WFHS Weekly Message - Week of February 10th

 

Good evening, WFHS Students and Families,

This message contains a lot of information regarding upcoming testing, course registration for next year, and scholarships.

 

Testing News

 

Access Testing - All EL students will participate in Access testing February 10th-21st.  EL students will participate in 4 tests that include reading, writing, listening and speaking.  Attendance is critical during this testing window.  Please make sure your students are in attendance and on time (7:20am) for school.  

 

ACT - All 11th grade students will participate in the state mandated ACT on March 20th.  Please make sure that your 11th grade student is in attendance and on time (7:20am) for school on March 20.

 

PROM - This year’s prom is March 15th. Please click the link below for details on date, location, and ticket information.  We will also place this information on our school website.

Student Services Information

The Business Alliance is hosting our annual Pathways to Success Career Fair on Thursday Feb 20th during 1st and 2nd periods. 

What: Pathways to Success Career Fair
Why: This is a walk from table-to-table fair style that focuses on programs students can participate in without having to attend 4-year college. (ex trades, internships, Military, etc.) 
Who: 11th or 12th graders that don't know what they want to do after high school. Although any grade level is welcome.
When: Thursday, Feb 20th during 1st and 2nd periods
Where: Cafeteria and commons area

College and Career Promise Program

February 10: Enrollment Forms Available
April 1: Course Schedule Opens (view what and when classes are available)
April 11: Course Self-Registration Begins
April 17: Enrollment Forms Deadline (Summer)
May 4: Course Self-Registration Deadline (Summer)
May 19: First Day of Class (Summer)

What: College and Career Promise Program Information Sessions being held at WFHS
Why: To learn more about how CCP works at WTCC and at WFHS
Who: 9-12th grade students interested in take summer or fall classes at Wake Tech through CCP
WhenSession 1 - 2/12 from a WTCC rep Session 2 - 2/26 from a WFHS counselor (both during 2nd pd cougar paws)
Where: TBD

Scholarships

The SECU- People Helping People Scholarship is now active on the Scholarship calendar. The due date is 2/21. If students or parents are SECU members they may qualify for this $10,000 scholarship.

The Trentini scholarship is also now active. Students can find the application on the Trentini website. The due date is 2/28. This is one $30,000 scholarship and 5 $1000 scholarships for students attending 4 year college and 1 $1000 scholarship for students attending trade/2 year/community college.

 

Course Registration

This week the counselors will be starting course registration. (2/11-3/13)

Current 11th graders need to sign up for their own registration meeting with their counselor. STUDENTS must schedule their appointment and must remember to attend their meeting. Students who do not schedule this appointment will have their schedules chosen for them. 

Current 9th and 10th graders will be met with by a counselor during their 4th period class. The calendar listing the 4th period teacher schedule is posted here

PRIOR to a student's registration meeting they must have their course selection sheet filled out. Students can find their course selection sheet by grade level here. Students should also watch their grade level video to assist in their selections.

PTSA
