    Good Afternoon Academy/EM3 Families!

Congratulations to Mr. Doug Jones - our 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year! We were all excited to recognize Doug on Friday after school with his family present to be a part of the recognition.

We also want to recognize all of our finalists who include; Tiffany Robinson, Joey Muholland, Jennifer Rifkin, Branden Sorace, and Michael Ferguson.

Our PTSA appreciates everyone who participated in the Drive 4 Your School event this Saturday and helped to raise funds. You are all much appreciated by the PTSA.

Our PBIS team appreciates the support that everyone provided for Cougar Day on Friday. We also appreciate our PBIS team for organizing this event for students.

The Academy/EM3 School Improvement Team will meet Monday at 2:45 PM in the Media Center. Any families who are interested are invited to attend.

If your child is an afternoon carpool rider, please help us to communicate the importance of them being in the carpool dismissal area as soon as possible. We dismiss carpool first thing each day and in order for families to not wait in line for too long each afternoon, students need to be ready to load cars as quickly as possible.

If your child is not present in carpool when we are dismissing, we may have you park and wait for your child.

    Yours,

    Aaron Marcin, Principal

We hope that this message finds you all doing well and staying as dry as possible on this rainy Sunday morning.

We appreciate everything that each of you do for our school community each day. We know how hard each of you work to ensure that your child has a positive school experience and we can see the commitment that each of you show to your child’s success now and in the future.

Please remind your child that personal electronic devices should be locked away in their locker each day. Happy Sunday East Millbrook Middle School/Academy Families!

Please remember that tomorrow – September 30th is a teacher workday. Students will not report to school tomorrow.

We have truly enjoyed getting to know your child during these first few weeks of school as we have been teaching routines, procedures, expectations, etc. We have also had amazing experiences with children as we have worked to build positive authentic relationships.

In addition to front-loading our school year with this work, we missed two days of learning and teaching due to unpredictable Hurricane weather. As a result, we will be sending interim reports home on Friday, October 4th so that we are best able to communicate to you the progress that your child is making.

Look for more information to come home and be posted on our website about this exciting event.

Cell Phones – We continue to enforce the same Cell Phone Policy at East Millbrook that has been in place for the past few years.

Cell phones are not to be seen by a staff member or in the “on position” as soon as students enter campus. If students do bring these items to school, they should be turned off and locked securely in their locker until the end of the instructional day. Confiscated items will be taken to the office and held for a parent/guardian to pick up. The main office is open from 7:00 AM-3:30 PM during every school day.

Lockers – Students at EM3 have been issued locks to securely store their belongings in their lockers each school day. Please help your child to memorize their locker combinations so that they can quickly get into their lockers when needed to avoid tardies. With these locks on lockers, we highly encourage students to keep cell phones in their lockers during the school day.

Athletic Events – Please check the EM3 Master Calendar to see when athletic events are taking place so that your child and family can support our athletes throughout the school year. We hosted our first home Volleyball match last week and were excited to have such a large home crowd cheering on the Lady Cougars to their WIN!

Positivity Project - This week, during Positivity Project time, teachers and students will discuss the character strength of teamwork. Teamwork is the ability and willingness to place overall group success as a higher priority than individual achievement. Citizenship is a willingness to work towards the common good as opposed to one’s own self-interest. Those who demonstrate strengths in teamwork and citizenship often work to help all group members find success. These individuals are willing to commit time and resources in order to further group goals and help toward the greater good.

This strength is associated with naturally positive feelings that accompany being a member of a family, team, school, political party, ethnic group, or country. However, those positive feelings can come with bad behavior towards the “out-group” in the form of blind obedience, disparaging words, or prejudice. This is important to guard against by leveraging a person’s other positive character strengths.

We look forward to seeing everyone soon. Please let us know if you need anything!

    Good Afternoon East Millbrook Families!

We had an amazing first week of school last week and we are looking forward to the next four days ahead. We appreciate all of the support that our families provided students and staff throughout the first week and we could not have had the week of success if it were not for all of you.

Student agenda's will be coming home this week. The agenda's are provided to all students free of charge and are a great way for families to check in on the work being done in class, assignments that may need to be completed after school, and are a great way to lead discussions with your children in the afternoons/evenings.

Remember that school staff are prepared to receive and monitor students at 7:00 AM each day. No one is available to monitor students prior to 7:00 AM  each day. If you are one of the first cars in the carpool line, please wait until the bell rings and our carpoool staff begin unloading cars.

Families who do participate in carpool - please make sure that students are getting into and out of your cars in front of our main office building. It is for safety reasons that we ask that students not move toward cars in other areas of our campus.

Students in grades 6-8 will be participating in our district's i-Ready assessment program in the next eight days. If you have any questions about the i-Ready assessments that are conducted in reading/math, please contact your child's math or ELA teacher for more information. School staff will use the data received to support specific instructional interventions aligned with your child's specific learning needs.

Thank you to all our student athletes who turned in their physicals and completed the online forms necessary to participate in try-outs. Our coaches have been impressed by all the talent that has come out so far this year.

It's time to clean up the campus!  We hope you can join us on Saturday, September 14 from 9:00-11:00am.   Here is the sign-up if you can help!

Please consider joining the PTSA!  The contributions of our families and community members are important to continue to grow our school and to provide the best experiences and education for your students.
