    Good Afternoon EM3 Families,

We hope that you have all had a great weekend!

EOG Schedule - This link will take you to our 20-21 EOG Schedule. Please note that all EOG’s will begin at 8:30 AM on the days that they are scheduled.

Summer Learning Program - The state of North Carolina legislature has determined that schools will offer Summer Learning Programs to students in Elementary, Middle, and High school who meet a set of criteria. We have worked with our district leadership to determine who those students are at EM3.

If your child has been selected to participate, you will receive an invitation via email/text by Wednesday of this week.

Families who receive an invitation must respond by May 14th. The summer learning program will last six weeks, but students do not have to attend all six weeks. If your family already has summer plans, you may respond ‘yes’ and then attend the weeks that your child is able.

If you have not received an invitation but you are interested in having your child participate, please reach out to Ms. Risalvato at jrisalvato@wcpss.net or by leaving her a message at 919-850-8755 ext. 27372.

Teacher Appreciation Week - Last week was Teacher Appreciation Week. Thank you to our PTSA for working to recognize all the work that our outstanding teachers do each day.

Thursday is a remote learning day for all students. All students will engage in learning from home on Thursday. Please be sure to have students login to their google classrooms and to complete any/all assignments in order to be marked attended.

Student Dress Code - Families of Plan A students, please be sure that your child is meeting the expectations of the WCPSS dress code each day.

Student Cell Phones - Students should not have their cell phones visible during the school day. Phones and earbuds should be kept in backpacks or on their person outside the view of staff/students throughout the day.

Students who are unable to meet these expectations may have their phones confiscated.

Pick-Up Time - Students who need to leave campus prior to 2:15 PM must be checked out by 1:45 PM. If you arrive on campus after 1:45 PM, you will need to wait in carpool until we dismiss at 2:15 PM

Student Start Time - Please help to ensure that students are on campus by 7:25 AM each day. Instruction starts at 7:30 AM each day.

Q4 Interims - Students will receive 4th quarter interims on May 14th.

Please let us know if you have any questions/needs, or if we can support in any way.

    Buenas tardes familias EM3,

    Good Morning EM3 Families,

We hope that you have all had a great weekend!

Congratulations to our 8th grade students who have already completed their high school registration process for next school year.

Registration - This week we will begin the process of registering our 6th and 7th graders for next school year. Ms. Risalvato and Mr. Lindsey will be leading classroom lessons on rising 7th and rising 8th grade registration.

Thank you to everyone who spent last week recognizing our Assistant Principals!

This week we want to send notes of appreciation to our Media Specialist, Ms. Massonette who helps to support reading, technology and remote learning all year long!

ELA Novels - Plan A families - If your child has any EL Novels from the first two quarters of the school year, please have your child bring them to school and turn them in to their ELA teachers.

ELA Novels - Virtual Academy Families - we will have a book drop off at the back of our Media Center, you can return your ELA novels in the Book Return bin anytime between now and the last day of school.

Wednesday is a regular school day for all students. Plan A students will come to campus for instruction on Wednesday and Virtual Academy students will login for a typical day of virtual learning including google meets.

VA 2021-2022 - WCPSS will be hosting an Open House to discuss Virtual Academy for next school year. Specific to EM3 - families who choose Virtual Academy will have somewhat limited electives offerings next school year. In order to maintain the integrity of our Visual and Performing Arts Theme, most electives will serve Plan A students who are on campus each day.

Virtual Academy EOG Survey - We are currently in the process of planning for the end of the school year. We appreciate the feedback that Virtual Academy families have provided around bringing your children on to campus for EOG’s. If you are a virtual academy family and you did not receive the EOG survey, please let us know.

Thank you to all of our EM3 athletes, coaches, and families who have done an amazing job with our intramurals this year. We have been truly excited to see everyone engaging and having so much fun.

Please let us know if you have any questions/needs, or if we can support in any way.

    Good Morning EM3 Families,

We hope that you are all doing well and enjoying the last day of the weekend. We are excited to see students and families throughout the upcoming week!

Please be sure to read the entire message this week as there is a lot of information. There is no school on Wednesday for VA students or Plan A students. There will not be in person instruction or live google meets.

Report Cards - Your students Quarter 3 report card grades are updated and available for you to access through your Powerschool account. If you would like to request a paper copy of your child's Quarter 3 report card then you may email Ms. Deans at  sdeans@wcpss.net  and she will mail a copy to the home address that we have on file.

