    Good Morning EM3 Families,

We hope that you have all had a great weekend!

Congratulations to our 8th grade students who have already completed their high school registration process for next school year.

Registration - This week we will begin the process of registering our 6th and 7th graders for next school year. Ms. Risalvato and Mr. Lindsey will be leading classroom lessons on rising 7th and rising 8th grade registration.

Thank you to everyone who spent last week recognizing our Assistant Principals!

This week we want to send notes of appreciation to our Media Specialist, Ms. Massonette who helps to support reading, technology and remote learning all year long!

ELA Novels - Plan A families - If your child has any EL Novels from the first two quarters of the school year, please have your child bring them to school and turn them in to their ELA teachers.

ELA Novels - Virtual Academy Families - we will have a book drop off at the back of our Media Center, you can return your ELA novels in the Book Return bin anytime between now and the last day of school.

Wednesday is a regular school day for all students. Plan A students will come to campus for instruction on Wednesday and Virtual Academy students will login for a typical day of virtual learning including google meets.

VA 2021-2022 - WCPSS will be hosting an Open House to discuss Virtual Academy for next school year. Specific to EM3 - families who choose Virtual Academy will have somewhat limited electives offerings next school year. In order to maintain the integrity of our Visual and Performing Arts Theme, most electives will serve Plan A students who are on campus each day.

Virtual Academy EOG Survey - We are currently in the process of planning for the end of the school year. We appreciate the feedback that Virtual Academy families have provided around bringing your children on to campus for EOG’s. If you are a virtual academy family and you did not receive the EOG survey, please let us know.

Thank you to all of our EM3 athletes, coaches, and families who have done an amazing job with our intramurals this year. We have been truly excited to see everyone engaging and having so much fun.

Please let us know if you have any questions/needs, or if we can support in any way.

    Good Afternoon EM3 Families,

Welcome to a day of sunshine and no rain! It is such a beautiful day outside and we hope that you are able to each enjoy as much of it as possible.

Thank you to everyone for your flexibility and adaptability last Thursday when the district switched to an asynchronous day of learning due to the weather. We appreciate everyone who was still able to check in, complete work and turn in assignments for credit and attendance.

Wednesday of this week, February 24th will be an asynchronous day of learning. Based on student feedback and input teachers will share video explanations of the work and expectations, or they will host a brief googlemeet. We hope that this will provide your child with more information and support as they work to complete assignments/tasks on these asynchronous days.

Please remember that asynchronous days are still instructional days for students. Attendance is based on assignment completion and participation in any googlemeets that are scheduled.

If you have questions or need further support; please contact your child’s teacher, grade level counselor or assistant principal. If you reply to this email with your child’s name and grade level, we can also forward your questions to the appropriate staff member.

    Good Afternoon EM3 Families,

We hope that this message finds each of you safe and well on this day of remembrance, reflection, and honor. In addition to planning for the next few weeks of school, I have spent part of my day teaching and parenting my children for the purpose of today.

At our breakfast table this morning we sat talking and sharing about our day, our hopes, dreams, acts of service and of course, the daily chores that we each needed to complete by 6:00 PM. In listening to our children share about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. it became clear that the historical facts we have been teaching were being diminished by the stories, and activities that are learned in school.

In an interview with the Morehouse College Student Newspaper in 1947, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was quoted as saying, “If we are not careful, our colleges will produce a group of close-minded, unscientific, illogical propagandists, consumed with immoral acts. Be careful, 'brethren!' Be careful, teachers!”

This quote holds true not only to colleges, but to preschools, care providers, and all public schools Kindergarten through twelfth grade. It is important for us all to learn and teach about the actual man, events, and the people he served when we honor him the third Monday of every January as a national holiday.

We must learn from our actual history and not the biased, carefully chosen and popularly published acts/remembrances. These intentionally biased teaching tools were created within a system that was designed to make the majority of our nation seem good, kind, and affirming toward the man who we celebrate and honor today.

The truth is, during the lifetime of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., those who made up the majority did not respect, appreciate, or treat this man with the kindness, respect, or dignity that they hope we will assume they did.

Ten years after the interview with Morehouse College, Dr. King wrote a book titled “Stride Toward Freedom: The Montgomery Story” and penned the quote “True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice.”

In two days, our nation will witness the inauguration of our country’s 46th president who is working to ensure that his cabinet will continually do better to represent the people whom they serve. Our children will see representation of race, gender, age, sexual orientation and history being expanded.

It is the combined experiences of any one person or group of people that guide in their decision making, voting, and conviction. With a cabinet as diverse as the one that has been nominated, we will hear from voices that may not have always been represented when making decisions within our national government in the past.

With a greater representation stemming from a diverse group of people who may not always agree; we will hope to see productive tension that will result in a greater justice for all!

In addition to sharing the updates that are coming for EM3 this week, we more hope that you have the opportunity this week to share with your child the history being made during their lifetime.

This is due to some changes in assignments to Virtual Academy etc. This will be cleared by Thursday and only semester two classes will be visible after Thursday.

    Good Afternoon EM3 Families,

Happy December 13th East Millbrook Families. We hope that you are all doing well and that your weekend has been safe and healthy. We appreciate everyone in our school community who continues to Wear a Mask, Wait six feet apart, and Wash their hands. Continued participation in the three W’s ensures that our entire community remains as healthy as possible.

As we prepare to welcome back our Cohort 1/A students in person tomorrow, please remember to dress appropriately for the weather. All students who are not in Cohort 1/A should plan to log in to google meets and participate from home.

