Good afternoon, this is Eric Fitts, the proud principal of the new East Millbrook Academy of the Visual and Performing Arts.

We will have a PTSA meeting at 5:30 on Tuesday, September 12 in the auditorium.  You’ll hear information from our Board Members and be able to join the PTSA that evening.

Also, we will have our Open House that evening.  Parents will have a chance to go every class period that their child attends and meet the teacher.  Please report to your child’s 1st period/homeroom class at 6:00 PM and you’ll be given their schedule.  You will transition to every class period to meet every teacher that supports the teaching and learning for your child.  We look forward to seeing you that evening.

Please note the school policy for signing students out early during the school day. On page 4 of the student agenda, it states that students will not be checked out of school after 1:45 PM.  We need families to support this expectation so that we can facilitate a safe and orderly dismissal.  Thank you for your assistance and cooperation.

Our Academically and Intellectually Gifted program is accepting nominations for the 2017-18 school year for any student that has not been previously identified to receive AIG services. A parent may nominate their student to be tested in the area of reading and/or math. Please submit an e-mail to Mrs. Fergeson at hfergeson@wcpss.net or submit a note to the school office stating the student's name and the subject area of reading and/or math for testing. Once the nomination process has been completed, parents will receive information regarding the testing dates in October. All nominations must be received no later than Monday, September 25th to be considered for testing in October.

I am asking that you all consider staying connected to the school by opting to receive text messages from School Messenger.  The text messages will only be sent to people who opt in.  You can opt in by texting YES to the shortcode 67587.  We will begin to send messages only via text message and we don’t want you to miss out on the information.  Please stay connected!

We notice more students on campus prior to 7:00 AM.  Please be aware that school doors are not opened and supervision doesn’t begin until that 7:00 AM time.  Please help us keep your children safe by keeping them with you until school starts.

As always, thank you for partnering with us to ensure that your student has the best educational experience at East Millbrook.  Have a great afternoon and a wonderful week.

Good afternoon, this is Eric Fitts, the proud principal of the new East Millbrook Academy of the Visual and Performing Arts Magnet Middle School.

We have had a great week of learning and teaching and I appreciate all of the support from families adjusting to the procedures for arrival and dismissal on campus.

Please enjoy this Labor Day tomorrow.  Labor Day, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

The start time for East Millbrook is 7:00 AM and dismissal is at 2:15 PM.  Please check the bus routes that are posted on line if you have questions about routes and pick –up and drop off times for your neighborhood.  Also, please make sure your child knows how they are supposed to get home each afternoon.

If you are a car pool parent, please make sure you are not dropping off your child on the side of Spring Forest Road.  This is very dangerous;  to the child and to other cars traveling behind you on the road.  Also, while going through car pool, make sure you pull all the way up the lane so that we can maximize the space and serve as many students as we can.  There are adults holding ‘Stop’ and ‘Go’ signs in the lane.  Please adhere to their directions to keep everyone safe and help this process move in an orderly fashion.  Your support will truly be appreciated.

We were delighted to see the many new students and returning students at our orientation last Wednesday.  It was a great day with a lot of positive energy from all stakeholders.  We truly appreciate your attendance at the event and we look forward to this continued partnership throughout the school year.

Tomorrow, we will have all students report directly to their homeroom class.  If your child did not attend orientation and is not sure about the location of their homeroom class, please report to your grade level building in the morning.  There will be teachers and counselors in each building to direct students to their homeroom class.  Students will then get their class schedules from their homeroom teacher.

The start time for East Millbrook is 7:00 AM and dismissal is at 2:15 PM.  Please check the bus routes that are posted on line if you have questions about routes and pick –up and drop off times for your neighborhood.  Also, please make sure your child knows how they are supposed to get home in the afternoon.

Last, please be patient as we work through new arrival and dismissal procedures.  Our intent is to dismiss in an orderly and safe fashion.  Please help us with these transitions and follow the directions given by the teachers that are on duty in the morning and in the afternoon.

As always, thank you for partnering with us to ensure that your student has the best educational experience at East Millbrook.  Have a great afternoon and a wonderful week.
