    Good Afternoon EM3 Families,

Happy December 13th East Millbrook Families. We hope that you are all doing well and that your weekend has been safe and healthy. We appreciate everyone in our school community who continues to Wear a Mask, Wait six feet apart, and Wash their hands. Continued participation in the three W’s ensures that our entire community remains as healthy as possible.

As we prepare to welcome back our Cohort 1/A students in person tomorrow, please remember to dress appropriately for the weather. All students who are not in Cohort 1/A should plan to log in to google meets and participate from home.

School Board Information - The WCPSS Board of Education will be meeting for a special session tomorrow, December 13th. They will hold a regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, December 14th. The topic of the meetings will be centered around the health metrics of our community and school operations.

Asynchronous Wednesday - This week our asynchronous day of instruction is Wednesday, December 16th. There will be no in-person or live google meets on Wednesday, December 16th.

Family Updates - As we prepare for the second semester, families who have chosen to participate in Virtual Academy for the second semester should have received confirmation letters. Thank you to everyone who completed the process for the second semester.

Daily Attendance - It is important for students to attend class every day whether they are in person, remote or virtual academy. Please remind your child of the importance of attendance and work completion. Quarter and semester grades are being given as usual, and not attending classes or completing work will likely have a negative impact on their classroom performance.

Dreambox Competition - Congratulations to the following students whose names were drawn as raffle winners this week. Each student who completed three Dreambox lessons was entered into the raffle. There was no limit to the number of entries that any student could have.

Our winner will choose from a wide variety of prizes that students can choose from.

    6th Grade Winners - Isaac C, Jamel W, London W.

    7th Grade Winners - Katherina R-V, Sundae B, Jalen T.

    8th Grade Winners - Jaelyn H, Citlali R-C, Clayan A.

Lexia Competition - Congratulations to the following students whose names were drawn as raffle winners this week. Each student who completed 30 minutes of Lexia was entered into the raffle. There was no limit to the number of entries that any student could have.

    6th Grade Winners - Malia O, Alexander F, Cristian F-S.

    7th Grade Winners - Eddie A, Tyrece H, Demari D.

    8th Grade Winners - Lancelot G-S, Messiah E, Zori O.

We will be reaching out to all our winners so that they can select and be presented their prizes. Congratulations!

Thank you all for your partnership so far this school year. We are so excited to see how much learning has been taking place. Being in classrooms, whether they be virtual or in-person is the greatest part of our day and we look forward to seeing everyone this week.

    Good Afternoon EM3 Families,

Good Sunday evening to all of our EM3 families. The cool December weather has been with us this weekend and we hope that you have all enjoyed some of this amazing outdoor weather.

As we prepare to welcome back our Cohort 3/C students in person tomorrow, please remember to dress appropriately for the weather. All students who are not in Cohort 3/C should plan to login to google meets and participate from home.

Asynchronous Friday - This week our asynchronous day of instruction is Friday, December 11th. There will be no in person or live google meets on Friday, December 11th.

Health/Safety Requirements - Students who are scheduled to return to campus cannot have a temperature of 100.4 or higher and must be feeling well. Students who have a temperature of 100.4 or higher cannot enter any buildings. Any students who do not feel well, will be escorted to a Care Center and must be picked up immediately. Please note, any child who is not feeling well, or exhibiting any symptoms of Covid-19 will be kept in the Care Center until someone is able to pick them up.

Daily Attendance - It is important for students to attend class every day whether they are in person, remote or virtual academy. Please remind your child of the importance of attendance and work completion. Quarter and semester grades are being given as usual, and not attending classes or completing work will likely have a negative impact on their classroom performance.

Dreambox Competition - We are holding a raffle for the next two weeks, students have provided us with the incentives that they would like to choose from. Each time a student completes 3 dreambox lessons in a week, their name will be entered into the raffle. Students should be completing 7 lessons a week, so a student who meets the expectations will have their name entered into the raffle at least two times.

We will be drawing three names from each grade level on Friday for the Dreambox raffle.

Lexia Competition - We are holding a similar raffle for Lexia over the next two weeks. Students will have their names entered each time they complete 30 minutes of Lexia each week. The expectation is that students complete 60 minutes a week. A student who is meeting the schoolwide expectation will have their name entered at least two times each week.

We will be drawing three names from each grade level for the Lexia raffle on Friday.

Thank you all for your partnership so far this school year. We are so excited to see how much learning has been taking place. Being in classrooms, whether they be virtual or in person is the greatest part of our day and we look forward to seeing everyone this week.

    All our Best,

    Good Afternoon EM3 Families,

We hope that you have all enjoyed a beautiful and historic weekend in our City, State, and Country. We are looking forward to a great week as we welcome back students who are in Cohort 3/C.

Cohort 3/C Families - The total number of students scheduled to be on campus tomorrow is 90. There will be 30 sixth graders, 33 seventh graders, and 27 eighth grade students. These families have been notified that they are on the return to campus list and in Cohort 3/C. If you have not been notified of this information via text, email, or teacher contact - your child should NOT return to campus tomorrow.

