    East Millbrook Families and Community,

It is our sincerest hope that this message finds each of you safe and well. We will continue to be here for every family, each day. We appreciate those students and families who have reached out via email, GoogleClassroom, Remind, phone calls, texts messages etc. If we can be of any support to anyone - please let us know.

Final Grades - Friday was the final day for students to turn in work for assignments that were provided prior to March 13th. Teachers are ensuring that grades are updated and finalized in Power Schools. Final grades will be posted by 5:00 PM on Friday, June 5th.

Below are three examples of comments that apply to final student grades.

    1. If your child was passing a course prior to March 16th - the following comment will apply to their passing grade of PC-19:

“Prior to school closing on March 16 due to COVID19, Your Child was meeting grade level expectations insert course name with at least a 60% average.  This meets the district’s requirements for receiving a PC-19.”

    1. If your child was not passing a course prior to March 16th but worked throughout remote learning to complete and/or make-up assignments in order to bring up averages, the following comment will apply to their passing grade of PC-19:

“Prior to school closing on March 16 due to COVID19, Your Child was not meeting grade level expectations for the 3rd quarter insert course name. However, they have been participating in remote learning during this time and completing assignments. This has helped to improve their overall standing and as a result he/she will receive a PC-19 for their final course grade.”

    1. If your child was not passing a course prior to March 16th and did not engage in any opportunities during remote learning to increase their overall grade, they will receive a withdrawal mark of WC-19.

“Prior to school closing on March 16 due to COVID19, Student Name was not meeting grade level expectations in insert course name with at least a 60% average. In addition, he/she did not participate in remote learning which could’ve helped to improve their final course grade to a PC-19. Although contact was made with the student/family to help them engage in remote learning, the student still chose not to complete any assignments.”

The schedule for locker-clean out was mailed out last week. Families may come in during the days/time that correlate with their last names.

Locker Combinations - If your child does not recall their locker combination - please have them reach out to their homeroom teacher BEFORE arriving on campus this week. We will have locker combination lists printed, but that will delay the process of getting in and out of the buildings as quickly as possible.

Limited Access to Building - As shared in the message - only the student and/or ONE adult will be permitted access to their lockers.

Check Student Email - Each EM3 student has a WCPSS student email account. Be sure to have your child check this email account daily to receive important updates and information.

Instrument Returns/Uniform Returns/Book Returns - For students and families who need to return items to EM3 such as instruments, uniforms, etc. We will have stations for drop off when families are on campus June 3rd, 4th, and 5th. We will also have additional days/times set up for instrument return at EM3.

We look forward to seeing many of you this week. Stay safe today and every day.

    Yours,

    Aaron Marcin, Lead Learner/Principal

    Good Afternoon EM3 Families!

We hope that this message finds everyone safe, healthy and enjoying some of the cool weather today before the rain is scheduled to fall later this evening.

Device Check-Out Round #1 - Thank you to all the staff who volunteered and the families who were able to make it out to check out devices in order to check out devices for Remote Learning. We spent Friday and Saturday checking devices out to students/families who indicated that they were in need of technology support in order to engage in remote learning.

Device Check-Out Round #2 - We will begin contacting families on Monday who did not make it out to EM3 on Friday or Saturday to pick up the device that they previously indicated that they needed. We will also begin to schedule Round 2 pick-ups. This communication will be done by phone call or small group email messages. Please be sure to check your voicemail and email regularly.

Device Check-Out Expectation - if your family checked out a device for your EM3 student. The student is expected to engage in learning each week, complete Dreambox lessons, and PowerUp lessons. If there is a lack of engagement and your family checked out a device - we will come and pick the device up and return it to EM3. These expectations were provided to every student during Check-Out on Friday and Saturday.

Remote Learning Expectations - Thank you to EVERYONE who has worked to ensure that students are engaged in learning experiences. It is important that students complete assigned tasks and turn in work to teachers. Teachers are providing feedback to students on the work that they are doing and we will be completing 3rd and 4th Quarter Report Cards.

Our Daily Schedule for Remote Learning has left room for each student to engage in learning outside of the prepared lessons and materials found in GoogleClassroom, etc.

It is our expectation that students engage in at least 20 minutes daily of both DreamBox and PowerUp. This would equate to at least 100 minutes of each of these digital learning tools weekly.

The minutes goal will help our students receive learning on their instructional level, but what we really want to emphasize is the number of lessons completed passed. This is where students can show proficiency on certain skills. The data that we collect from student use will assist us in class placements next year, need for support, etc. ALL students have access to these tools.

Monitoring Student Engagement - We will be tracking student engagement (activity in Google classroom, assignments completed and turned in, Dreambox, PowerUp, etc) and communicating with families when we see an absence or lack of sufficient engagement by a student during each week of remote learning.

Please check with your child to see the work that they are completing and more importantly the work that they are turning in

Remote learning provides families the opportunity to see each assignnment, the work turned in, and the feedback from teachers. Be sure to be checking in each day or two to ensure that your child is engaging in remote learning.

