Monday Memo – Good evening Garner Nation; this is Principal Carter Hillman with a Monday Memo:

  • All information provided in this Memo is posted on the GMHS website under the “Principal’s Message.”
  • GMHS has created a “Student Video” to review GMHS expectations and support a better understanding for how our school will operate under Plan B.   This link can be found on the GMHS homepage by clicking on the Lime Green Banner at the top of the page.  We are asking all students and their families who are assigned to return to school to review this video prior to coming on campus for the first time.
  • Student interested in careers in IT are invited to attend a virtual Career Conversation tomorrow, Tuesday, February 9th at 12:00 noon. Students will hear from three employees at IBM and their path into an IT career. Go to the Career Services website to sign up and the Meet code will be emailed to you tomorrow. 
  • The ASVAB Exam will be given this Wednesday, February 10th at 7:30 AM for students in grades 11 and 12.  The test will be administered in the auxiliary gym.  Students must pass health screenings prior to entering the building through the auditorium entrance, masks must be worn at all times, and students must provide their own transportation.  The ASVAB is free and a requirement for students who are looking to join the military.  Students can sign-up on the GMHS website, go to the Students tab and look for Career Services.
  • Students who signed up for in-person, cohort rotation groups will be returning to school next Wednesday, February 17th, starting with Cohort 2 or Group B students.  Each group is assigned to attend school for a week on a three-week rotation.  If you have been assigned to Cohort 1 (A) or Cohort 3 (C) you will remain as a virtual learner until your rotation is assigned to attend school for the week.
  • Attention Juniors:  The state of North Carolina will give all juniors the ACT on Tuesday, February 23rd.  The ACT must be given in person to all student listed as 11th graders in PowerSchools.  Students will receive information, via email, in the coming weeks, such as room assignments, arrival times, procedures, etc.  Tuesday, February 23rd will an Asynchronous Day to have staff available to assist with testing and provide social distancing standards for all students.  Juniors who are scheduled to test will report to campus on ACT day.  Bus transportation will be provided as well as breakfast and lunch being served.  9th, 10th, and 12th graders DO NOT report to campus on that day.  Juniors, please be on the lookout for ACT emails in the next two weeks.
  • For those students who had an underclassman picture made, they are now in and can be picked up from the front office during office hours.
  • Attention Parents of bus riders:  WCPSS will provide transportation to eligible students who will be participating in in-person instruction beginning next week.  Before a student can ride the bus, a parent or guardian is required to complete and sign a Health Attestation Form.  GMHS is providing this information in advance to allow families time to complete this process prior to students returning to campus.  This link is posted on the WCPSS website under “Transportation” and on the GMHS website as well.  The direct link is: wcpss.net/busform.  Please contact GMHS should you have any questions.
