At Apex Friendship High, we value the connection between attending school regularly and being successful! Our school will work to support students in ways that are feasible when they must miss school. We welcome partnerships with parents to support that effort!
When my student is absent, what should I do?
Students are required to submit an absence note when they miss school in order to excuse that absence. Absence notes can be submitted by (1) bringing the note to the attendance office, or (2) sending the note to afhsattendance@wcpss.net.
Per policy, absences can be excused for the following reasons:
- illness or injury
- a death in the family
- health care appointments
- court appearances
- religious observance
- natural disasters
- outside educational opportunities (prior approval is required using the Request for Absence for Educational Reasons form (English | Spanish)
Students should also communicate with their teachers about make-up work.
Early Release for a Student
For early release from school, a parent should send the student to school with a note on that day stating when (s)he is needs to be checked out and why. The Attenance Office can give him/her an Early Release Pass. When time comes, the student shows this pass to their teacher to leave school.
If the parent does not send a note, they will be required to come into the school to check out their student. Parents must present ID in order to check out their student from school.
