Principal's Weekly Message, 8-18-23

Greetings LRMS Families!

I hope summer is treating you well.  We are excited to begin seeing your students this Thursday on-campus.  Details are below.  The first official day of school is Monday, August 28. (WCPSS Traditional Calendar)

Below are your Weekly Updates.  Remember, you can adjust the settings for school emails/texts here.

1.  Thursday, August 24 is our "Day for Visitors."  Here are the options:

  • Sixth Graders are encouraged to attend LIONS Camp Thursday morning.  Arrivals and meet/greet with teachers is from 8:30-9am.  Students will remain "on-team" for activities with our staff.  Please encourage your child to wear comfortable clothing (including sneakers or tennis shoes) and to bring a water bottle as they will be participating in a PE rotation in the gym.  Parents are invited to an information meeting with school leaders and the PTSA at 9:15 in the cafeteria.  Families can also retrieve student Chromebooks at this time.  For registration and more details, click here.
  • Seventh and Eighth Graders are encouraged to drop for "Walk-the-Schedule" between 1:30-3:30pm Thursday afternoon.  This is an informal event where families can meet teachers, purchase spiritwear, and join the PTSA.

2.  All student team assignments were sent out via email last week.  You can also view your student's schedule in Power School.  Here is the link to sign-in or create a Parent Portal account.  Our counselors return next week and will be working through any remaining schedule issues.  I've included contact information below:

*One note about schedules - some classes do not yet have teacher names listed.  We are pleased to share that our team has hired all necessary classroom teachers for the school year.  Some are still being processed through HR or have not yet populated into Power School.  The only remaining vacancy at LRMS is an Instructional Assistant position in Special Programs.  If you are interested or have questions, please email me directly.

3.  WCPSS has indicated that bus routes will be released today.  You should receive an email if your student is registered for a bus.  To view LRMS bus routes, you can visit here.

Please note some of the late arrival and departure times.  We will not be sending mass text updates this year when buses do not run.  Please bookmark the WCPSS Bus Updates Page.  My family checks this page every morning to determine the status of my children's bus route.  This will yield the most up-to-date information every school day for bus riders.

4.  If you missed our opening letter with relevant dates and information, you can find it here.

5.  Here's one more call for 7th grade families to ensure that the State's required vaccinations for your child have been obtained.  Here's the link with the list of requirements.  If you have questions, please contact our data manager at

6.  Here are your PTSA Updates:
