Second Quarter Highlights: A Creative Journey Through Arts and Design at East Millbrook!
The second quarter has been an incredible whirlwind of artistic expression, interdisciplinary learning, and memorable performances here at East Millbrook Academy of Arts and Design! Let’s take a look back at the highlights that have kept our campus buzzing with creativity:
6th Grade Field Trip: Science Meets Theatre
Our 6th graders embarked on an exciting field trip to the Carolina Theatre to experience Dr. Kaboom, a dynamic performance that seamlessly blended live theatre with engaging science concepts. Students were captivated by the fusion of education and entertainment, bringing classroom lessons to life in a truly unique way.
Symphony Sounds
The Band and Orchestra Guilds took a cultural journey to see the NC Symphony perform. The students were inspired by the professional musicianship and left the concert with a deeper appreciation for the power of live orchestral music.
Fall Play Success
Our Theatre Guild took the stage with their performance of Law and Order: Fairy Tale Unit. The show was a wild success, showcasing the incredible talent and dedication of our student actors. Bravo to all who made this production unforgettable!
Choral Guild Guest Clinician
Ms. Gobetz’s Choral Guild welcomed guest clinician Dr. Lisa Strutt, who provided expert guidance and fresh insights to help students prepare for their upcoming concert. This enriching experience left our singers inspired and confident in their growing vocal abilities.
Winter Concert Magic
Under the brilliant direction of Elias Gross, our Orchestra Guild presented a breathtaking winter concert. The students’ musical gifts shone brightly, leaving the audience in awe of their skill and dedication.
Dancing Drum Workshop
Coming up, our 6th graders will welcome Dancing Drum, a percussion group from Asheville, NC. This hands-on workshop will tie into their Social Studies curriculum as they explore drumming techniques, world music, and percussion skills. We can’t wait to see their creativity unfold!
Guild Arts Showcase
On December 17 and 18, our Guild arts classes will perform for the entire school, highlighting their hard work and artistic growth from the first semester. This is a must-see event that celebrates the incredible talent and dedication of our students.
Arts-Integrated Learning Across Campus
Creative learning is thriving in every corner of our school:
6th Grade Math:
Students dove into ratios and proportions by mixing paints to create their own Blue Period-inspired portraits.
8th Grade Math:
Slope concepts came to life through collaborative Stop Motion Animation projects and Adobe Express digital tools.
8th Grade Science: Students are gearing up for water and soil conservation art contests as they deepen their understanding of water quality and environmental stewardship.
