    Good Afternoon EM3 Families,

We hope that you have all enjoyed this amazing fall weekend. We are looking forward to seeing students again tomorrow. Thank you to all the families who have worked to partner with EM3 to ensure student engagement during the first three weeks of school this year.

Assigned Work - Teachers are assigning work through Google Classroom each day. Be sure to review the work that your child is submitting. In some cases teachers are finding that students are submitting blank assignments rather than completed assignments. Work that students submit to their teachers is accessible to families and you are able to see what your child is turning in each day. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher.

Interim Reports - Interims grades will be ready for review in Powerschools this Friday. It is hard to believe that we are half way through the first quarter, but due to the orientation time, we have moved quickly through the first quarter. In addition to your ability to review grades in powerschool, we will be mailing home notices if students are failing any courses as of Friday. Please contact Pam Yancey if you need any support with logging in to Powerschools.

Tune-Up Tuesday - Our next Tune-Up Tuesday will be next week 9-29-2020 at 6:30 PM. We are accepting ideas on what would be most helpful to families during this time. If you would like to make a recommendation, please submit it using this LINK.

Hispanic Heritage Month - We are celebrating and honoring creativity, culture and artistry September 15 - October 15 which is Hispanic Heritage Month. We have assembled a collection of art, stories, poetry, music, theatre and dance to honor Hispanic artists and art forms. Please explore this site and join us for this digital celebration.

Curbside Media Center - Hello EM3 Families, Students can login to their Destiny Discover page to put books from the library on hold and fill out the EM3 Curbside Library Book Request Form. On the request form, you will let Mrs. Massonette know when you want to pick up your library book. The request form also includes instruction videos for how to put a book on hold, how to see what books have been checked out to you, as well as where you will pick up and return your library books. The EM3 Curbside Library Book Request Form can be found on the EM3 School Library Website as well as the Destiny Discover page under learning links. Keep Reading EM3!

Dreambox - All students in grades 6, 7, and 8 should be working to complete 6 - 8 lessons in Dreambox each week. The measure of student progress is made by lessons completed, not correct responses. Please see the parent portal for your child’s progress. We will be recognizing students for their growth, progress, and perseverance as they work through Dreambox lessons.

    Parent Dashboard Letter English

    Parent Dashboard Letter Spanish

Lexia - Students should be working to complete 90 - 100 minutes of time in the Lexia program each week. Like Dreambox, Lexia provides your child’s teacher with valuable information about their strengths as well as areas of need. Teachers use this information to guide whole group and small group instructional decisions.

Contacting Teachers - If your child is struggling to login to a live google meet for instruction, please have them email the teacher whose class they are trying to login to. If you need immediate support, assistance, or need questions answered - please contact Ms. Bailey or Ms. Deans at 919-850-8755.

    East Millbrook Families and Community,

It is our sincerest hope that this message finds each of you safe and well. We will continue to be here for every family, each day. We appreciate those students and families who have reached out via email, GoogleClassroom, Remind, phone calls, texts messages etc. If we can be of any support to anyone - please let us know.

Final Grades - Friday was the final day for students to turn in work for assignments that were provided prior to March 13th. Teachers are ensuring that grades are updated and finalized in Power Schools. Final grades will be posted by 5:00 PM on Friday, June 5th.

Below are three examples of comments that apply to final student grades.

    1. If your child was passing a course prior to March 16th - the following comment will apply to their passing grade of PC-19:

“Prior to school closing on March 16 due to COVID19, Your Child was meeting grade level expectations insert course name with at least a 60% average.  This meets the district’s requirements for receiving a PC-19.”

    1. If your child was not passing a course prior to March 16th but worked throughout remote learning to complete and/or make-up assignments in order to bring up averages, the following comment will apply to their passing grade of PC-19:

“Prior to school closing on March 16 due to COVID19, Your Child was not meeting grade level expectations for the 3rd quarter insert course name. However, they have been participating in remote learning during this time and completing assignments. This has helped to improve their overall standing and as a result he/she will receive a PC-19 for their final course grade.”

    1. If your child was not passing a course prior to March 16th and did not engage in any opportunities during remote learning to increase their overall grade, they will receive a withdrawal mark of WC-19.

“Prior to school closing on March 16 due to COVID19, Student Name was not meeting grade level expectations in insert course name with at least a 60% average. In addition, he/she did not participate in remote learning which could’ve helped to improve their final course grade to a PC-19. Although contact was made with the student/family to help them engage in remote learning, the student still chose not to complete any assignments.”

The schedule for locker-clean out was mailed out last week. Families may come in during the days/time that correlate with their last names.

