Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Nate Barilich, Assistant Principal Intern

I was raised in Jacksonville, North Carolina, as the son of a proud U.S. Marine and a preschool director, which fostered a deep commitment to service and education. I hold a Bachelor's degree in English Education from NC State University, where I was a North Carolina Teaching Fellow. I am currently pursuing my MSA at NCSU and am a part of the North Carolina Education Leadership Academy and NC Principal Fellows Program. For the past decade, I was a dedicated educator at Enloe Magnet High School, serving in roles such as English and Film Analysis teacher, intervention coordinator, and magnet coordinator, where I focused on curriculum enhancement, SEL implementation, and advocating for Magnet Programs, particularly the Gifted & Talented pathway. During the 2021-2022 school year, I was recognized as a WCPSS Top Ten Teacher of the Year Finalist.

Beyond my work as a teacher at Enloe, I led initiatives like the Enloe School Improvement Team, Grading Plan Committee, Junior Class Council, Crescenloe A Cappella, and was the chair of the Enloe Charity Ball Fund, which raised over $1 million for local nonprofits. Through this project, I taught student leaders vision and mission design, philanthropic leadership skills, and volunteer coordination. Between 2016 and 2020, I was an Executive Fellow with EducationNC, where I led the design and implementation of the EdAmbassadors program, worked with thought leaders across the country, facilitated statewide convenings on equity data, and published original content on EdNC. I am now excited to be part of Washington Elementary School and look forward to collaborating with the LeaderSIP team and strengthening the Gifted & Talented pathway. I am also passionate about SEL implementation and restorative justice initiatives such as community-building circles. In my spare time, I enjoy discussing Raleigh sports (Go Pack!), music, hiking, the beach (Topsail Island), the Blue Ridge Mountains, and local food, and I am eager to embrace my new role at Washington, trading my "eagle wings" for a "wizard hat."
