Good evening, Trojans. This is principal Matthew Price with your weekly announcements

First, a reminder that this Friday is a teacher workday. There will be no school for students.

I remain proud of our students and staff after Friday’s lock-down. Please remember that if you see anything that may look out of place, please let the closest adult know. If you see something, say something. This is how we can all work together to ensure that GMHS remains a safe place to learn and succeed.

Our Greatness of Garner event is this Friday prior to the football game. Come out and see all that Garner has to offer before cheering on the Trojans. Events begin at 5:15.

Please join the GMHS Student Services department and a financial aid representative to learn about the college application process and financial aid. This event will be held from 6:30-7:30 in the auditorium on September 19th.

BETA Club NEW member invites were sent to qualifying students in grades 10-12 via student emails Monday afternoon, September 16th. The BETA Club is our school’s honors club.  In order to receive an invitation, students must have a minimum weighted GPA of 3.5. BETA members are expected to be involved in extracurricular activities and have outstanding character.  If you feel as though you did not receive an invitation in error OR if you are new to GMHS and believe you qualify, please see either Mrs. Norris (3005) or Ms. Marsh (4112). Form submissions ARE time sensitive, and NO late forms will be accepted.  Students have until Monday, September 30th to complete the form and pay the membership fee

We will be offering the school day administration of the PSAT/NMSQT on October 16, 2024. WCPSS will pay for the administration for 11th grade students who have a GPA of 4.375 or higher. Check with your counselor to see if you qualify.  However, any 9th - 11th grader may take the PSAT, they will just pay the testing fee on the GMHS website if it’s not covered. If you are interested in taking the PSAT on campus on October 16th, please sign up below. Once you sign up, please make your payment and provide accurate contact information. The sign-up deadline is September 18th. Please email Mrs. Harris at mpharris@wcpss.net with any questions.

Parents, when we have inclement weather in the morning we will move the express carpool drop off up to right before the student crosswalk and students will be allowed to enter through the side door.  Please do not go past the crosswalk for the safety of our students.

As always, if you know of a faculty or staff member who is demonstrating Excellence, please send us a quick note using the Trojan Shout Out link.

These are all the announcements that I have for this week. I hope everyone had a great weekend, and let’s lock in on our grades as we move through this second month of school. Remember that there is Homework Club tutoring each Wednesday after school. GO TROJANS!

Good evening, Trojans. This is principal Matthew Price with your weekly announcements

This weekend will be our first mandatory grade update in PowerSchool. All classes should have grades at this point. Please feel free to contact the teachers if there are grading questions.

Each year I have a group of students who I meet with monthly to discuss the climate and events here at GMHS to make sure that what we do is the best for every student who walks through our doors. If you are interested in possibly serving as a student representative for your grade level on the Principal’s Student Advisory Board, please fill out the quick application form here. This is a great way to represent your peers and have your voice heard in the school!

Our Open House/Meet-the-teacher night is this week! Parents are welcome to come to school on Thursday of this week between 6:00 and 7:30 pm for a drop-in style open house. You will have a chance to meet your student’s teachers as well as see what clubs and organizations your student may be able to participate in while here at GMHS.

Catch the early bird special! Buy a yearbook for $65 at yearbookforever.com.

Senior Parents, you don't want to miss an opportunity to create your child a  Senior Ad. There is limited space so purchase now! Ads will be on sale until January 24th. Go to yearbookforever.com to purchase and create! If you have any further questions, please contact Mrs. Easton.

Senior Portrait Makeup Day will be Wednesday, October 9 in the small gym. During this session, seniors will take their drapes and casual photos. This is the only make-up day. Please remember, that all senior photos must go through Prestige portraits for the yearbook, so please plan accordingly. Lastly,  students must pick their appointment times by October 7th. Students can find the sign-up form on the school website or their English teacher's learning platforms.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Easton.

Carpool is still running nicely, but could be a little bit better. Please remember that there is to be no dropping off in the left lane, nor should the left lane be used to pass others in carpool in order to cut into line at the drop-off point. Students should exit their cars once they’ve come to a stop beyond the awning on the side of the building. Please do not wait through several cycles of drop-off in order to get the very front spot for drop-off. Additionally, no students should be dropped off in the bus lot.

Freshman parents; Your student received their GMHS specific student planner in class last week. Please encourage them to use this planner to record their homework for each class, record quiz and test dates, and plan for projects and due dates. The planner is a great organization tool for your student to have a successful school year and for you to know what is happening in class each day.

These are all of the announcements that I have for this week. I hope that you all had a great weekend, and GO TROJANS!

Good evening, Trojans. This is principal Matthew Price with your weekly announcements

First, please let me begin by thanking all of our parents and students for what has been a tremendous start to the school year. Arrival and dismissal (including carpool) have gone very well already this year. Please continue to remain tight in the carpool line to minimize congestion and speed up getting students to class. Thank you all also for helping us ensure that we get students in every class, every day. Today was also the first day of implementation of our tardy sweep and cell phone policies. Students appear to have navigated both with ease, and I am proud of them.

Underclassman picture day is this Friday. Please check the website for the schedule of when students should come down to the first floor to have their picture taken. They will also get this information in school this week.

Our open house/meet the teacher night will be held on September 12th from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. This will be a drop-in format so please feel free to drop by and meet your student’s teachers.

Please join the GMHS Student Services department and a financial aid representative to learn about the college application process and financial aid. This event will be held from 6:30-7:30 in the auditorium on September 19th.

Our marching band is holding a car wash fundraiser this coming weekend on Saturday, 9/7/24 from 10-2 at Popeye’s (1701 Pinewinds Dr Raleigh) Please come out and support the Marching Trojans.

The Blue Crew is our student section at athletic events, and you are welcome to join! There is no sign-up or need for an invitation. Join other students rooting on the Trojans at sporting events! If you’d like to buy a Blue Crew shirt to wear while you cheer you can use the QR codes on any of the posters hung in the building. Students also received the link in their school email from Ms.Cottengim. There is no requirement to buy though…just come on out and support the Trojans.

For those new to GMHS we have a special way to recognize teachers who are going above and beyond to show excellence in what they do. If you see an example of this and would like to share, please complete this Trojan Shout Out form. Teachers will be recognized in front of their peers for their excellence. The link is also permanently on the GMHS website.

Finally, there will be a student tailgate event hosted by the Student Government and Black Student Union before Friday’s home game. Come out to the area between the baseball and softball fields for tailgating experiences like food, games, and a DJ. Tailgate starts at 5:00. See you there!

These are all the announcements I have for this week. I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend, and GO TROJANS!
