Good evening, Trojans; this is principal Matthew Price with a few weekly messages.

First, all sophomores are reminded of the Pre-ACT test given on Thursday of this week. Please bring a calculator if you have one for this important college-readiness test.

This Wednesday will be our November “8-period day”, where students will go to each class in an effort to complete work and ensure that their grades are up-to-date. Please remember that you don’t have to wait until Wednesday if you have missing work. You should be completing it now to be turned in by Wednesday in order for there to be minimal negative impact to your grade.

We will host our IB Open House tomorrow night at 6 for any prospective IB/magnet students.

Please remember as we get closer to the end of the semester that student attendance is the number one predictor of success in school. While this has certainly already been a rough season for flu, Covid, and other illnesses, it is imperative that every student be in school every class, every day, when possible. While masking is still optional for all students, no student may wear ski masks in the building as they are against dress code.

If you have a moment please give one of our faculty/staff members a shout out using this form. They are much appreciated this time of year!

Mark your calendars for the upcoming Public Safety Academy fundraiser on December 9th. FCA will also be hosting a breakfast with Santa on Saturday at 8:30. Please see the flier on the GMHS website and help us spread the word to some of our neighborhood little ones. Finally, the PTA is hosting their annual craft fair on 12/10. Please help us spread the word about all of these community outreach events as we reestablish ourselves as a focal point of the Garner community.

These are all of the announcements that I have for today. I hope you all had a great holiday, and want to encourage everyone to refocus for a couple more weeks before we go away for Winter break. GO TROJANS!

Good evening, Trojans. This is principal Matthew Price with your weekly announcements. Please remember that there is no school tomorrow or Friday, and Thursday will be an early release. All students will be dismissed at 12:08 on Thursday.

Quarter 1 ended on Thursday of last week, and grades will be finalized this week. Report cards will go home on Monday 14.

The senior class group photo will be on November 10 during 2nd period. We would like all students to wear their class shirt or a black shirt. All senior picture-proof selections must be made by November 28. Seniors should select one formal and one casual image. If not selected, Prestige will select an image.  If you need help with selections, please email Mrs. Easton or stop by room 4114 before or after school.

The Drama Department has some exciting events these next two weeks. This week they are bringing back the Student-Directed One Acts performances with a public show on Wednesday, November 9th at 7:00pm. Tickets are $5 in the Auditorium. Please come support these seniors' directing debut.

Next week there will be Auditions for the Improv Troupe on Monday, November 14th from 2:30-4:00 pm in the Auditorium. All you need for the audition is a willingness to learn the Improv game.

Also, on November 16th and 17th there will be workshops for the spring musical, Anastasia. See the school website for more details about auditions or see Mrs. Hazelrigg in the Auditorium with questions.

We remain in need of people willing to work as substitutes in our building. If any of you are interested in going through the process to be approved as a substitute, please contact Ms. Stone at sstone2@wcpss.net for more information to get you signed up!

These are all of the announcements that I have for this week. GO TROJANS!

Good evening Trojans; this is principal Matthew Price with your weekly announcements.

The world languages department will be hosting an international festival on Wednesday November 2nd from 6:30 to 8pm. We invite all students and families to come out for a night of culture, performances, and even a food truck.

NC General statute dictates that seniors who do not have an updated Meningitis vaccination shot by Nov. 1st may not attend school, and their powerschools account will be disabled until the updated shot record is provided. Letters of students who may be impacted have already been sent out. Please email nwarren@wcpss.net with your updated immunization record to avoid being excluded from school.

This Wednesday is our next 8-period day. While last month was a resounding success, we did have many students and teachers share that the timing wasn’t long enough for some students. Please understand that you can be working on missing work now in preparation for turning it in on the 8-period day. I would encourage you to make sure that you have the work ready to submit on that date rather than waiting until then to attempt to complete the work. Additionally, many seemed to feel that the 8-period remediation day was unnecessary to attend. This is an instructional day, and all students are expected to attend regardless of their need for remediation.

Attention senior parents, all senior portraits must be taken at Prestige studios by October 29. Taking pictures past this date will risk pictures not making it into the yearbook. Please contact Mrs.Easton if you have any questions or concerns. Seniors, this is also the last week to submit senior quotes. All quotes should be completed in the link on the school website by October 29. Senior parents can buy a senior ad for the yearbook, but space is filling up quickly. To purchase and create your ad go to yearbookforever.com.

Everyone, please don't miss the early bird special to purchase a yearbook at $55. Go to yearbookforever.com to place an order. Price’s will go up as we get closer to the deadline for purchase, so get yours at the discounted rate today.

Don’t forget that our “Too Cute to Spook” trunk-or-treat event for community outreach will take place this Friday from 6:00-8:00 at the school. Local trick-or-treaters can come by for events and fun planned by our students. There is a requested donation of 3 cans of food per family for admission. Please share this information with neighbors and civic organizations that may have little ones that want to attend.

Finally, the Garner High PTSA wants to thank everyone who pitched in to make the homecoming dance a success, and the nearly 400 students who made it such a fun and special event. Thank you! The next at-large PTSA meeting is Wednesday, 10/26 at 7pm in the GMHS media center. All are welcome to join, especially if you want to be a part of making more great things happen at our school. If you can’t make it to the meeting but want to join the PTSA, please do.

Good evening Trojans, this is principal Matthew Price with your weekly announcements.

This week is College Application Week for all North Carolina Schools. We have events and contests throughout the week to celebrate and encourage students to begin the process of applying to colleges. Many colleges are waiving the application fee this week as well. See the GMHS website for the list of events and times that student can come in to receive assistance with this process!

We are pushing again to get every parent access to their student’s grades in PowerSchool. If you don’t have the PowerSchool parent portal access please contact Ms. Warren at nwarren@wcpss.net to get that access.

Our Black Student Union is hosting a trunk-or-treat event for Garner children who would like a safe and non-scary place to trick or treat. The event will be on October 28 from 6:30-8:30. Please talk to your neighbors, civic organizations, churches, etc. to get the word out that we would love for them to come out and enjoy a safe and non-scary halloween event with us!

The Mighty Trojan Marching Band received several awards at the recent Tour of Wake North Band Competition at Rolesville High School. These included:

    1st Place Drum Major

    1st Place Music

    2nd Place General Effect

    2nd Place Percussion

    2nd Place Overall in Class

Congratulations to all of our band members for these honors.

Parents and students, this is the time of year that everyone working hard for you could use a little encouragement. Please feel free to recognize a teacher or staff member for working hard with theTrojan Shout out form found here.

We are seeing some exciting positive trends in attendance this month versus last month. We are hovering around 93% of students in class each day which is up from less than 90% last month. Thank you all for your work on getting students in the classroom so that the teachers can take over and help make them successful. Remember, the number one key to student success is being in every class, every day. Let’s keep at it as we work to make Garner shine!

These are all of the announcements that I have for this week. I hope you all had a great weekend, and GO TROJANS!