Assistant Principal Appreciation - Last week was Assistant Principal Appreciation but because it was such a short week we are recognizing these amazing leaders this week. Mr. Artis in 6th Grade, Ms. Daugherty in 7th Grade and Ms. Howard in 8th Grade are essential in all that we do and we cannot thank them enough.

Memorable Monday - Write a Note/Card/Email of Thanks or Appreciation

Tasty Tuesday - Give a Sweet or Salty Snack

Thirsty Thursday - Bring your AP flavored water, soda, coffee, or tea.

Fabulous Friday - Join as a group to give a flower, plant, balloon, or gift card.

4th Quarter Materials Distribution - Virtual Academy families who do not have students on campus can pick up 4th quarter materials any day during the regular school day at the front office.

Good Afternoon EM3 Families,

Welcome to a day of sunshine and no rain! It is such a beautiful day outside and we hope that you are able to each enjoy as much of it as possible.

Thank you to everyone for your flexibility and adaptability last Thursday when the district switched to an asynchronous day of learning due to the weather. We appreciate everyone who was still able to check in, complete work and turn in assignments for credit and attendance.

Wednesday of this week, February 24th will be an asynchronous day of learning. Based on student feedback and input teachers will share video explanations of the work and expectations, or they will host a brief googlemeet. We hope that this will provide your child with more information and support as they work to complete assignments/tasks on these asynchronous days.

Please remember that asynchronous days are still instructional days for students. Attendance is based on assignment completion and participation in any googlemeets that are scheduled.

If you have questions or need further support; please contact your child’s teacher, grade level counselor or assistant principal. If you reply to this email with your child’s name and grade level, we can also forward your questions to the appropriate staff member.

Dreambox/Lexia Winners - Included in this message is a link to our Lexia and Dreambox winners for the week. These students will be able to choose from prizes that can be collected if they are Plan B students or that will be delivered if they are Virtual Academy students.

The data that is collected through Dreambox and Lexia will be used to help make decisions around promotion, retention, reporting mastery and electives placement next school year. It is VERY IMPORTANT that your child work to complete at least 30 minutes of lesson completion in both Dreambox and Lexia each week. Ideally, your child is completing 6 lessons in Dreambox and 50-60 minutes of Lexia.

‘Plan B’ Transition Families - Students assigned to Track 3/C are scheduled to return on February 22nd, 23rd and 25th and 26th for in person instruction. and will then engage in remote learning until their next track in period.

Tracks 1/A and 2/B are engaging in remote instruction and will NOT report to campus this week.

**Returning Rotations - please remember that carpool runs from 7:00 AM until 7:25 AM. Daily Instruction will begin at 7:30 AM each morning for our in person learners.

Our face to face instruction will end at 2:15 PM each day. Carpool will begin at 2:15 PM and run until 2:35 PM.

Virtual Academy Families - Will remain Virtual for the rest of the school year.

Picture Day Information - Families, you will soon be receiving information from Strawbridge Studios and EM3 on school pictures. The dates below are the dates that each cohort will be scheduled to have school pictures taken.

Pictures will be taken in our Auditorium on the following dates and all health/safety measures will be taken throughout the process.

    • March 8     - Cohort 2/B
    • March 15   - Cohort 3/C
    • March 22   - Cohort 1/A
    • April 14       - Virtual Academy (families will sign up electronically)

Transportation Update:  If you have not done so already, please complete the following two steps to ensure that your student(s) are assigned bus transportation in time for their return to school:

Click here to complete the Bus Attestation Form. You'll need to complete one for each child. The transportation department will not assign your child(ren) to a bus without this step being completed.

Attention 8th Grade Families:  It's that time!  We are going to be preparing your 8th grade student for their transition to high school over the next few months.

Please view the rising 9th grade high school registration website for important information including upcoming dates, high school information sessions hosted by your student's assigned high school, high school 9th grade course offering sheets, and more.

In addition - 8th grade families, please read this MEMO for information regarding your child’s ELA instruction for the remainder of the school year.

Important: Complete a Meal Benefits Application by Feb. 26, 2021 -

    Buenas tardes familias EM3,

    Good Afternoon EM3 Families,

We hope that this message finds each of you safe and well on this day of remembrance, reflection, and honor. In addition to planning for the next few weeks of school, I have spent part of my day teaching and parenting my children for the purpose of today.

