Principal's Weekly Message, 6-2-23
Greetings LRMS Families,
Welcome to June and the final week of the school year! Here are some updates/reminders:
1. The final week of the school year is a five-day week for students. (And yes, daily attendance is encouraged. I'll link the policy here again in case you need it.)
2. Remaining Events:
- June 5-7 - Make-up EOG Testing
- Wednesday, June 7 - 8th Grade Carnival (afternoon)
- Thursday, June 8, 8:30am - Eighth Grade Celebration Ceremony (in the gym)
- Friday, June 9 (last day!) - 6th and 7th Grade Awards Ceremonies (in the gym)
- Adventurers - 8:30am
- Discoverers - 9:30am
- Navigators - 10:45am
- Voyagers - 11:45am
- June 12, 13 - Teacher Workdays with EOG Remediation/Re-Testing
3. EOG Scores will be made available soon. Here's the District Message on how to access your student's scores in a couple weeks.
Families of students who qualify for re-testing will be individually notified by a core teacher. Parents of these students should fill out the Google Form to be provided and indicate whether their student(s) will participate in the remediation/re-testing on June 12 and/or 13.
4. Here are some reminders regarding grade level assemblies later next week:
- Parents/guests should park in the remaining spots in the middle school lot and enter the school at the breezeway by the cafeteria/gym. Guests will only have access to the gym area and not the rest of the campus.
- Due to our gym capacity, up to two guests are permitted per student for the 8th grade Celebration on Thursday. Eighth grade families will receive another email with reminders next week.
- There is no limit on guests for the other grade level assemblies on Friday.
- If you are choosing to sign your student out at the conclusion of his/her assembly, there will be a process that will occur either in the gym or the cafeteria depending on the timing of each assembly.
5. Here is a note from Ms. Bussell in the Media Center about Student Devices for the end of the year:
- WCPSS requires students in 8th grade to return their assigned Chromebook at the end of the school year. The device and charger must be turned in on the student's ELA class scheduled day. Students who do not return their device will not be eligible for a new device upon the start of 9th grade.
- Herzing ELA classes - Friday, June 2nd
- Ronco ELA classes - Monday, June 5th
- Roberts ELA classes - Tuesday, June 6th
- Students withdrawing from WCPSS must return all WCPSS-issued devices to their school on or before their last day.
- Assigned day-use devices (6th & 7th grades) will be collected on Wednesday, June 7th.
- All other students will keep their assigned devices through the summer to use next school year. If a rising 7th or 8th grader will be transferring to another WCPSS school, they will take their device with them.
6. Our office team and I are actively planning for the 2023-24 school year. Our ability to hire staff is based on the number of students enrolled for next year. This is where you come in. If your rising 7th or 8th grader is currently enrolled but no longer planning to attend Leesville Middle next school year, please notify our data manager, Ms. Crawford (bacrawford@wcpss.net). We are trying to ensure we have accurate enrollment numbers as we plan staffing and master scheduling. Thanks in advance.
