Greetings Green Elementary Community.  Here are our updates for March, 2020.

    Arts In Action-4th grade
Please join fourth grade in celebrating the hard work and creativity of their 4th grade students on Tuesday, March 3 at 6:00pm in the gym.  We look forward to seeing this performance!

    Leader in Me Lighthouse Designation
As you know, we are a Leader in Me school. This means we have a partnership with the Leader in Me Foundation and the Franklin Covey organization.  We have worked very hard over the past few years to infuse the principles of Leadership into our culture, instruction, and our building.  To celebrate the hard work of staff and students, we have applied for a designation called "Lighthouse Status".  We will have a visit from the Leader in Me Foundation in late April to spend time on our campus touring the school, watching instruction, and talking to students, staff, parents, Student Lighthouse Team, and administration.  Please support us in this endeavor by continuing to reinforce the habits at home, visiting our web page for resources to help you do that, and by supporting your child in his/her leadership development.  As a reminder ....

Habit 1:  Be Proactive (I'm in charge of me.)
Habit 2:  Put First Things First (Work, then play.)
Habit 3:  Begin With the End in Mind (Have a plan.)
Habit 4:  Think Win-Win (You win, I win, we all can win.  Find the third alternative.)
Habit 5:  Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood.  (Listen before you speak.  Listen to hear, not to respond.)
Habit 6:  Synergize (Together is better!)
Habit 7:  Sharpen the Saw (Balance feels best.)
Habit 8:  Find Your Voice, Then Help Someone Else Find Theirs

Thank you as always for supporting our efforts to build leadership at school by supporting it at home!

    Online School Payments
Please be sure that when paying for field trips online, you designate your child's teacher to receive the credit for field trip funds.  This will allow the teacher to have accurate records of who has paid and when.  We have had some issues with parents paying but assigning the wrong teacher, thus we have to go back through the system to find the payment.  Please be sure to click on the correct teacher so that your payment is posted to the correct account.  Thanks!

    Dismissal
Please be reminded that we dismiss at 4:00 and carpool students are to be picked up no later than 4:30pm.  If you do not use bus service, it is the parents responsibility to pick up children in a timely manner, or to make arrangements for students to be picked up and inform the school ahead of time of those arrangements.  Please work with your neighbors and friends now to have these plans in place.

Education Advocacy Panel & Covey for Parents
Thank you to those of you who were able to join us last Wednesday evening for our Advocacy Panel and for Covey Parent Night.  Thank you to those who posed questions, who had a Think Win-Win attitude toward our work with the school board and the legislature, and for Beginning With the End in Mind as we collaborate with government officials to advocate for positive changes in education.  THANK YOU for showing up!

    Illness
As we focus on Being Proactive and Thinking Win-Win, please be reminded that sick students should stay at home until they are well.  Students who are sent home with fevers must be fever free for 24 hours without medication before returning to school.  Please remind your children to cough into their elbows, not their hands, and to wash their hands with soap frequently.  We will remind them as well.  Please also be reminded that we are not allowed to ask students or their families about illness, merely to require a note to explain an absence.  This is a FERPA requirement.

If you wish to have information about WCPSS procedures for illness, please refer to our school web page, scroll to the bottom for Wake News, and read a full account of our procedures for keeping school healthy.  Thank you for your help.
