
This is my 6th year working at Kingswood Elementary. I have been a speech pathologist for 16 years, and worked in both the school setting and medical setting. I received my undergraduate and graduate degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill. Go Tarheels! I grew up in Chapel Hill and Goldsboro, and currently live in Cary. I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children, going to the beach, and playing tennis.
