• Student Council (STUCO)

Open to: all students who maintain a 3.0 quarterly

    Advisor(s): Mrs. Howland (jhowland@wcpss.net)

Meets: Wednesdays after school until 4:15

Salem Middle’s STUCO is looking for leaders who are #SalemProud and interested in getting involved, making decisions, and serving those in need. Any Salem student who is interested in being a part is welcome to join. Officers are elected in the spring (president and vice-president) and the fall (treasurer, secretary, and parliamentarian). The President must be an 8th grade student. StuCo is responsible for raising and lowering the flags on a daily basis, and our representatives also recite the pledge every morning during announcements and collect recycling weekly.

STUCO stays busy all year with its various projects. Each year we have one large fundraiser, such as a dance or carnival, which is used to fund improvements/projects at school. Recently, we were able to purchase a new Spartan mascot and refillable drinking fountains for students! We also provide free activities for students throughout the school year, including Black Light Bingo, ice cream socials, spirit weeks, candy grams, and game nights. StuCo is also involved in service projects to help the community such as canned food drives, coat and blanket drives, and participation in the Leukemia and Lymphoma’s Hero Squad Campaign to end blood borne cancers. This past year, we partnered with Ignite My Future in Schools and revitalized our school garden.
