Monday Memo – Good evening Garner Nation; this is Principal Carter Hillman with a Monday Memo:

    • All information provided in this Memo is posted on the GMHS website under the “Principal’s Message.”
    • Parents: The GMHS Leadership team is making the following recommendation for all students who are currently learning online.  Students should have their cameras on so that teachers can assess engagement.  Not having the camera on provides the opportunity for students to join a Google Meet and then disengage, focus on another task, or fall back to sleep.  Students who are engaged in class are 80% more likely to be successful in the class.  Please have a conversation with your student as to how they are engaging and participating in their classes.
    • Attention Parents:  BETA Club invitations were sent to students, via their school-based emails, last Thursday, November 19th.  The BETA Club is GMHS’s long standing honor’s organization focused on leadership, good character, service, and academic achievement.  Students in grades 10 through 12, with a minimum weighted GPA of 3.5, should have received an invitation.  Students in these grades who believe they meet the GPA requirement should check their email.  The deadline for returning your BETA form is Thursday, December 3rd.  No late digital forms or dues will be accepted after the deadline.  If your student did not get an invitation and believes they should have, especially if your student is new to GMHS, please email Mrs. Norris or Ms. Marsh.
    • Today and tomorrow, Tuesday, November 23rd and 24th, are Remote Learning Days.  There will be no live instruction on these days, but teachers will post assignments to be completed.  Students will be marked present for classes by completing these assignments.
    • There will be no school for students and staff on November 25th, 26th, and 27th, due to the Thanksgiving holiday.  Students will return to online instruction on Monday, November 30th.  It is a “B” day.
    • Students, if you are interested in participating in sports this year, please review the Sports Calendar located on the GMHS website under Athletics.  Contact information for all coaches can be found on the school’s Athletics webpage.  Prior to any workout, student-athletes will need to complete the online Athletics Registration and Covid-19 Pre-Participation Health Questionnaire.  Both forms can be found on the school’s Athletic webpage.  Additional guidelines will be provided from coaches regarding health screenings and all needed information will be posted on our website.
    • Attention Senior Parents: If you still need senior pictures taken, please visit prestigeportraits.com for in-studio photos.  All photos must be taken and/or scheduled before or on Tuesday, December 8th.  Anything after this date, you will risk photos not making it into the yearbook.  If you have further questions, please email Mrs. Easton.
    • GMHS Yearbooks are now on sale.  To remember this memorial year, please go to yearbookforever.com to purchase a book at $55.00 until January 8th.  Senior Ads are on sale until January 8th.  Senior parents can customize and create your child’s senior ad for the yearbook by visiting yearbookforever.com.
    • Attention Parents of bus riders:  WCPSS will provide transportation to eligible students who will be participating in in-person instruction beginning on Wednesday, January 20th.  Before a student can ride the bus, a parent or guardian is required to complete and sign a Health Attestation Form.  GMHS is providing this information well in advance to allow families time to complete this process prior to students returning to campus.  This link is posted on the WCPSS website under “Transportation” and will be posted on the GMHS website as well.  The direct link is: wcpss.net/busform.  Please contact GMHS should you have any questions.
    • That ends your announcements for this evening.  Please keep your students safe and have a blessed Thanksgiving Break.
