    Good Afternoon East Millbrook Families,

We hope that this message finds you well the extended weekend. We hope that everyone was able to reflect and give gratitude on this Martin Luther King day of remembrance.

Congratulations to all of our student athletes, and performers who participated in games, exhibitions and other events last week! It was an honor and a pleasure to see the efforts of our students pay off and shine in front of our school community.

Students must have a current physical on file, register online (if you have not done so previously) and meet all eligibility requirements.

See Coach Baker with any questions and/or concerns

We are having our 2nd Family and Community Engagement Night on Tuesday, February 11th from 5:00 to 7:30.

    During this time we will have all of the following scheduled for all families;

    -Student-Led Conferences

    -Family Art Activity, and

    -Gallery Walk.

    -Dinner will be served.

Please RSVP no later than February 4th (See the attached Flier) Contact Mr. Lindsey if you have any questions.

Families please remind your child that all personal electronic devices should be kept in bookbags/lockers during the instructional day. Each time students receive messages/notifications it distracts them from the task of learning and effectively participating in collaborative and critical thinking tasks designed throughout each class period. We thank all the families who have worked in alignment with EM3 to keep personal electronic devices out of classrooms during the instructional school day.

The student services team is excited to announce that we will be holding our first Parent Academy Session on the topic of Social Media.  During this presentation we will cover:

    * Which applications middle schoolers are currently using and their functions.

    * The affects social media can have on your child’s mental health.

    * How to create boundaries for social media use.

    * Consequences to misusing social media.

This presentation will take place on Thursday, January 30th from 7:45-9:00am in the Media Center.  Refreshments will be served. Please RSVP to Ms. Edgecombe, eedgecombe@wcpss.net no later than January 28th.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact your student’s grade level counselor.

We want to remind families that ALL students have access to Dreambox Learning. Dreambox Learning is a digital resource that is designed to provide every student personalized practice and reinforcement personalized to their specific learning level.

Dreambox is accessible through each child’s wakeid portal. If you have any questions about how to support your child with Dreambox Learning, please reach out to their math teacher or our 6th grade instructional coach, Ms. Herb (kherb@wcpss.net).

Students who access Dreambox Learning at least 45 minutes per week are proven to meet and/or exceed the expected growth target in the area of math each year. The more that students work to practice math at their learning level, the more growth and progress they make toward mastery of all grade level standards (below, at, or above grade level).

    Happy Sunday East Millbrook Families,

We hope that everyone has had a nice winter break and we are so looking forward to seeing one another back at East Millbrook tomorrow!

As the weather is cool, please remind your child to dress warmly. It is especially cool in the mornings when students are arriving to school, and during our morning transitions from building to building.

Our Boys and Girls Basketball teams will be playing this week. On Tuesday, January 7th - our teams will play at West Millbrook. On Thursday, January 9th - our teams will play at home as we compete against Carroll Middle School.

East Millbrook Dance will also be showcasing students Thursday evening at 7:00 PM for a Dance Concert in the Auditorium.

Please check to be sure that your child’s field trip forms have all been turned in. Payment can be made after field trip forms have been turned in - but WCPSS requires that we have all field trip forms collected for review 30 days prior to the field trip.

First semester will be coming to an end soon. If you have any questions about your child’s academic performance, please check in with their team soon.

For second semester at EM3, we will be adding a few classes that were not previously offered for 7th and 8th grade students. Our counselors Mr. Smith (7th grade) and Ms. Risalvato (8th grade) will be working to get schedules finalized over the next few weeks. Please note that anything in Powerschools for second semester is not finalized, and is subject to change.

We are excited to see all our students back tomorrow and to support them through another week of learning and engagement.

Please let us know if we can support your family in any way!

    Mr. Marcin

    Good Afternoon East Millbrook Families,

We hope that this message finds each of you well and warm this chilly weekend.

Congratulations to all of our student athletes, artists, and performers who participated in games, concerts and other events last week! It was an honor and a pleasure to see the efforts of our students pay off and shine in front of our school community.

Students should have brought their interims home this past week. If you did not receive one for your child, please contact their homeroom (first period) teacher to ensure that you receive a copy.

The staff at EM3 would like to thank all members of our school community who have worked to donate items to the PTSA for teacher appreciation this week. We are excited to see our teachers be provided ‘treats’ for all they do for our children every day.

Students in grades 6, 7, and 8 will have the opportunity to see in-school concerts this week as our student performers continue to show off their gifts and talents to the student body.

Families, please remember that Friday is a weather make-up day and that we will have a regular school week. Friday will be our last school day of 2019.

Following the Winter Break we will look forward to welcoming everyone back to EM3 on Monday, January 6th.

Carpool families please use the front entrance to the school to drop off and pick up your child each day. The back parking lot/loop near the 8th grade building is for buses only.

Congratulations to Mr. Doug Jones - our 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year! We were all excited to recognize Doug on Friday after school with his family present to be a part of the recognition.

We also want to recognize all of our finalists who include; Tiffany Robinson, Joey Muholland, Jennifer Rifkin, Branden Sorace, and Michael Ferguson.

Our PTSA appreciates everyone who participated in the Drive 4 Your School event this Saturday and helped to raise funds. You are all much appreciated by the PTSA.

Our PBIS team appreciates the support that everyone provided for Cougar Day on Friday. We also appreciate our PBIS team for organizing this event for students.

The Academy/EM3 School Improvement Team will meet Monday at 2:45 PM in the Media Center. Any families who are interested are invited to attend.

If your child is an afternoon carpool rider, please help us to communicate the importance of them being in the carpool dismissal area as soon as possible. We dismiss carpool first thing each day and in order for families to not wait in line for too long each afternoon, students need to be ready to load cars as quickly as possible.

If your child is not present in carpool when we are dismissing, we may have you park and wait for your child.

    Yours,

    Aaron Marcin, Principal
