Principal Update May 2019
Greetings Green Elementary School community! We hope that everyone enjoyed the break and that everyone is ready for the last push to the end of this school year. Thanks so much for your support thus far!
Kudos go out to our fabulous PTA for sponsoring Spring Fling this past weekend. Thanks to our PTA board for providing a fantastic event for families and thanks to all of you who came out and had fellowship with us.
Kindergarten Open House
Green Elementary will host our Kindergarten Open House on Tuesday, May 21 beginning at 6:15pm. We’ll have health assessment information, upcoming deadlines, and supply lists for you at that time. Please register at the tables in the lobby. Students will be allowed to visit classrooms while adults will meet in the Media Center for important information sharing. If you have a neighbor with an upcoming Kindergartener, please remind them of this important event.
PTA General Meeting
Our PTA will host their final general meeting of the school year on Thursday, May 23 at 6:15pm in the Media Center. Please join us!
End of Grade exams are coming up soon. Please see the schedule below.
We want to make sure that everyone understands the importance of these exams but we also want to maintain confidence in our children and make sure that we don’t place undue stress on them. EOG’s, as they are commonly referred to, are administered in grades 3 and 4 for reading and math, and in grade 5 for reading, math, and science. They are statewide exams and they are common, meaning that all students take the same exam. There are no exceptions or differences in the test based on individual student competencies or needs.
Knowing that, we want to reassert that Green Elementary School values all of its children, no matter their gifts or their challenges. We believe that children cannot be simplified or quantified by a single “test”, nor do we believe that all children have the same aspirations, motivations, or dreams. A test is a test.
To be clear, we want every child to do their very best and give a strong effort on these exams. However, we take a broader and much richer, more meaningful view of our children.
How can you help? Please be sure that all students are well rested for each day of exams. Please be sure that they come to school in a good frame of mind – positive and confident. Attendance during this time is critical so that students don’t miss out on other events in order to do make up exams. If students are absent, the exam will be administered on the first day that they return to school.