School Board Information - The WCPSS Board of Education will be meeting for a special session tomorrow, December 13th. They will hold a regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, December 14th. The topic of the meetings will be centered around the health metrics of our community and school operations.

Asynchronous Wednesday - This week our asynchronous day of instruction is Wednesday, December 16th. There will be no in-person or live google meets on Wednesday, December 16th.

Family Updates - As we prepare for the second semester, families who have chosen to participate in Virtual Academy for the second semester should have received confirmation letters. Thank you to everyone who completed the process for the second semester.

Daily Attendance - It is important for students to attend class every day whether they are in person, remote or virtual academy. Please remind your child of the importance of attendance and work completion. Quarter and semester grades are being given as usual, and not attending classes or completing work will likely have a negative impact on their classroom performance.

Dreambox Competition - Congratulations to the following students whose names were drawn as raffle winners this week. Each student who completed three Dreambox lessons was entered into the raffle. There was no limit to the number of entries that any student could have.

Our winner will choose from a wide variety of prizes that students can choose from.

    6th Grade Winners - Isaac C, Jamel W, London W.

    Good Afternoon EM3 Families,

Good Sunday evening to all of our EM3 families. The cool December weather has been with us this weekend and we hope that you have all enjoyed some of this amazing outdoor weather.

As we prepare to welcome back our Cohort 3/C students in person tomorrow, please remember to dress appropriately for the weather. All students who are not in Cohort 3/C should plan to login to google meets and participate from home.

Asynchronous Friday - This week our asynchronous day of instruction is Friday, December 11th. There will be no in person or live google meets on Friday, December 11th.

Health/Safety Requirements - Students who are scheduled to return to campus cannot have a temperature of 100.4 or higher and must be feeling well. Students who have a temperature of 100.4 or higher cannot enter any buildings. Any students who do not feel well, will be escorted to a Care Center and must be picked up immediately. Please note, any child who is not feeling well, or exhibiting any symptoms of Covid-19 will be kept in the Care Center until someone is able to pick them up.

Daily Attendance - It is important for students to attend class every day whether they are in person, remote or virtual academy. Please remind your child of the importance of attendance and work completion. Quarter and semester grades are being given as usual, and not attending classes or completing work will likely have a negative impact on their classroom performance.

Dreambox Competition - We are holding a raffle for the next two weeks, students have provided us with the incentives that they would like to choose from. Each time a student completes 3 dreambox lessons in a week, their name will be entered into the raffle. Students should be completing 7 lessons a week, so a student who meets the expectations will have their name entered into the raffle at least two times.

We will be drawing three names from each grade level on Friday for the Dreambox raffle.

Lexia Competition - We are holding a similar raffle for Lexia over the next two weeks. Students will have their names entered each time they complete 30 minutes of Lexia each week. The expectation is that students complete 60 minutes a week. A student who is meeting the schoolwide expectation will have their name entered at least two times each week.

We will be drawing three names from each grade level for the Lexia raffle on Friday.

Thank you all for your partnership so far this school year. We are so excited to see how much learning has been taking place. Being in classrooms, whether they be virtual or in person is the greatest part of our day and we look forward to seeing everyone this week.

    All our Best,

    Good Afternoon EM3 Families,

We hope that you have all enjoyed a beautiful and historic weekend in our City, State, and Country. We are looking forward to a great week as we welcome back students who are in Cohort 3/C.

Cohort 3/C Families - The total number of students scheduled to be on campus tomorrow is 90. There will be 30 sixth graders, 33 seventh graders, and 27 eighth grade students. These families have been notified that they are on the return to campus list and in Cohort 3/C. If you have not been notified of this information via text, email, or teacher contact - your child should NOT return to campus tomorrow.

Students in cohort 3/C should plan to bring with them to school, a Face-Covering Mask, a water bottle, charged device and charger, ELA/Math Materials, and signed forms (Bus Document/Health Document and BYOD if bringing a personal device to school).

Students who are not scheduled to be on campus will have to return home immediately. In order for us to meet all state and local guidelines for the return to school buildings at the Middle School level, we cannot have any additional students on campus. Our current plans meet the requirements with the number of students we have scheduled to return.

There are no exceptions to these health protocols and we strongly encourage all Cohort 3/C families to ensure that their children are healthy and well before sending them to campus.

If your child is cohort 3/C - and riding the bus, please make sure that they have filled out the bus attestation form that has been sent out by the district and was also in last week’s message.

Students in Cohorts 1/A and 2/B will continue engaging in instruction from home. Students were notified last week of some schedule changes that are necessary due to staggered lunch times by grade level and other factors related to the return of some students to in person instruction.

For Students in 1/A and 2/B who are engaging from home this week, lessons will be asynchronous on Monday. Students will watch videos of their teacher and then work to complete independent assignments. This will allow our Plan B teachers the time necessary to teach school expectations, processes, and procedures to students on campus.

Wednesday is Veteran’s Day and there is NO SCHOOL on Wednesday.

Forms to be completed/turned in - There are three important forms that must be turned in for students who are returning to campus. We will be collecting these forms in homeroom classes when students return to campus.

    • Attestation Form (bus riders):  You are required to submit the attestation form stating that you and your child will abide by all health and safety protocols for bus ridership.  You can fill out the form online or complete a printed form. Printable forms can be found at wcpss.net/busform. Students are not permitted to ride the bus until this form has been submitted.

If your child is enrolled in Virtual Academy or engaged in remote learning (off campus) please review the list of food distribution sites where your family can take advantage of this opportunity and pick up food off site. Food Distribution Sites

Medication Drop-Off: If your child is a Plan B student and you have medication to drop off at school, we are currently taking appointments to practice social distancing procedures.
