Principal's Weekly Message, 8-30-24
LRMS Families,
It has been a great first week of school at the 'Ville! I hope that your students are enjoying their classes and getting back into the rhythm of the school year.
Here are your weekly updates:
1. Next week is a four-day week of school. Monday is the Labor Day Holiday.
2. Events next week:
- Tuesday, 9/3 - Fall Sports Tryouts begin
- Wednesday, 9/4, 3:15pm - First Art Portfolio Club
- Thursday, 9/5, 6pm - Band Parent Information Meeting (in the band room)
3. Fall Sports tryouts begin on Tuesday, September 3 right after the school day. Eligible seventh and eighth graders can try out for volleyball, football, cheerleading and girls soccer. Families should have completed all necessary forms in the District's Dragonfly platform. If you have questions, please reach out to our Athletic Director, Bruce Close at bclose@wcpss.net.
4. All families must fill out the District's form, Student Device Program Agreement. This form has gone home in most homeroom classes, but we understand that some families may not have received it. Please sign and return it to your student's homeroom teacher ASAP. This form must be completed for your student to continue using a Wake County Chromebook.
5. Transportation Updates:
- Thanks to everyone for mastering our carpool procedures AM and PM. Our morning carpool is efficient enough that there is virtually no line at the start of the instructional day. This is important as we begin to implement our unexcused tardy policy next week. In the afternoons, we are down to about 25 minutes of traffic after the bell. Please encourage your students to watch the road for your arrival so they can get to your vehicles promptly and keep the traffic moving.
- We apologize for some of the bus-related headaches this past week. We have two or three bus routes that are considered "double-backs." Specifically, routes 3, 4 and 6 are going to be our latest departing buses in the afternoons until more drivers become available. In our daily inquiries with the transportation department, we've been told that the wait times should diminish slightly next week. Be sure to follow bus updates and track specific routes with Here Comes the Bus.
6. For our 8th grade families, mark the calendar for a PTSA Goodberry's Spirit Night NEXT Monday, 9/9. This will be the first of a few fundraising events this year as the eighth graders try to save up for all to go to Washington DC in the spring.
7. PTSA Updates:
Have a great three-day weekend!
