How many Wake Tech classes should I take?
As a general rule, we strongly recommend that students take no more than 2 courses total per semester to maintain balance and success.
-
Seniors: Up to 3 Wake Tech courses + 2 MHS classes
-
Juniors: 2 Wake Tech courses + 2-3 MHS classes
-
Freshmen & Sophomores: 1 Wake Tech course + 3 GLHS classes
Please remember: Wake Tech grades count twice — they appear on both your Wake Tech college transcript (which transfers to your future colleges) and your GLHS high school transcript/GPA. These grades cannot be removed or suppressed.

Are all classes weighted like AP courses?
No!
College Transfer Pathway (CTP)
Students accepted into the College Transfer Pathway can take Wake Tech courses that count as dual enrollment on your Millbrook transcript. These courses also transfer to most four-year colleges and universities. Most carry an additional +1.0 GPA weight. Please note: every grade you earn at Wake Tech will appear on your Millbrook transcript exactly as earned — no exceptions.
Career & Technical Education Pathway (CTE)
Students accepted into the Career & Technical Education Pathway can take Wake Tech courses that may also be added to your Millbrook transcript. These courses carry weighted GPA points based on level:-
Standard = no added weight
-
Honors = +0.5 GPA weight
-
College = +1.0 GPA weight
Just like with the College Transfer Pathway, all grades earned at Wake Tech will be added to your high school transcript. For a full list of CTE options, please see the updated CTE Course Weighted List.
Millbrook students and families are responsible for reaching out directly to their assigned school counselor if they have questions about course weighting. While the Wake Tech CCP program is an excellent opportunity to explore academic interests and get a head start on college, it is important to understand that these courses may impact your Millbrook GPA depending on the specific class.Student Services encourages students to take advantage of the program freely and confidently; however, we are not responsible for communicating individual course weights, only if questions arise from students and families. Students are expected to seek clarification from their Millbrook Counselors as needed to make informed decisions.

How will my Millbrook Schedule work with Wake Tech CCP?
Juniors and Seniors must be enrolled in a minimum of 4 Millbrook classes. Students must choose Wake Tech courses beginning after 11:00 if you are leaving Millbrook after 2nd period. If you are leaving after the 3rd period, choose Wake Tech courses after 1:30 or later to ensure you are able to arrive at class on time. Please note Millbrook, classes will take priority over Wake Tech classes. Please do not select any in-person classes during 1st or 2nd block.
-
How are AP courses at Millbrook similar to Wake Tech CCP courses?
Both provide rigorous, college-level learning experiences while you’re still in high school, offer weighted GPA credit, and can earn you transferable college credit that applies toward future degree programs.
-
Can an AP course ever be equivalent to a Wake Tech CCP course?
In some cases, yes. Many colleges provide credit equivalencies for AP courses based on your exam score. You can check the AP Credit Chart to see which AP courses may count as the same or similar college courses offered through Wake Tech CCP.
-
AP Courses: Credit is determined by your AP exam score (typically 3–5) and your college’s AP credit policy.
-
Wake Tech CCP Courses: Credit is awarded for your final grade in the class and appears on both your high school and Wake Tech transcripts.
While AP and CCP courses can sometimes be equivalent in terms of college credit, the method of earning that credit differs: AP = exam-based, CCP = course-based. Both can reduce college coursework and save time and money after high school.
