Degrees and Certifications:
Hello! My name is Chanteal Alston and I am happy to be part of the Yates Mill family. I am from a small rural town in eastern North Carolina, Whitakers. I have worked for the Wake County Public School System since 2008 as a teacher and administrator. I also worked for Durham Public School System and North Hampton County Schools. I earned my master’s degree in School Administration and Curriculum and Instruction from East Carolina University. This year marks my 19th year in education!
I am the Instructional Facilitator, Intervention Teacher, School Improvement Chair, and Testing Coordinator at Yates Mill. In these roles, I will collaborate with teachers coaching and modeling research based instructional practices and collaborating with Professional Learning Teams to analyze student achievement data and assist them with any curriculum and professional development needs. I will also lead and work with staff and families on the School Improvement Plan and manage all the school's testing. I believe that learning can be both challenging and fun.
In my spare time you will catch me reading or watching reality tv. I love going to the beach year-round. My husband Derrick Sr. and I met in college at Elizabeth City State University. We live in Raleigh and have 2 children – Camille (21 years old, Pembroke University) and Derrick Jr. “DJ” (18 years old, East Carolina University). I am so excited to learn and grow with everyone at Yates Mill this year!