Students in cohort 3/C should plan to bring with them to school, a Face-Covering Mask, a water bottle, charged device and charger, ELA/Math Materials, and signed forms (Bus Document/Health Document and BYOD if bringing a personal device to school).

Students who are not scheduled to be on campus will have to return home immediately. In order for us to meet all state and local guidelines for the return to school buildings at the Middle School level, we cannot have any additional students on campus. Our current plans meet the requirements with the number of students we have scheduled to return.

There are no exceptions to these health protocols and we strongly encourage all Cohort 3/C families to ensure that their children are healthy and well before sending them to campus.

If your child is cohort 3/C - and riding the bus, please make sure that they have filled out the bus attestation form that has been sent out by the district and was also in last week’s message.

Students in Cohorts 1/A and 2/B will continue engaging in instruction from home. Students were notified last week of some schedule changes that are necessary due to staggered lunch times by grade level and other factors related to the return of some students to in person instruction.

For Students in 1/A and 2/B who are engaging from home this week, lessons will be asynchronous on Monday. Students will watch videos of their teacher and then work to complete independent assignments. This will allow our Plan B teachers the time necessary to teach school expectations, processes, and procedures to students on campus.

Wednesday is Veteran’s Day and there is NO SCHOOL on Wednesday.

Forms to be completed/turned in - There are three important forms that must be turned in for students who are returning to campus. We will be collecting these forms in homeroom classes when students return to campus.

    • Attestation Form (bus riders):  You are required to submit the attestation form stating that you and your child will abide by all health and safety protocols for bus ridership.  You can fill out the form online or complete a printed form. Printable forms can be found at wcpss.net/busform. Students are not permitted to ride the bus until this form has been submitted.

    • Accountability Form:  Families are required to sign the Student Accountability and Required Health Protocol form.  Please view this site for details around these expectations and another copy of the signature form: https://www.wcpss.net/studentaccountabilityThis form indicates students will comply with face covering, daily screenings, social distancing measures, student behavior and more.

Free Breakfast/Lunch for All - The WCPSS child nutrition services is offering free breakfast and lunch for all students for the 20-21 school year. There is no action necessary on your part. When students come through the cafeteria for breakfast/lunch they will be served at no cost.

If your child is enrolled in Virtual Academy or engaged in remote learning (off campus) please review the list of food distribution sites where your family can take advantage of this opportunity and pick up food off site. Food Distribution Sites

Medication Drop-Off: If your child is a Plan B student and you have medication to drop off at school, we are currently taking appointments to practice social distancing procedures.

Please contact our amazing receptionist, Ms. Letisha Bailey, at 919-850-8755 or lbailey@wcpss.net.  Please remember to turn in the 1702 form with the medication. Thank you for making an appointment before November 9, 2020.

    Good Afternoon EM3 Families,

We hope that you have all enjoyed this amazing fall weekend. We are looking forward to seeing students again tomorrow. Thank you to all the families who have worked to partner with EM3 to ensure student engagement during the first three weeks of school this year.

Assigned Work - Teachers are assigning work through Google Classroom each day. Be sure to review the work that your child is submitting. In some cases teachers are finding that students are submitting blank assignments rather than completed assignments. Work that students submit to their teachers is accessible to families and you are able to see what your child is turning in each day. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher.

Interim Reports - Interims grades will be ready for review in Powerschools this Friday. It is hard to believe that we are half way through the first quarter, but due to the orientation time, we have moved quickly through the first quarter. In addition to your ability to review grades in powerschool, we will be mailing home notices if students are failing any courses as of Friday. Please contact Pam Yancey if you need any support with logging in to Powerschools.

Tune-Up Tuesday - Our next Tune-Up Tuesday will be next week 9-29-2020 at 6:30 PM. We are accepting ideas on what would be most helpful to families during this time. If you would like to make a recommendation, please submit it using this LINK.

Hispanic Heritage Month - We are celebrating and honoring creativity, culture and artistry September 15 - October 15 which is Hispanic Heritage Month. We have assembled a collection of art, stories, poetry, music, theatre and dance to honor Hispanic artists and art forms. Please explore this site and join us for this digital celebration.

Curbside Media Center - Hello EM3 Families, Students can login to their Destiny Discover page to put books from the library on hold and fill out the EM3 Curbside Library Book Request Form. On the request form, you will let Mrs. Massonette know when you want to pick up your library book. The request form also includes instruction videos for how to put a book on hold, how to see what books have been checked out to you, as well as where you will pick up and return your library books. Dreambox - All students in grades 6, 7, and 8 should be working to complete 6 - 8 lessons in Dreambox each week. The measure of student progress is made by lessons completed, not correct responses. Please see the parent portal for your child’s progress. We will be recognizing students for their growth, progress, and perseverance as they work through Dreambox lessons.

