Principal's Weekly Message, 5-24-24

Greetings LRMS Families,

I hope you're enjoying the final weeks of the school year.  Testing begins this week...

 

 

1.  Next week is a four-day week for students.  Monday is the Memorial Day Holiday.

 

 

2.  Events next week:

  • Wednesday, 5/29, 3:15pm - Art Portfolio Club
  • Wednesday, 5/29, 6-8pm - End-of-Year PTSA Volunteer Celebration/Meeting at Chow 
  • Thursday, 5/30 - Eighth Grade Science EOG
  • Friday, 5/31 - Science EOG Make-ups

 

 

3.   Our office team and I are actively planning for the 2024-25 school year.  Our ability to hire staff is based on the number of students enrolled for next year.  This is where you come in.  If your rising 7th or 8th grader is currently enrolled but no longer planning to attend Leesville Middle next school year, please notify our data manager, Mrs. Crawford (bacrawford@wcpss.net).  We are trying to ensure we have accurate enrollment numbers as we plan staffing and master scheduling.  Thanks in advance. 

 
4.  Attention: Parents of rising 7th Graders!  Your child will need more vaccines.  NC Law now requires Tdap and Meningococcal vaccine for entry into 7th grade.  You will need to bring a copy of your student record to the office before school starts in August.  More information is posted on our website.  
 

 

 

5.  Reminder - Students in Grades 6th through 8th will take the EOG/ EOC State Test at the end of this school year. The EOG/C testing window begins May 30th and continues until the end of the year. The main testing days are scheduled as follows:

 

  • Thursday May 30th → 8th Grade Science

  • Tuesday June 4th → 6th Math/7th ELA

  • Wednesday June 5th → 8th Math/Math 1 /6th ELA

  • Thursday June 6th → 7th Math/8th ELA

 

Should your child meet the criteria for our EOG/EOC Remediation and Readministration program you will receive an invitation for your child to attend the program after the EOG/ EOC testing window closes for our school on June 10th.  For your planning purposes, the re-testing dates for the end of the school year are: June 13th and June 14th (Teacher Workdays).  Please be aware this is an opt-in program and participation is completely voluntary. Transportation for base students will be provided, and breakfast and lunch will be available.

 

 

 

6.  LRHS Pride Athletic Club (PAC) is hosting summer camps this year! Here is the flyer with the link and QR code for the camps.

  • Wednesday June 12 - 8th Grade Awards and Promotion Ceremony, 9-10:30am
  • Wednesday June 12 - Last day of school

 

 

PTSA General Membership Meeting + Volunteer THANK YOU at Chow on Wednesday, May 29th 

Mr. Cox and the PTSA Board invites all PTSA members and LRMS volunteers to join us for an end-of-the-year celebration and meeting at Chow on Wednesday, May 29th from 6pm-8pm. Starting at ~6:30pm, we will hold our final PTSA meeting, vote on the end-of-the-year budget as well as next year's PTSA board. Interested in joining the PTSA board, please come to Chow and learn more about open positions. This family-friendly event features snacks and refreshments. 
 
 
 

Join the 2024-2025 LRMS PTSA Board

The LRMS PTSA is seeking new Board Members for the 2024-2025 school year! The following positions are currently open: 

  • VP of Academics (Honor Roll & Character Breakfasts; Book Fair; Student Support, etc)
  • VP of Activities (Dances, Socials, Carnivals, Clubs, etc)
  • VP of Hospitality (Appreciation Days/Weeks; Staff Workday Meals & Monthly Treats, etc)

Being a Board Member does not mean you do everything listed under your position all by yourself! We work together to recruit volunteers to coordinate events and carry out duties. PTSA Board Members do make sure all responsibilities are being handled, and meet monthly in-person for updates, requests, etc.
