Good evening, Trojans. This is principal Matthew Price with some important weekly announcements. It’s a very busy week here, so please pay close attention.

Our virtual informational meeting about the 3-year grad cohort session will be this Wednesday at 7:00 pm. All parents are invited to attend to learn about this option. The meeting link in on the GMHS webpage, and there will be plenty of time for questions.

We will have Coffee with the Principal tomorrow at 8:00 am. Anyone wishing to come in to enjoy some coffee and a chat can check in at the main office and will be directed to the appropriate room. Bring your own coffee, and the PTSA will provide some snacks.

Seniors and their families are reminded of the Baccalaureate service at Aversboro Baptist Church on May 5 at 2:00 pm. This event is sponsored by the Garner Education Foundation.

If you have a freshman or sophomore whose assigned Chromebook has issues, please have them submit the Chromebook Tech Assistance Request Form by Friday, May 3rd.  Classrooms have a flyer with the form's QR code on it. A link to the form can be found on the GMHS website under Students. It is much easier to deal with lost, damaged, or Chromebooks with issues before exams so students can have their fixed or replacement Chromebook for their exams.

Academic Recovery Plans from semester one are due this week on Wednesday’s 8 period day. Please make sure that you’ve completed everything in order to put yourself in the best position to finish up strong and pass all classes.

Families, we want to hear from you! We are participating with Wake County Public Schools to seek input to help strengthen our programs, both at GMHS and WCPSS. The link to the survey can be found on our website homepage, as well as our school social media accounts. We ask that families who have more than one student enrolled at Garner Magnet complete one survey for each student enrolled. The survey will remain open until May 13th.

Report cards went out last week for Q3. Everyone will not receive a report card, but you can continue to check PowerSchools for updates on grades and attendance. The students have one more quarter before we wrap up the school year.

If your student is planning on not returning to Garner Magnet HS for the 23-24 School year, please email Ms. Warren at nwarren@wcpss.net but only if you are planning on leaving the county.

NC Law requires all students to receive certain immunizations for school. If you are a parent of a rising senior (class of 2025) please submit your students updated immunization record to nwarren@wcpss.net. Your student should have two doses completed of the Meningococcal shot. They should have received one dose in 7th grade and a booster before their senior year.

If you have moved and need to update your address. Please reach out to Ms. Warren so that your next school year assignment can be updated.

The GMHS Dance Department hosts its Spring Dance Concert on Thursday April 25th at 7pm in the GMHS Auditorium. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students.  Please contact Mrs. Comden at acomden@wcpss.net for questions.  We hope to see you there!

Next Monday, April 29, is a teacher workday. There will be no school for students.

Finally, this is the last week to get prom tickets at the discounted price. They will go up on 5/1. Make sure you get those if you plan to attend prom on May 11.

These are all the announcements that I have for this week. I hope that you all had a great weekend, and GO TROJANS!

Good evening, Trojans. This is principal Matthew Price with your weekly announcements.

First, quarter 3 ends tomorrow, with a teacher workday on Wednesday. Be sure to get everything finalized to bring those grades up as high as you can moving into the last quarter of the year.

If your student is planning on not returning to Garner Magnet HS for the 23-24 School year, please email Ms. Warren at nwarren@wcpss.net but only if you are planning on leaving the county. If you have moved and need to update your address. Please reach out to Ms. Warren so that your next school assignment can be updated

Also, NC Law requires all students to receive certain immunizations for school. If you are a parent of a rising senior (class of 2025) please submit your students updated immunization record to nwarren@wcpss.net. Your student should have two doses completed of the Meningococcal shot. They should have received one dose in 7th grade and a booster before their senior year.

Tickets are still on sale for our Prom on May 11. Be sure to get those before the price goes up. Details are on the GMHS website.

We want to wish our Battle of the Books team good luck as they represent Wake County in the regional competition tomorrow.  If we win regionals, we'll go to the state competition!

The Improv Troupe will have a benefit performance in the Auditorium on Tuesday, April 16th, at 5:30pm. Admission is $5 and all ticket sales will go toward Garner's Relay for Life. Runtime is a little over one hour and concessions will be available.

On Saturday, May 4, the Drama Department will be having a free children's event for the community starting at 10:00am. Following the children's theater performance in the Auditorium, there will be an outdoor "touch-a-truck" event with the GMHS firetruck. Target audience is ages 2 to 10, but all are welcome for this family event.

Finally, Hope Community Church has once again partnered with GMHS to offer Sunday tutoring sessions for the next two weeks to help students finalize ARP’s and academically prepare for the end of the school year. We’ve had great turnout at our Wednesday afternoon sessions which are still ongoing, and they have expanded their outreach to offer these weekend hours. I hope that everyone takes advantage of this wonderful opportunity from 11:30-1:00 on Sundays. Just come in through the auditorium entrance and get to work. They provide snacks and homework/ARP assistance!

These are all of the announcements for this week. Everyone have a great week, and GO TROJANS!

Good evening, Trojans. This is principal Matthew Price with your weekly announcements.

Don’t forget that prom is coming up. All juniors and seniors in good academic standing are invited to attend prom. You may bring a guest from outside of GMHS as long as you have a completed guest form on file. Links to details and the prom guest form can be found on the GMHS website.

North Carolina House Bill 259 requires us to notify our current enrolled 9th and 10th grade students of the opportunity to graduate from high school after their third year. This legislation allows students to apply to be a 3-Year Graduate. Eligible students are only able to apply for this flexibility if they meet the state’s minimum graduation requirements. We value the high school experience and believe that high school provides students with an opportunity to expand their academic pursuits and interests.  However, we also realize that this opportunity may be of interest to some of our families. We will hold a virtual meeting for interested students and families on April 24th at 7:00 pm. During this meeting, we will review all available information and provide an opportunity for questions. Please save the date for this virtual meeting, and more details and links will follow as that date approaches.

I’d like to invite our Hispanic families out tomorrow night for food and fellowship to meet with our Juntos program representatives. There will be childcare available for anyone with little ones they’d like to bring along. The event will occur in the cafeteria and will start at 5:30 pm. All are invited to attend to learn about the Juntos program and enjoy community fellowship.

Seniors are reminded of the two, $1000 scholarships being offered by the GMHS PTSA this year. Info went out to senior families, but you can also access the information via the GMHS website for more details.

Our next Coffee with the Principal event will be on April 23rd from 8:00-9:00 am in room 1110. Any parents or guardians who wish to attend are welcome. You can simply sign in at the front desk. Be sure to bring your own coffee!

Finally, we are soon wrapping up the 3rd quarter. We have seen a decline in attendance and grades during this quarter, and I want to encourage all students to recommit themselves to attending school and performing the best that they can in their classes as we move into the 4th quarter. 9 more weeks guys, we can do this!

These are all of the announcements that I have for this week. I trust that everyone had a relaxing and safe spring break and holiday, and GO TROJANS!
