Mr. Scott Chapman

My name is Scott Chapman and I am, once again, proud to be the Visual Art Teacher at Baucom Elementary School. I am entering my 27th year of teaching, 26 of those years right here at Baucom! I am originally from Buffalo, New York where I received my Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts from Fredonia State University and my Teaching Certification from Buffalo State University. I have lived in North Carolina for 27 years but always make time to visit friends and family back home once a year. My hobbies and activities (outside of teaching) include making my own personal art, home improvement work, hockey, weight lifting, and riding my motorcycle. My wife Jennifer and I have been married for 22 years. We have three children – Logan, Greyson, and Aubrey.

I have seen many changes in my time at Baucom. But the one thing that has remained the same is the excitement, drive, and determination of our talented Baucom Artists!

Mr. Mike Hosterman

Hello Baucom Families!!!  What an honor it is to be part of your child’s journey through life and education.  I have been at Baucom Elementary since 2013 and I can promise you that our school family gets more special every year! I have been teaching since 2005.  I originally started teaching near my hometown, Youngstown Ohio.  I met my wife (Diana Hosterman) at Youngstown State University as we both were in the education program.  We both were hired at Springfield Local Elementary School in Ohio and taught together in elementary school for a few very special years As Springfield Tigers!  During this time, we were engaged and married while surrounded by very special teachers and students at SLE in New Middletown, Ohio. To this day, we still enjoy attending weddings and family functions of these Ohio students that were once in our k-4 program!  In 2008, we relocated to North Carolina in hopes of helping family members with medical needs.  I taught for 5 years at Laurel Park Elementary before coming to Baucom Elementary.  My favorite thing in life is being a father to my daughters and a husband to Ms. Hosterman, who teaches 2nd grade at Baucom.  My wife and family love to attend church together and we have been learning lots and lots together at our daughter’s Fatih Formation Class.  I hope to have a positive impact on your child by bringing a sense of peace and joy to their school day.  Our focus in PE will be Kindness!  Everything that we do and learn together will be centered around being kind to others and kind to ourselves.  Parents, please email me any questions or concerns at any time!  Thank you for letting me be a part of your child’s life.  My goal is to have a positive impact on your sweet child that lasts forever!  Sincerely, Mr. Hosterman

Ms. Marissa McKinney

Hey all! My name is Marisa McKinney and I am excited for my twelfth-year teaching music! This is my fourth year as part of the Baucom Family. I was raised in North Carolina and earned my degree in Music Education from Gardner-Webb University. I love to travel and have been to eight different countries. I have two wonderful little boys, Isaac and James. In my free time I enjoy reading, playing at the pool, or playing outside with my boys. Obviously I love music and enjoy playing my Ukulele, singing, and dancing. We will be doing lots of singing, dancing and instrument playing this year. I can’t wait to start making music with everyone!

Ms. Crystal O’Mara

Hi, I'm Mrs. O'Mara (aka Captain O’Marica), the School Library Media Coordinator at Baucom Elementary. I live right here in downtown Apex with my husband, our two sons, two lovable chocolate labs, and one very lazy bearded dragon. When I’m not reading, you might find me combing the beach for hidden treasures, doing yardwork, or binge watching something mindless.

I graduated from East Carolina University (Go Pirates!) with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a minor in Psychology. I went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Lesley University. Most recently, I completed my Master’s in Library and Information Science from UNC Greensboro.

As a librarian, I have the incredible opportunity to spark curiosity, creativity, and a love of reading in our students every day. Whether I’m introducing a brand-new story or sharing a beloved classic, I love watching students connect with books and experience the emotions and wonder that reading can bring.

As students grow, I introduce them to research and inquiry skills that empower them to explore topics that interest them and express their learning through creative, hands-on projects. I believe technology is a powerful tool, but I also value a healthy balance between tech-based and traditional research methods.

In our library, we celebrate learning, imagination, and discovery. My goal is to make every student feel seen, supported, and excited to keep turning the page—both literally and figuratively.
