This is Dr. Saunders with this week’s Sunday Kickoff Message as we roll the calendar over to March!

This week, we are proud to celebrate Read Across America Week. This is an annual tradition across this great land of ours and this year’s theme is the celebration of diversity! Not only does the flyer linked HERE identify a very special book for the kids to enjoy each day, BUT each day this week, there is also a fun way for students to celebrate the day’s theme! Students tomorrow can dress in a way that shows us who they are. Maybe that involves an outfit important to your family culture or maybe it’s their sports uniform. We hope they’ll enjoy this very special week when we celebrate all the joy that comes with reading.

Next tonight, and within the same reading theme as what I just mentioned, PTA has the Spring Bargain Book Fair returning to Baucom’s Media Center next week! Please see the flyer linked HERE for all the details, including the Family Night, to shop, that we always enjoy.

Next, as most of you know by now, masks or face coverings will become optional within Wake County Public School System as of next Monday, March 7^th. At the time of this recording, at least, that was the date. Governor Cooper could potentially speed that timeline up a bit, but for now, it’s next Monday, March 7^th. Optional means that each individual within our school building or on our campus – adult or child – has the option of wearing one or not. This is not a political statement, but rather a statement of the facts of the upcoming policy shift. As it will be each individual’s right to choose, we will not tolerate any bullying among the students nor any harassment among the adults related to the choice made by an individual. Choices will go both ways with face coverings, next week and beyond, but as a Baucom community, let’s show other communities how mature we are in our co-existence with one another.

On a much lighter note, be reminded that it's  YEARBOOK purchasing season! This year’s edition is $17 and the link is in the emailed version of the message. As always, we only order a limited number, so reserve one or more for your Aviators today!

-Please, please help us contain this virus by monitoring your Aviator for COVID-like symptoms in the evenings and mornings before school. This may seem obvious and most everyone is doing a great job with this, but please DO NOT send them to school if they’re displaying any of the COVID-like symptoms. Furthermore, if you’re unsure what you should do, email our COVID Coordinator, Valerie Headlee, the teacher, and me to ask your questions. Bookmark the page because the policies get updated every so often.

 

-Did you know that Kindergarten registration for 2022-2023 is well under way? Baucom families – if you yourself have a Kindergarten-age eligible little one to register, OR if you know a neighbor or family member needing to enroll for next school year, PLEASE let them know they can connect with our Data Manager, Beverly Robinson, here at Baucom anytime. It helps us tremendously to gain Kindergarten registration sooner rather than later. For instance, the district considers the registration numbers when allotting us teacher positions for the following year. - We’ve been provided an exciting new resource to share with you all from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. The site is called Literacy at Home and it’s one of the better resources the state has ever produced for parents. The brief intro video is linked HERE and the flyer itself is HERE. The flyer will link you to the website where you’ll find at-home literacy resources for Kindergarten to 5^th grade. I really hope you’ll make use of it, remembering that our Aviators need to spend 20-30 minutes a night reading, or being read to, each and every week.

¡Este es el Dr. Saunders con el mensaje de lanzamiento del domingo de esta semana!

Esta semana, celebramos la Semana de Read Across America. ¡Esta tradición anual es la celebración de la diversidad! ¡El folleto vinculado AQUÍ identifica un libro para que los niños disfruten todos los días y comparte una forma divertida para que los estudiantes celebren el tema del día! Los estudiantes del mañana pueden vestirse de una manera que nos muestre quiénes son. Tal vez eso implica un atuendo importante para su cultura familiar o tal vez sea su uniforme deportivo. Esperamos que disfruten de esta semana especial cuando celebremos toda la alegría que viene con la lectura.

¡La próxima noche, la PTA tiene la Feria del Libro de Gangas de Primavera que regresa al Centro de Medios de Baucom la próxima semana! Por favor, vea el folleto vinculado AQUÍ para todos los detalles, incluyendo la Noche de la Familia, para comprar, que siempre disfrutamos.

A continuación, las máscaras o cubiertas faciales se convertirán en opcionales dentro del Sistema de Escuelas Públicas del Condado de Wake el próximo lunes 7 ^{de marzo}. Opcional significa que cada individuo dentro de nuestro edificio escolar o en nuestro campus tiene la opción de usar una máscara. Esta no es una declaración política, sino más bien una declaración de los hechos del próximo cambio de política. Como será el derecho de todos elegir, no toleraremos ningún acoso entre los estudiantes ni ningún acoso entre los adultos relacionado con la elección hecha por un individuo. Como comunidad Baucom, mostremos a otras comunidades lo maduros que somos en nuestra coexistencia unos con otros.

-Por favor, ayúdenos a contener este virus monitoreando a su aviador para detectar síntomas similares a COVID por las tardes y mañanas antes de la escuela. Esto puede parecer obvio y la mayoría de las personas están haciendo un gran trabajo con esto, pero por favor NO los envíe a la escuela si muestran alguno de los síntomas similares a COVID. -¿Sabías que la inscripción al Jardín de Infantes para 2022-2023 está en marcha? Familias de Baucom: si usted mismo tiene un pequeño elegible para kindergarten para registrarse, O si conoce a un vecino o miembro de la familia que necesita inscribirse para el próximo año escolar, POR FAVOR hágales saber que pueden conectarse con nuestra Gerente de Datos, Beverly Robinson, aquí en Baucom en cualquier momento. Nos ayuda enormemente a obtener el registro de Kindergarten más temprano que tarde. Por ejemplo, el distrito considera los números de registro al asignarnos puestos de maestros para el año siguiente. - Se nos ha proporcionado un nuevo y emocionante recurso para compartir con todos ustedes del Departamento de Instrucción Pública de Carolina del Norte. El sitio se llama Alfabetización en el hogar y es uno de los mejores recursos que el estado ha producido para los padres. El breve video de introducción está vinculado AQUÍ y el folleto en sí está AQUÍ. El folleto lo vinculará al sitio web donde encontrará recursos de alfabetización en el hogar para Kindergarten a 5to grado. Realmente espero que lo utilicen, recordando que nuestros aviadores necesitan pasar de 20 a 30 minutos por noche leyendo, o siendo leídos, cada semana.
