Frequently Asked Questions
-
What services are available in the Media Center?
We are available for book check-outs, printing, studying, tech assistance, and tutoring. Teachers may also sign up their classes to come work on assignments and projects or collaborate with us.
-
How many books may I have checked out at a time?
Students may have up to 10 books out at a time.
-
How long may I keep a book out until it is overdue?
Books may be checked out for 3 weeks at a time. If you cannot remember when you checked a book out, we stamp the back of the book with the return date.
-
How do I return a book?
You may return a book in the drop box outside the Media Center doors, in the return slot of the circulation desk, or by handing your book directly to a member of the linrary staff.
-
Can a parent check out a Media Center resource?
No, at this time we do not have a system in place for parents to borrow resources such as books or technology.
-
My book is overdue! What do I do?
Return the book to us as soon as possible. We do not collect overdue fees unless the book was lost or the student does not return it before graduation.
-
My book is overdue but I still haven't finished it. What should I do?
We can renew books for an additional 3 weeks of checkout. We can do this 2 times (giving students a total of 9 weeks with a book) before we need to check the book back in. Additionally, if another student has the book in question on hold, we reserve the right to check it back in to ensure the next reader can get started.
-
I have an overdue book from a previous school. What do I do?
If the school is in Wake County, you can leave the book with us, and we can get it back through a courier service. If your previous school was not in Wake County, you will need to contact them about the steps needed to remove said book from your record.
-
How do I know if I have a fine on my acccount?
Every month, students with overdue materials or any other type of fine will receive an email to their WCPSS email accoint. Parents are notified of this once per quarter. A student may also ask a librarian directly to check their account for fines and fees.
-
There is a tech fine or book fine on my account. What are the consequences and how do I fix this?
Fines and fees can impact a student's ability to get a parking pass, a prom ticket, an off-campus lunch pass, or graduation tickets. Fees should be resolved using School Cash online.
