Clubs and Organizations
Our Leesville Road Middle School teachers invest supplemental personal time with their students by sponsoring free school clubs, performance groups, and opportunities for academic competitions during Flex Fridays as well as before and after school.

American Rocketry Club
Ms. Groesbeck, Ms. Simmons, and Ms. Maley
The American Rocketry Club is a national group for people interested in building and launching rockets. It promotes rocketry through events, competitions, and educational programs, helping students learn about aerospace and engineering. Through various activities and competitions, the club encourages innovation, teamwork, and a passion for aerospace among its members.
The American Rocketry Club will meet on Monday afternoons from 3:15-4:30pm in Ms. Groesbeck's room 138 for Fall semester and in Ms. Maley's AIG room 210 for the Spring semester.

Art Portfolio Club
This club is for Portfolio Development Students as well as any student who just likes creating art! For the welcome back project this year, students will create a collaborative design piece illustrating what belonging means to them. Students will use mind mapping, small groups, critiques, and design thinking.
The Art Club will meet 1 to 2 times per month on Wednesdays from 3:15 - 4:30pm.

Cheer Club
Cheer club is held during the spring sports season for all students interested in building their cheerleading skills. NO TRY-OUTS needed! We practice tumbling skills based on each participant’s level as well as learning beginner stunt techniques. We also cover basic cheerleading skills such as jumps, motions, flexibility, cheers, etc.
Cheer Club will meet Wednesday afternoons from 3:15-4:40pm in the gym. Email Coach Staten for more information.

Environmental Club
Please fill out this interest form if you would like to join the Environmental Club.
The LRMS Environmental Club learns about the environment and takes an active role in protecting our school's environment, including maintaining the pollinator gardens, tracking our courtyard turtles and doing regular litter walks.

We will meet every Tuesday after school 3:10-4:00pm. Students may also choose Environmental Club for their Flex Friday option.

Fall Running Club
The Running Club is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th graders and meets on Tuesdays after school starting on Septebmer 30th. Students may walk, jog or run at their own pace, with each student setting their own goals to improve their fitness level and overall health.
The Running Club is sponsored by New Balance Raleigh on Glenwood Avenue.

FCCLA - Family Career & Community Leaders of America
This club is open to previous or current students who are enrolled in the Family and Consumer Sciences Class. This organization has more than 244,00 middle school and high school members from over 5,300 chapters across the nation. The FCCLA club will strengthen skills, forge friendships, and make a positive difference in today's world. We will participate in competitive events, national conferences, leadership, and network with youth leaders. Please see Ms. Daye-Wilson for an application and further information about FCCLA.

Media Club & the WLRMS Morning News
Hear the Roar of the Lions! The Media Club at LRMS produces our daily WLRMS morning news segment. We also release monthly podcasts, weekly interviews, and other fun media which are posted to our YouTube channel.
Students in grades 6th-8th are welcome to join our team! As a member of this club, you will interview peers, teachers, administrators, and other guests from the community for both the podcast and the morning news.
WLRMS Morning News anchors and technicians will meet every morning in the Media Room (Studio 200G). We will meet as a full club only during Flex Fridays. Anchor auditions for WLRMS will be held on Friday, 9/19 after school. Reach out Mrs. Maley or Mr. Moore for more details.

Multi-Lingual Tutoring Club
We will provide a club where students will tutor ESL children and help them study, complete classwork, and/or homework. To be a tutor, it is preferred that the student has knowledge of another language.
Club will meet on Flex Fridays during LIONS time and once per week after school if there is a need for it. Reach out to Señor Paniccia for more information.

Musical Theater Performance
Each year, students can audition for a part in a musical theater production. Past productions include: The Lion King, Aladdin Jr., Peter Pan Jr., Finding Nemo, Shrek and Legally Blonde.

National Junior Honor Society
Selection and membership for the National Junior Honor Society at Leesville Road Middle School is based upon five principles: character, citizenship, service, leadership, and scholarship. Membership, however, is more than an honor. It is an ongoing responsibility and an obligation to continue to demonstrate those outstanding qualities that result in a student’s selection. Membership also carries a responsibility to the chapter.
Students apply at the end of their 7th grade year and are inducted into NJHS in the Fall for their 8th grade year.

Orchestra Club
Want to play a string instrument at Leesville Middle? Join the Orchestra Club! All students are invited to join - no experience necessary. Email Mrs. Kohring for more information.
Orchestra Club will meet every Monday from 3:00 - 4:30 P.M. starting October 7, 2024.

Student Council
Mrs. Maley - Advisor Ms. McCallister - CoAdvisor
The LRMS Student Council is the voice of the student body at LRMS - our NCASC approved council will vote on decisions related to activities, clubs, assemblies and other school-wide matters. They will attend some administrative school leadership meetings and will host and assist with school fundraisers for a variety of student activities as well as community outreach programs. All applications for the 25-26 school year need to be completed before Monday, September 15th. Election day for officer positions will be held during LIONS time on Tuesday, September 30th. We will meet 1-2 times per month either before or after school in the Media Center.
