Principal's Weekly Message, 9-15-23

Greetings LRMS Families,

Well after three weeks, we've had a Code Yellow Lockdown, a no-Internet day and a "Hurricane" Day! Thanks to all of you for your flexibility as we try to find a productive rhythm at the start of this 2023-24 school year.

Here are your weekly updates:

1. Next week is a five-day week for students.

3. We welcome all LRMS parents/caregivers to Leesville Road Middle's Open House next Thursday evening. Here is the schedule:

5:30pm - Welcome and General PTSA Meeting (in the gym)

6:15-7:18 - Classroom Visits (see below)

7:30 - Optional AIG/Advanced Learning Meeting (Media Center)

A few more details:

Parents/caregivers will be provided a hard copy of their student's schedule in the first rotation. It is important to be present in the first rotation by 6:15pm!
- 6th/7th grade families need to know their student's Core 1 Teacher
- 8th grade families need to know their student's Elective 1 Teacher
We have invited multiple food trucks for this event, but not all have given a firm commitment.
The PTSA and several sponsors will be set up in the cafeteria area after the conclusion of the 5:30pm general meeting.

4. The Leesville Community recognizes National Hispanic Heritage Month, which is observed in the United States from September 15 to October 15 to recognize and celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. 5. PTSA Updates:

Welcome to the September 13th edition ofthe PTSA newsletter

We're in the 3rd week back now. I hope everyone is getting in the groove of schedules, packing lunches, and homework, as well as enjoying the slow approach of Fall with some cooler temperatures this week.

We hope to see you all at the LRMS Open House and General PTSA Meeting -- next Thursday September 21st, starting at 5:30pm. You'll get the chance to hear from Principal Cox and the PTSA, buy or pick-up your pre-ordered Spiritwear, tour your kid's schedule through their classrooms, and meet their teachers. There will also be food trucks on-site to give you a chance to grab something to eat while you're there and, if you donate that night to our Fall Giving Campaign, you will be entered in a drawing to win LRMS Spiritwear!

This is an event geared towards parents and guardians, so, if you do need to bring your children, please keep them with you at all times.

Skip the Spiritwear lines at Open House!

Pre-order your Spirtwear starting Friday September 15th!

The pre-order sale ends at 11:59pm on Wednesday September 20th and then you can pick-up your items during the Open House on Thursday September 21st. Just look for the Pre-order Pick-up sign. If you can't attend the event, just indicate your student's homeroom teacher (1st period) during checkout and your order will be sent home with your student the following week.

We will also be selling in-person at Open House, including a cash-only line for these specific items -- agendas, magnets, tumblers, and umbrellas. Our credit card line will be for everything in the store. We have been restocking our store with the 2023/2024 designs and all the sizes, as well as bringing back some favorite designs!

Take a look -- the LRMS School Store is open 24/7 -- and then get ready to pre-order online this Friday.

Help sell Spiritwear at Open House

We are still looking for more volunteers to keep our Spiritwear lines as short at possible at Open House on Thursday September 21st. If you can help support our school in this way, sign-up here. Thanks so much!

Annual courtyard clean-up and bird seed drive

We need 15-20 students, parents, and staff to volunteer to help us clean-up our courtyard on Monday September 18th from 3:15-4:30pm. We also need bird seed donations to keep our feeders full throughout the year.If you would like to help out, fill our this Google Docs form here or contact Ms. Evelyn Bussell, if you haver any questions.

There will be lots of volunteer opportunities throughout the school year. But, if you're new to the school, you first need to become an approved volunteer in order to help out.
