Mrs. Mendzef
My name is April Mendzef, and I am so excited to be serving the as Literacy Coach and Intervention Facilitator this year. I’d like to tell you a bit about myself. I was born in Lexington, Kentucky. I have also lived in West Palm Beach Florida. My family moved to North Carolina in 1989. I live in Raleigh with my husband, Rick, and our 3 children (Lillian, Andrew, and Ethan). We have three dogs and enjoy fostering rescue pups. This will be my 6th year at Yates Mill, and my 24th year of teaching.
I graduated from Cary High School. After high school, I went on to study education at East Carolina University as a NC Teaching Fellow. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Spanish. I continued my studies at North Carolina State University, where I earned my Masters Degree in education with a concentration in Instructional Supervision and Reading. I was awarded National Board Certification as an Early Childhood Generalist in 2008. I also earned my Masters in School Administration degree in 2020.
I love to exercise, cheer on my boys in hockey and basketball, play with my pets, and travel. I look forward supporting the staff and students at YMES this year to reach their fullest potential.
