GMHS Monday Message: February 5, 2024

Posted by Matt Price on 2/5/2024 7:00:00 PM

Good evening, Trojans. This is principal Matthew Price with your weekly announcements.

First, I’d like to congratulate our counselors on receiving the NC Diamond Award for Excellence in School Counseling, and, hot off the presses, they also received National RAMP certification. Great job counselors.

This week is National School Counseling Week, Feb. 5-9. The 2024 theme is "School Counseling: Standards-Based, Student-Focused."  Your GMHS counselors want to focus on the student body this week to make sure you know who your counselor is, where they are located in the building, and how they can help you be successful.  Please come see your counselor this week before school, during lunches, or after school on the first floor, 1109A, for a SWEET TREAT just for stopping by.

The day has arrived! Our Curriculum Showcase for all students planning to attend GMHS next year will be tomorrow night from 5:30-7:00. This is your chance to come by and see all of the courses and programs that Garner has to offer before we begin registration. This is a drop-in event.

Attention Sophomores: This Wednesday and Thursday is the Personal Project Product Showcase! We are excited to see what products you all have created! You all have worked very hard on this project this year, and now it is time to show everyone your talents and efforts! Remember to dress for success and do your best!

Remember that tryouts for Spring sports begin next Wednesday, February 14. Make sure that you have all of your paperwork completed and submitted in the Dragonfly program in order to be eligible to try out. If you have questions, please see the athletics page on the GMHS website.

We continue to have trouble with students being dropped off in the carpool line before the designated drop-off point. We will begin putting students in ISS who do not exit the cars in the appropriate spots.

First semester data is in and we have noted that attendance remains the number one indicator of student success. Please do your best to help us ensure that each student is in each class, each day.

These are all of the announcements that I have for today. I look forward to seeing everyone at tomorrow night’s curriculum showcase. GO TROJANS!