Updated Powerschool Information - Our amazing staff have been working to ensure that they are sharing updated contact information (phone numbers/emails) with our Data Manger Ms. Yancey. If you know another EM3 family who is not receiving email or text updates each Sunday - please have them email tmarcin@wcpss.net or pyancey@wcpss.net to have their information updated.

    Good Afternoon East Millbrook Families,

We hope that this message finds each of you safe and healthy as we prepare to begin a new experience this week, Remote Learning.

Thank you EM3 Staff - We could not be more proud of the EM3 staff who have worked tirelessly to design and prepare their digital learning platforms for students to be successful. This work has included website development, google classroom implementation, hosting Google Meet sessions, and a lot of research on the best practices to use when implementing Remote Learning for students who are accustomed to classroom teaching/learning.

Grace - We ask that we all continue to practice and show Grace throughout the week as students, teachers, and families begin something new. We will likely all have questions, barriers, and initial frustrations that we will have to work together to be successful in the coming weeks.

Feedback - We will be seeking input/feedback from students and teachers at the end of the week so that we can find out what things worked and what things we can improve moving forward.

Technology Support - We want to thank every student and family who has been in contact with us to let us know that they support in the form of technology in order to engage in remote learning.

WCPSS Technology Services has been working the past week and a half to serve as many people possible in over 190 schools. As soon as the devices are delivered to EM3 for Check-Out - we will be notifying the families who indicated that they were in need of this support.

Schedules - Each grade level team has created a schedule that looks similar to the one below. The schedule is a recommendation and outlines what a day could look

like for students. All information and resources used for the teaching/learning times is pre-recorded and will be available any time of the day.

     Schedule

Office Hours - Each Teacher has posted their office hours with their schedules. The Office Hours may vary depending on the needs of the students, families and/or teachers. Our staff will update their posted office hours. If you have any questions please contact your child’s teacher(s).

Remote Learning Websites - All of these can be found on our Website, but we are providing quick links for all EM3 families here.

6th Grade, 7th Grade, 8th Grade, Visual/Performing Arts & Spanish Electives, CTE Electives, Health and PE Electives, English Language Learners, Arts Integration Projects.

    Good Afternoon East Millbrook Families,

Thank you to everyone who has been in touch with us these past few days as we have worked to touch base with every EM3 family by phone, email, text, or smoke signal. We appreciate everything that you are asking and sharing with us about how we can best serve you and your families during this time.

This week continues to be a time in WCPSS in which students will be reviewing and supporting skills that were taught prior to the cancellation of on campus activities due to COVID-19. We encourage families to continue using the resources found at our Remote Learning Website.

EM3 teachers will be reaching out this week to share more information to you as we prepare to move to a digital teaching and learning platform the week of April 13th.

Family Contact Information - Teams will be updating the contact lists (phone numbers, emails, reminds, etc) in an effort to streamline all information. The staff at EM3 have been amazing as they worked this week to live out our theme, #WeROne Grade levels, Departments, Curriculum Specialists and all who serve at EM3 have been working to be as consistent as possible so that we are able to make this transition as smooth as possible for students/parents/families.

EM3 Website Updates - Our EM3 website will become the HUB of communication and the Online Learning Platform for everyone at EM3. By this Friday, we will have added buttons for each grade level and team so that students can easily find all the information, assignments, schedules, etc for each grade level team. Information will look the same across the board, resulting in a process that will be easier for everyone to follow.

Slowly Transitioning - Some teams have had more experience with digital technology in and out of the classroom prior to COVID-19 and they may have moved a little faster in communicating and setting up resources. We want to thank all of the amazing staff members at EM3 who are all working around the clock to design and define the instructional platform that will become our new normal during these unprecedented times.

Virtual Meet-Up - WCPSS will only support GoogleMeets as a way for us to video conference with students. GoogleMeets provides the most security from hackers and is the best way for us to continue to provide the highest online security that we are all accustomed to as a part of the WCPSS community. Teachers are working to set these up and have at least one virtual meet up by the end of this week. Some teams and teachers have already had them. Thank you for participating when possible.

    Good Afternoon EM3 Families!

We hope that you all had a wonderful weekend. We are looking forward to school being back tomorrow morning.

Congratulations to the EM3 Chorus who performed last week and received all SUPERIOR ratings for their hard work! We are so proud of all of you!

Thank you to all our families who are working to ensure that carpool procedures are being followed each morning and afternoon.

East Millbrook will be welcoming all rising 6th graders and their families to campus Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM. If you have a rising 6th grader, please be sure to attend the rising 6th grade event to learn more about your child's 6th grade registration and informational session.

If your child has a personal electronic device, we are encouraging students to keep these devices locked in lockers during the instructional school day. If your child has earbuds or headphones, those should not be visible during the school day unless they are being used in a classroom environment.

We will be sending out more information about changes to our personal electronic device policy in the near future. It is best to begin having conversations at home with your child about how they can secure these items away from themselves during the school day. Encouraging your children to keep these devices locked in lockers will best prepare them for changes that are coming our way.

Our PTSA Board needs you!  If you are interested in learning more about volunteering and getting more involved, email us at emmms.ptsa@gmail.com.  Our next meeting is on Tuesday, March 31 at 6:30. Check out our website too!
