Monday Memo – Good evening Garner Nation; this is Principal Carter Hillman with a Monday Memo:

    • All information provided in this Memo is posted on the GMHS website under the “Principal’s Message.”
    • This Thursday, May 13th, is a county-based Asynchronous Day.  There will be no live instruction as teachers will post assignments to be completed.  Students will be marked present for classes by completing these assignments.
    • Do you have a student seeking a career in professional sports or want to play in college?  Encourage your student to join us next Tuesday, May 18th, at 7:00 PM for a virtual event to hear from three Garner Alumni who received multiple college scholarships, played in college, and in the NFL.  They will talk about NCAA guidelines, eligibility requirements, challenges and benefits of playing at the next level, making it to the pros, and much more.  Topics will benefit all athletes.  Go to the GMHS website and look under Career Services to learn more and to register.
    • Attention Juniors and Seniors.  Traditional Summer School Applications are now open.  Those juniors and seniors who feel they are in jeopardy of not passing a class(es) needed for graduation, please visit the GMHS home page and click on the link entitled "Traditional Summer School."  There are only 60 spots available, so students will be selected by grade level on a first come, first serve basis.
    • GMHS has posted its final exam schedule on the website home page.  Students who are assigned to take CTE and EOC state-based exams are required to take these exams in person.  All teacher-made exams will be virtual this school year to reduce the number of students coming to school during final exams.  During the first four days of exams, any student who needs to come to school for a CTE exam can stay for both exam periods and take their virtual exam in that teacher’s classroom.  For questions about your student’s specific exam schedule, please reach out to your student’s teachers.
    • Parents, did you know that Career Services sends out a weekly email to all student’s WCPSS email address by Friday of each week.  The email contains information about part-time jobs for all students, full-time jobs for upcoming graduates, summer camps, virtual events, and so much more.  Contact Mrs. Daughenbaugh if you have any questions.
    • Attention Seniors and parents: Please mark your calendars for Thursday, June 10th for graduation ceremonies in Trojan Stadium.  There will be two graduation sessions (based on the student’s last name) at 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM.  Should there be inclement weather, the make-up day is Friday, June 11th, same times.  Graduation rehearsals have been set for Tuesday, June 8th at 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM.  Seniors must be at rehearsal in order participate in their graduation ceremony.
    • That ends your announcements for this evening.  Please keep your students safe, continue to keep in communication with your teachers, and have a good evening.
