Why we do NOT have a Battle of the Books Team at Leesville Road Middle School:
Instructional Technology/Library Media Services does not support this as a "best practice” and does not support any central competition leading to regional or state events. Focus and funding for the next several years at the central level will continue to be concentrated on helping all teachers focus on best practices in literacy instruction and personalized, centers-based, inquiry learning using both traditional and digital resources while implementing NC Essential Standards.Past experiences with BOB in WCPSS indicate that the “road of good intentions” is fraught with pitfalls. For instance,- Unlike other “competitions” such as Odyssey of the Mind and Science Olympiad, BOB questions focus on recall of facts, characters, and incidents and other low-level thinking skills.
- Due to the competitive nature of BOB, students, teachers, coaches, and parents sometimes become more focused on strategies that allow them to “win” rather than the actual pleasure and experience of reading itself.
For that reason, LRMS has a Raising Reader's Book Club that provides a place for our readers and their parents to connect through books and conversation. Find out about Raising Readers Book Club here.

Mrs. Lisa Nelson
I re- joined the staff at LRMS in February 2014 as the Media Specialist. Formerly a Technology Assistant at Leesville Elementary (2005 - 2010) and the Media Assistant at Leesville Middle(2011), I worked as a Media Specialist at East Wake Middle and Daniels Middle prior to returning.
I love reading, jogging, and of course spending time with my family. I have an amazingliy cute and funny dog named Wembley. I am an avid Premier League Football fan and my favorite team is Tottenham Hotspur - Come on you Spurs!
I enjoy working with Middle School students. Whether I am helping them find the’ just right book’ or helping them navigate their way through the research process, every day is an adventure.
