• The State of North Carolina requires an additional vaccination for seniors prior to the start of their senior year.

North Carolina law now requires all rising 12th grade students to receive a meningococcal vaccine booster before starting 12th grade.  This is a two-dose immunization.  Good news - the first dose was required in 7th grade and is likely already done if you were in NC schools then.  Further good news - in many cases the second dose was a part of your student's 16 year old check up.

This handout provides more information about the vaccination.

What do you need to do?

If your student has already had the immunization, we will only need a record of it submitted to the school.  Parents will need to provide a copy of their student's immunization record.  This can be submitted to:

    Cathy Howard, School Data Manager
    afhs-student-svcs@wcpss.net
    Phone:  (919) 694-0500, x20017
Fax:  (919) 694-0526, Attn: Ms. Howard

If your student has not yet received the immunization, please school an appointment to receive this prior to the first day of the senior year.  Appointments are also available at the Health Department.

State law requires that the school exclude students starting on the 30th day of school if an immunization record including this requirement is not submitted.  Please help us to keep all students attending school daily!
