Baucom Parents & Guardians,

This is Dr. Saunders with this week’s Sunday Kickoff Message.

First up, our awesome PTA has the Spring Bargain Book Fair returning to Baucom’s Media Center this week! Please see the flyer linked HERE for all the details, including the Family Night, to shop, that we always enjoy.

Next, as most of you know by now, masks or face coverings, beginning tomorrow, will be recommended, rather than required, for anyone entering the school building. The choice to wear one or not is a personal choice made by the student and their parent or guardian. At Baucom, each individual – student and staff – will be respectful of a person’s personal choice in this matter. Again, masks are now recommended, not required, within the building, as of tomorrow.

Next tonight, I have mentioned before that schools across the country experienced quite a bit of learning loss between March of 2020 and June of 2021, thanks to the pandemic. North Carolina’s Department of Public Instruction published a nonpartisan report about the learning loss last week and, if interested, I can email you the links to their report. At Baucom, we’ve been working hard this year to makeup for the learning loss with your child. Continuing in this effort, you may see an increase with practice tasks required of your child at home. Ample time to complete these weekly practice tasks will be provided. Grades will not be given for homework, but teachers will be going over these practice problems in class. Thank you for encouraging and motivating your Aviator to complete some additional practice tasks at home between now and mid-May.

PTA has their March meeting this Tuesday night. It’s another hybrid meeting in which we’ll be meeting in a classroom across from the Bargain Book Fair, but also streaming live via the Zoom link provided. As always, it’s at 6pm.

Single Subject Acceleration, or SSA, within WCPSS is an opportunity for a student to test into the next grade-level for either math or English language arts (ELA). Only a very small handful of students qualify each year and those who typically do have been earning 4’s on their report card for the subject area being considered. Nevertheless, any student can test, if you register them the week of 3/21-25. If interested, check out the SSA webpage linked HERE for all the 2022 details.  

Lastly tonight, please note that this coming Saturday night is the time shift for Daylight Savings. We spring the clocks forward by one hour. Car rider families especially – please be ready to make the necessary adjustments for this to ensure our Aviators are all in their classrooms daily by 9:10am.

Baucom families – if you yourself have a Kindergarten-age eligible little one to register, OR if you know a neighbor or family member needing to enroll for next school year, PLEASE let them know they can connect with our Data Manager, Beverly Robinson, here at Baucom anytime. It helps us tremendously to gain Kindergarten registration sooner rather than later. For instance, the district considers the registration numbers when allotting us teacher positions for the following year. Padres y tutores de Baucom,

Este es el Dr. Saunders con el Mensaje de Lanzamiento del Domingo  de esta semana.

En primer lugar, ¡la Feria del Libro de Gangas de Primavera regresa al Centro de Medios de Baucom esta semana! Por favor, vea el folleto vinculado AQUÍ para todos los detalles, incluyendo la Noche familiar.

A continuación, se recomendarán mascarillas o cubrebocas, no obligatorios a partir de mañana. La elección de usar uno es una elección personal hecha por el estudiante y sus padres o tutores. En Baucom, todos serán respetuosos. Una vez más, las máscaras ahora se recomiendan, no se requieren, dentro del edificio, a partir de mañana.

Esta noche siguiente, he mencionado antes que las escuelas de todo el país experimentaron pérdidas de aprendizaje entre marzo de 2020 y junio de 2021 debido a la pandemia. El Departamento de Instrucción Pública de Carolina del Norte publicó un informe no partidista sobre la pérdida de aprendizaje la semana pasada. Si está interesado, puedo enviarle por correo electrónico los enlaces a su informe. En Baucom, hemos estado trabajando duro este año para compensar la pérdida de aprendizaje con su hijo. Continuando con este esfuerzo, es posible que vea un aumento con las tareas de práctica requeridas de su hijo en casa. Se proporcionará tiempo suficiente para completar estas tareas de práctica semanales. No se darán calificaciones para la tarea, pero los maestros repasarán estos problemas de práctica en clase. Gracias por alentar y motivar a su aviador a completar algunas tareas de práctica adicionales en casa entre ahora y mediados de mayo.

La PTA tiene su reunión de marzo este martes por la noche a las 6 pm. Es una reunión híbrida. Nos reuniremos en un aula frente a la Feria del Libro de Gangas, mientras que también transmitiremos en vivo a través del enlace de Zoom proporcionado.

La aceleración de una sola asignatura, o SSA, dentro de WCPSS es una oportunidad para que un estudiante se someta a pruebas en el siguiente nivel de grado para matemáticas o artes del lenguaje inglés (ELA). Solo un puñado muy pequeño de estudiantes califican cada año y aquellos que normalmente lo hacen han estado ganando 4 en su boleta de calificaciones para el área temática que se está considerando. Sin embargo, cualquier estudiante puede realizar pruebas, si los inscribe la semana del 21/3-25. Si está interesado, consulte la página web de la SSA vinculada AQUÍ para obtener todos los detalles de 2022.  

Por último, esta noche, tenga en cuenta que este próximo sábado por la noche es el cambio de hora para el horario de verano. Adelantamos los relojes una hora. Especialmente las familias de conductores de automóviles, prepárense para hacer los ajustes necesarios para esto para garantizar que nuestros aviadores estén en sus aulas todos los días a las 9:10 a.m.

Nos ayuda enormemente a obtener el registro de Kindergarten más temprano que tarde. Por ejemplo, el distrito considera los números de registro al asignarnos puestos de maestros para el año siguiente.
