Principal's Weekly Message, 10-31-24

Greetings LRMS Families,

Quarter 1 is complete!  Tomorrow, 11/1 is a Teacher Workday.  Here's a glance at what's ahead:

 

1.  Next week is a four-day week for students.  Tuesday, November 5th is a Teacher Workday.

 

 

2.  Events Next Week:

  • Monday, 11/4, 3pm - Orchestra Club
  • Monday, 11/4, 5:10pm - Winter Sports Parent Meeting (in the gym)
  • Tuesday, 11/5 - Teacher Workday
  • Wednesday, 11/6, 4pm - Football HOME, vs. East Millbrook (last game of season!)
  • Thursday, 11/7, 3pm - Environmental Club
  • Thursday, 11/7, 4pm - Girls Soccer and Volleyball HOME, vs. East Millbrook (last games of fall season!)
  • Friday, 11/8 - Quarter 1 Report Cards go home

 

 

3.  Here are three notes from the LRMS Media Center:

  • Book Fair: The LRMS Bedford Falls Book Fair is coming soon! It will run from Friday November 15th - Friday November 22nd. Setup a kidCredit account, it's a safe, easy, cashless way for your child to purchase books at the book fair. Many volunteers are needed to make this book fair a success. If you are able to help and are a registered volunteer, please sign up here
  • Donate Books: Got Books? Cleaning out the shelves and closets? Kids have outgrown the books at your house? Send in your gently used middle-school appropriate books anytime throughout the year to fuel our Spring Book Swap. Students can bring donations to the Media Center. Families can leave donations at the Front Desk. Questions? Contact Ms. Bussell at ebussell@wcpss.net
  • Tutoring Option - Does your student stress about homework? Need extra help with a subject? Want feedback on a writing assignment before turning it in? Wake County Public Libraries provides FREE access to tutor.com for anyone with a WCPL library card. Check it out for on-demand tutoring from 10am-10pm EST, and 24/7 homework help in more than 250 subjects! Services are offered in English and Spanish. Parents can sign their students up for a WCPL library card online

 

4.  For 8th grade families:

  • Congrats to T-shirt designer winner - Alyssa Longo!!!!!  Information about 8th grade T-shirts will be coming soon!
  • Washington DC trip 2nd payment of $90.00 is due Friday, 11/15.
  • Below is a QR Code and website for any who can contribute donations for the 8th Grade DC Field Trip.  Thanks in advance to anyone who can support our students in need!
     
     

 

 

 

5.  Message below from Student Services and Student Council about our Thanksgiving Food Drive:

 

Dear Leesville Community,
 
We are pleased to announce that the LRMS Student Council and Student Services Team will be hosting our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive from Monday, November 4th through Friday, November 15th.

Our goal is to support over 20 families in need within our community, and we greatly appreciate your assistance in achieving this aim. Each week, the Student Council will track the number of items donated by each team using our StuCo Feast-O-Meter displayed in the cafeteria. The team that donates the most items will receive a prize and will earn the right to display the StuCo Golden Lions Trophy for the month of December.
 
Below is the list of requested items: 
 
Canned or jarred gravy
Instant mashed potatoes 
Boxed Stuffing 
Corn muffin mix
Canned Cranberry sauce 
Canned sweet potatoes or yams 
Canned green beans
Canned Corn
Canned Carrots
Jugs of juice (Hawaiian punch/apple juice)
Jugs of sweet tea
Cake mix or brownie mix
Frosting
 
**Food Lion gift cards for turkeys & pies (please include the receipt with the card). Every dollar donated on the card will count as an item towards the team’s total for the week on the StuCo Thanksgiving Feast-O-Meter)

6.  PTSA Updates:

 

Book Fair is coming!

The Book Fair will be at LRMS 11/15 - 11/22 this year and we need your help to make it a successful event.

If you can volunteer to help with set-up or book sales, please sign up here.

 

 

Fundraising Results

While we missed our goal of $20k, we still raised a substantial amount for our school - totaling $16,192. The winning homerooms that will receive a pizza part are:

6th - McNamara
7th - Simmons
8th - Herzing

LRHS sponsors dance clinic

Looking for a fun activity for your child on the Nov. 5 workday? The LRHS dance team and dance ensemble are hosting a dance clinic from 9:00-12:30 with a parent showcase at 12:00. See QR code below to register.  All proceeds benefit the LRHS dance program.
