Timers to Stay on Task
Use timers to help students stay on task. Any timer will work: kitchen timer, digital timer, or even an online timer. One way to use timers is to break big assignments up into smaller steps. Set a time goal for each step and have your student try to beat the clock. Another application is to gauge how much time your student is currently able to stay on task. Use the timer to try to increase that incrementally, by 30 seconds or a minute each time. Lastly, you can use a timer for breaks. If your student finishes a task, set a timer for 5-10 minutes and let them have a break until the timer goes off.