Locker Combinations - If your child does not recall their locker combination - please have them reach out to their homeroom teacher BEFORE arriving on campus this week. We will have locker combination lists printed, but that will delay the process of getting in and out of the buildings as quickly as possible.

Limited Access to Building - As shared in the message - only the student and/or ONE adult will be permitted access to their lockers.

Check Student Email - Each EM3 student has a WCPSS student email account. Be sure to have your child check this email account daily to receive important updates and information.

Instrument Returns/Uniform Returns/Book Returns - For students and families who need to return items to EM3 such as instruments, uniforms, etc. We will have stations for drop off when families are on campus June 3rd, 4th, and 5th. We will also have additional days/times set up for instrument return at EM3.

We look forward to seeing many of you this week. Stay safe today and every day.

    Yours,

    Aaron Marcin, Lead Learner/Principal

Dreambox and PowerUp - Don’t forget to ensure that your child is participating in and completing lessons in Dreambox and PowerUp each day. We will begin recognizing students making growth in the coming weeks!

Students of the Week - Congratulations to each of you!

8th Grade Designers - Marina S. is a student to be treasured, she is very attentive in class and always ready to engage in class discussions and offer her understanding of the material. She comes to class prepared and always asks questions so that she has a better understanding of the classwork and comes to school prepared when she has been absent. Congratulations Marina S. – you are a model student!

7th Grade Composers - Citlali has been working very hard in our classes. She has been very active during this digital semester by asking questions and even helping other students.

6th Grade Designers - Malvin has been and continues to be the model online learner. Malvin is consistently online everyday (1) completing his assignments, (2) emailing his teachers, (3) attending office hours, and (4) doing whatever he needs to stay on top of all of his online student responsibilities. The Designers Team couldn't ask for a better model of what is expected of all of the students in the 6th grade! Excellent work, Malvin!

CTE - Tochukwu is always focused on her work and calm even when distractions are happening around her. I am recognizing her for being a calming, focused presence for others, helping others to stay on task and supporting them in their work.

    Yours,

    Aaron Marcin, Lead Learner/Principal

  • Principal's Weekly Message

Posted by Arlene Caves on 4/26/2020

    Good Afternoon EM3 Families!

We hope that this message finds everyone safe, healthy and preparing for another week of remote learning.

Below are many pieces of information that need to be shared. We appreciate you taking the time to read through all this information.

Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer Program (P-EBT):

This information is being shared with families today:

North Carolina approved the distribution of additional resources to families receiving free or reduced-price lunch. The additional benefits will be through the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer Program (P-EBT) to help families buy food during the COVID-19 school closure. Learn more about the P-EBT program on the NC DHHS website. If families contact you with questions about this, please direct them to NC DHHS and notify your school social worker.

Applying for federal free or reduced price school meals:

We realize that many families’ economic and employment situations have changed during this pandemic. Families can apply at any time for free or reduced price lunch, which may also qualify them for other state and federal benefits. www.wcpss.net/meals

    PTSA News

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4-8.   The PTSA is putting together a thank you movie to share with them, so we need your help!  Please upload a message or a picture using this link.   Thanks so much for you help!

Be sure to visit our website, like us on Facebook or send us an email: emmms.ptsa@gmail.com if you have any questions or want to be more involved.  We are still looking for parents to join our board!

Device Check-Out Expectation - if your family checked out a device for your EM3 student. The student is expected to engage in learning each week, complete Dreambox lessons, and PowerUp lessons. If there is a lack of engagement and your family checked out a device - we will come and pick the device up and return it to EM3. These expectations were provided to every student during Check-Out on Friday and Saturday.

Remote Learning Expectations - Thank you to EVERYONE who has worked to ensure that students are engaged in learning experiences. It is important that students complete assigned tasks and turn in work to teachers. Teachers are providing feedback to students on the work that they are doing.

Our Daily Schedule for Remote Learning has left room for each student to engage in learning outside of the prepared lessons and materials found in GoogleClassroom, etc.

It is our expectation that students engage in at least 20 minutes daily of both DreamBox and PowerUp. This would equate to at least 100 minutes of each of these digital learning tools weekly.

Monitoring Student Engagement - We will be tracking student engagement (activity in Google classroom, assignments completed and turned in, Dreambox, PowerUp, etc) and communicating with families when we see an absence or lack of sufficient engagement by a student during each week of remote learning.

Updated Powerschool Information - Our amazing staff have been working to ensure that they are sharing updated contact information (phone numbers/emails) with our Data Manger Ms. Yancey. If you know another EM3 family who is not receiving email or text updates each Sunday - please have them email tmarcin@wcpss.net or pyancey@wcpss.net to have their information updated.