At our breakfast table this morning we sat talking and sharing about our day, our hopes, dreams, acts of service and of course, the daily chores that we each needed to complete by 6:00 PM. In listening to our children share about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. it became clear that the historical facts we have been teaching were being diminished by the stories, and activities that are learned in school.

In an interview with the Morehouse College Student Newspaper in 1947, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was quoted as saying, “If we are not careful, our colleges will produce a group of close-minded, unscientific, illogical propagandists, consumed with immoral acts. Be careful, 'brethren!' Be careful, teachers!”

This quote holds true not only to colleges, but to preschools, care providers, and all public schools Kindergarten through twelfth grade. It is important for us all to learn and teach about the actual man, events, and the people he served when we honor him the third Monday of every January as a national holiday.

We must learn from our actual history and not the biased, carefully chosen and popularly published acts/remembrances. These intentionally biased teaching tools were created within a system that was designed to make the majority of our nation seem good, kind, and affirming toward the man who we celebrate and honor today.

The truth is, during the lifetime of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., those who made up the majority did not respect, appreciate, or treat this man with the kindness, respect, or dignity that they hope we will assume they did.

Ten years after the interview with Morehouse College, Dr. King wrote a book titled “Stride Toward Freedom: The Montgomery Story” and penned the quote “True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice.”

In two days, our nation will witness the inauguration of our country’s 46th president who is working to ensure that his cabinet will continually do better to represent the people whom they serve. Our children will see representation of race, gender, age, sexual orientation and history being expanded.

It is the combined experiences of any one person or group of people that guide in their decision making, voting, and conviction. With a cabinet as diverse as the one that has been nominated, we will hear from voices that may not have always been represented when making decisions within our national government in the past.

With a greater representation stemming from a diverse group of people who may not always agree; we will hope to see productive tension that will result in a greater justice for all!

In addition to sharing the updates that are coming for EM3 this week, we more hope that you have the opportunity this week to share with your child the history being made during their lifetime.

We appreciate everyone in our school community who continues to Wear a Mask, Wait six feet apart, and Wash their hands. Continued participation in the three W’s ensures that our entire community remains as healthy as possible.

Daily Attendance - It is important for students to attend class every day whether they are in person, remote or virtual academy. Please remind your child of the importance of attendance and work completion. Good Afternoon EM3 Families,

Good Sunday evening to all of our EM3 families. The cool December weather has been with us this weekend and we hope that you have all enjoyed some of this amazing outdoor weather.

Asynchronous Friday - This week our asynchronous day of instruction is Friday, December 11th. There will be no in person or live google meets on Friday, December 11th.

Health/Safety Requirements - Students who are scheduled to return to campus cannot have a temperature of 100.4 or higher and must be feeling well. Students who have a temperature of 100.4 or higher cannot enter any buildings. Any students who do not feel well, will be escorted to a Care Center and must be picked up immediately. Please note, any child who is not feeling well, or exhibiting any symptoms of Covid-19 will be kept in the Care Center until someone is able to pick them up.

Daily Attendance - It is important for students to attend class every day whether they are in person, remote or virtual academy. Please remind your child of the importance of attendance and work completion. Quarter and semester grades are being given as usual, and not attending classes or completing work will likely have a negative impact on their classroom performance.

Dreambox Competition - We are holding a raffle for the next two weeks, students have provided us with the incentives that they would like to choose from. Each time a student completes 3 dreambox lessons in a week, their name will be entered into the raffle. Students should be completing 7 lessons a week, so a student who meets the expectations will have their name entered into the raffle at least two times.

We will be drawing three names from each grade level on Friday for the Dreambox raffle.

Lexia Competition - We are holding a similar raffle for Lexia over the next two weeks. Students will have their names entered each time they complete 30 minutes of Lexia each week. The expectation is that students complete 60 minutes a week. A student who is meeting the schoolwide expectation will have their name entered at least two times each week.

We will be drawing three names from each grade level for the Lexia raffle on Friday.

Thank you all for your partnership so far this school year. We are so excited to see how much learning has been taking place. Being in classrooms, whether they be virtual or in person is the greatest part of our day and we look forward to seeing everyone this week.