    Parent Dashboard Letter English

    Parent Dashboard Letter Spanish

Lexia - Students should be working to complete 90 - 100 minutes of time in the Lexia program each week. Like Dreambox, Lexia provides your child’s teacher with valuable information about their strengths as well as areas of need. Teachers use this information to guide whole group and small group instructional decisions.

Contacting Teachers - If your child is struggling to login to a live google meet for instruction, please have them email the teacher whose class they are trying to login to. If you need immediate support, assistance, or need questions answered - please contact Ms. Bailey or Ms. Deans at 919-850-8755.

We are looking forward to seeing you all this week.

    Good Afternoon EM3 Families,

We hope that you have all enjoyed your holiday weekend. We are looking forward to seeing students again tomorrow. Thank you to all the families who have worked to partner with EM3 to ensure student engagement during the first three weeks of school this year.

We enjoyed our first “Tune-Up Tuesday” last week and enjoyed families engaging with us as we reviewed how to best support students in logging on and completing work within our virtual environments.

Our next Tune-Up Tuesday will be next week 9-15-2020 at 6:30 PM. We will be focusing our time that evening on how to access the tools found in Google Classroom, Google Sheets, Google Documents, etc. Thank you to those families who attended our first event and made recommendations on what we could offer moving forward.

Please ask your child(ren) about Dreambox and Lexia as we will be recognizing and delivering grab bag goodies to students who are completing the recommended number of lessons in each of these platforms each week. We wanted to wait until the district was able to get technology out to students before we started this process. If you want to access and monitor your child’s progress, contact their Math and ELA teachers for how to gain parent access to your child’s account.. You can also check the gradebook as a grade will be entered each week.

This last week we began mailing out individual student schedules, Virtual schedules by grade level, Powerschool access information for families, and other important information. Some of these were put in the mail last week and more will be sent out tomorrow afternoon. Keep an eye out for this information.

Technology that was requested by the district through the family survey is being distributed on a daily basis. If you requested technology for use by your child, please be sure to check your email and other messages from WCPSS.

Ms. Massonette is able to check on the status of your invitation to pick up technology if you feel that you have not received an invitation. You may contact Ms. Massonette at mmassonette@wcpss.net for more information.

We also enjoyed seeing families at our open houses last week. If you were not able to attend, please reach out to the grade level administrator for your child (Mr. Artis - 6th grade, Mr. Williams - 7th Grade, Ms. Nealy - 8th Grade) and they will send you a copy of the information that was presented.

Contacting Teachers, if your child is struggling to login to a live google meet for instruction, please have them email the teacher whose class they are trying to login to. If you need immediate support, assistance, or need questions answered - please contact Ms. Bailey or Ms. Deans at 919-850-8755.

We are looking forward to seeing you all this week.

    Good Afternoon EM3 Families,

We hope that this message finds each of you well! Our amazing staff continues to work diligently over the summer months to best prepare for a great start to the 2020-2021 school year on August 17th.

We are continuously working to develop the high expectations of teaching, learning and most importantly the support of students as we begin the year online. Our school based teams will be working this week to plan the 6th Grade Induction as well as the Orientation for 7th and 8th grade students and families as well.

Virtual Academy:  Thank you to all our families who have researched the Virtual Academy Option for the 2020-2021 school year. So far, 53% of our school population has elected to be a part of the exclusive Virtual Academy. If you were going to register, but have not yet done so, you have until 5:00 PM Wednesday to complete the registration.

The form is located here: WCPSS Virtual Academy Application

Question/Answer Session with Mr. Marcin:  The PTSA and Mr. Marcin are developing time to hold a Virtual EM3 Question/Answer session with families who have questions about the upcoming school year.  More information will be shared soon around the specifics.  Please submit your question on this form and a staff member will respond via email or through email: Q & A Form.

Message from Cafeteria:  It's that time of the year!   Time to renew your Child Meal Benefit Application for the 2020-2021 school year.   Please follow this link to the School Meals page on the EM3 web-site.  Additional information and links to the application can be found on this page.

Tdap & Meningococcal Vaccine - 7th Graders!:  In accordance with North Carolina State Law, all students attending public schools entering 7th grade are required to receive Tdap and Meningococcal vaccines.  Most medical providers in Wake County are seeing appointments for health assessments and immunizations.  Please take this time to make an appointment with your provider.  We will share submission procedures in future communications.

Guild Announcements – The Academy of Visual & Performing Arts teachers will be messaging students in the coming days regarding Guild placements for the 2020-2021 school year. Based on some changes to school re-opening, Virtual Academy, and some Powerschools issues we decided to delay these announcements to ensure accuracy.

School Opening Video - Please take a moment to watch this VIDEO regarding the opening of the 2020-2021 school year at East Millbrook Magnet Middle School.

We look forward to seeing everyone soon, and wish you all a fantastic week!

    Sincerely,

     T. Aaron Marcin
