Hello! My name is Stephanie Sowma, and I am so excited to be joining the first-grade team at Yates Mill Elementary School this year! This will be my fourth year teaching in Wake County Public Schools, but my fifteenth year as an educator. I have previously taught in Durham, NC, Minneapolis, MN, and Milwaukee, WI. 

I grew up in Kenosha, WI and graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Parkside with my Bachelor's degree in Anthropology and Women’s Studies. I received my Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Hamline University in St. Paul, MN. I currently live in Raleigh with my partner Adrian and our two cats, Hans and Otto. When I am not at school, I enjoy cooking, reading, and hiking. 

I am looking forward to becoming part of this wonderful school community and partnering with you in your child’s educational journey this school year!
