Principal's Weekly Message, 8-25-23
Greetings LRMS Families,
It was great to see so many of you for LIONS Camp and Walk-the-Schedule yesterday. We're excited to welcome all of our Lions to school on Monday!
Here are your weekly updates:
1. Next week is a five-day week of school.
2. If you missed it, here is the LRMS Opening Letter with Important Information you may need to start the year. Here is the Wake County Schools Opening Letter.
3. LRMS bus routes and estimated start times have been posted here on our website. Please be sure you utilize the Here Comes the Bus app to track your student's route. I would also bookmark the WCPSS Bus Updates Page and check it each morning to see if a route is running that day. If you have questions for the transportation department, we have been instructed to direct you to the online form. It is our hope that some of these late arrival and departure times will improve as the year progresses.
4. Please be patient with carpool these first few weeks. Our team will utilize the same approach from last year, except that tags are no longer required.
Mornings - There are still two drop-off lanes in the morning - no merging is required. If you are coming from the elementary side of campus, turn right, and stay in the right lane. If you come from the high school side of campus, turn left, and stay in the left lane. Our staff is available to support carpool from 7:50-8:15 each morning.
Afternoons - Please utilize both lanes as you turn into the school from Pride Way. Our staff will direct you at the entry point. These two lanes will merge as you approach the front of the school. Our staff will direct you when it is your turn to merge as well. Please encourage your students to be attentive at the curb so that students can depart safely and efficiently. No students will be permitted to walk down to Pride Way or into our staff lot to meet their rides. Our staff is available to support carpool typically from 3-3:30 each afternoon. We will stay outside longer to accommodate the first several days of school.
5. Fall Sports - Please remember that registration for fall sports (Football, Girl's Soccer, Volleyball, and Cheerleading) needs to be completed as soon as possible. This includes uploading current PPE Physical Examination and PPE Medical Eligibility forms that were completed by a doctor. (Everything must be updated in Dragonfly for your student to participate.) Tryouts for these sports will begin September 5th immediately after school (students report to the cafeteria).
6. Technology:
We will do our best to get all Chromebooks distributed as quickly as possible. We have already reached out to WCPSS Tech Services to request more devices for students who are new to our school. Students should bring Chromebooks to and from school every day. Students still waiting for Chromebooks from WCPSS will not be penalized for incomplete work that is technologically based.
Cell phones are not permitted for use during the instructional day, 8:15am-3pm. Cell phones or other smart devices that become a distraction will be confiscated until the end of the school day.
Air pods are not permitted. Wired headphones are allowed for some instructional tasks at the teacher's discretion.
7. Visitors and Volunteers: Hopefully you saw that WCPSS has a new Visitor Management System at all of its schools. Please be patient when coming to our campus as each visit prompts a live background check for any guests to the building. We have placed a QR code for you to scan by the front door. Bring your phone and your ID up to the front door and scan the code.
If you are planning to be a field trip chaperone or volunteer at our school in any capacity, please be sure to register with WCPSS here.
