Degrees and Certifications:
My name is Amy Pilz, mom to Sophia (11) and Adalyn (6), partner in the ownership of 4 amazing pizza restaurants, and committed first grade teacher. I was born and raised in Upstate NY. I went to Cortland State University and graduated with a BA in Elementary Education, PreK-6. I have been a teacher for 21 years. I worked for Durham Public Schools for five years teaching Kindergarten. This will be my sixteenth year teaching at Yates Mill Elementary.
I absolutely love teaching 6 & 7 year olds. I enjoy inspiring children to learn, strive to meet their goals and become responsible citizens in their community. I was inspired by my first grade teacher, Mrs. Rundle, to pursue teaching and implement the same welcoming, trusting, and driven atmosphere that she provided for so many young people.
Outside of my work life, I enjoy running, in which I have completed a few marathons. My favorites being the Country Music Marathon in Nashville, TN and the Rock and Roll in Virginia Beach. I love the beach and the mountain equally. I enjoy shopping, cooking, gardening and being artistic. I find time to read and relax when I can. I always love being with my children, doing anything adventurous. My life has been full of joy and courage, and as Archbishop Desmond Tutu said, “Courage is not the absence of fear, but the ability to act despite it.”
