Testing
The information below is intended to provide students and parents with quick information regarding common tests that are administered at our school. For more information on these and other assessments, please visit the WCPSS website.

Final Exams
**Specific exam information will be available at least two weeks prior to final exams.
Who:
- ALL students are expected to take final exams during the specific exam period
- Seniors are eligible for Senior exemptions. More Information
When:
- Last 5 days of each semester.
- Fall Semester 2024 Exam Schedule
- Spring Semester 2025 Exam Schedule
Details:
- Exams are administered in each class in which a student is enrolled.
- Students will take either a teacher-made exam, a North Carolina End of Course (EOC) exam, or a CTE post assessment.
- EOC courses are Math 1, Math 3, English II, and Biology.
- All exams are calculated as 20% of a student’s final grade.

Advanced Placement (AP) Testing
For the 2024-2025 school year, AP tests will be given from May 5-16. Details regarding AP Testing will be shared with students during the fall semester through their WCPSS email account. The schedule determined by College Board can be found at this link:

ACT
Who:
- All 11th grade students are REQUIRED to take the ACT at AFHS
- No registration required
When:
- March 12, 2025

ACT WorkKeys
Who:
- Students who met the qualifications:
- A Senior
- A CTE concentrator who has earned or will earn 2 or 3 credits with an advance level in a career cluster/pathway (https://center.ncsu.edu/nccte-cms/career_pathways.php)
When:
- Fall: November 19-21, 2024
- Spring: February 18-19, 2025

PreACT
Who:
- All 10th grade students are REQUIRED to take the PreACT at AFHS
- No registration is required
When:
- October 30, 2024
Details:
- Specific details about the PreACT at AFHS will be available as we approach the test date
- The PreACT has four components: English, Math, Reading, & Science. All sections are completed during one test session.
- Calculators are not provided. Students can complete the math exam without a calculator. If you want to use a calculator, please refer to the ACT website for approved calculators: The ACT® Calculator Policy

PSAT / NMSQT
**Please check back in late August/early September for registration information. Students are REQUIRED to register AND submit payment in order to participate in the PSAT/NMSQT administered at AFHS.
Who:
- Any student is eligible to register for the PSAT/NMSQT
- An $18 fee must be paid in order to test (NOTE: The $18 fee is for 2023. The fee for 2024 is not yet confirmed.)
- AFHS Juniors with a qualifying GPA will be eligible to take the exam free of charge. The specific GPA will be available in late August/early September.
When:
- October 16, 2024
Details:
- The PSAT is a standardized, multiple-choice test that includes three sections: critical reading, mathematics, and writing. The test provides practice for the SAT. Students who take the PSAT/NMSQT are automatically screened for the National Merit® Scholarship Program, an academic competition for recognition and scholarships.
