Wake County Public School System Announces New Interim Superintendent

The Wake County Board of Education is pleased to announce Dr. Randy Bridges' appointment as the new interim superintendent of the Wake County Public School System. Dr. Bridges will take office on July 1, 2023, and will serve until the board can find a permanent replacement for outgoing superintendent Ms. Catty Moore, who is retiring on June 30.

Dr. Bridges is an experienced educator and school administrator with over 40 years of experience in the education field. He has previously served as superintendent of Orange County Schools (N.C.) and Alamance-Burlington School System (N.C.). He has also worked as a classroom teacher, coach, middle and high school principal, and associate superintendent of human resources and public relations.

Dr. Bridges' appointment comes after the retirement of Superintendent Catty Moore. The Wake County Board of Education is currently searching for a permanent superintendent and expects a candidate to be selected before the start of the upcoming school year.

In the meantime, Dr. Bridges will work closely with the Board of Education to maintain the community's high education standards. His leadership will ensure a smooth transition until a permanent superintendent is hired.

"We are pleased to welcome Dr. Bridges to Wake County," said Board of Education Chair Lindsay Mahaffey. "His extensive experience will be invaluable to us as we keep our strategic plan's priorities and goals on track through this transition."

The WCPSS community welcomes Dr. Bridges and looks forward to his leadership.
