MECME Families,

 

We hope you are enjoying a beautiful weekend! As a reminder, we have Spring Break from 4/11 – 4/15, and there will not be a principal message on 4/10 or 4/17. Because of that, I’ve included several important updates in this week’s message, including EOG test dates and our next family event. We look forward to a great week of school this week and wish you a restful Spring Break. And I can’t help myself - Go Tar Heels!

 

EOG Schedule – End of Grade tests in math and reading for students in 3rd through 5th grades (and science for 5th grade only) will start at the end of May. Please see the test schedule below. It is important that students are present on test days to avoid the need to make-up the test at a later date.

  • Friday, 5/27 – 5th Science
  • Monday, 5/30 - Holiday
  • Tuesday, 5/31 – 3rd Reading
  • Wednesday, 6/1 – 4th Math, 5th Math
  • Thursday, 6/2 – 3rd Math
  • Friday, 6/3 – 4th Reading, 5th Reading

 

Panorama Survey – Please look for a link or paper copy (both will be available) of the annual Panorama Family Survey starting on Monday, 4/4. Your responses are valuable in helping us improve our work and relationships with families. We would love to see at least 90% of families complete this survey. Thank you in advance for your participation!

 

Update Contact Information – If you have recently changed your phone number or email address, please take a few minutes to call the school (919) 850-8700 so that we can update that in our system to ensure you are connected to messages and we can reach you in the event of an emergency.

 

Earth Week Family Celebration - Join us for our Earth Week family celebration, Family Park Day on Saturday, April 23, from 10am-12pm at Millbrook Exchange Park! We will play on the playground, have snacks and popsicles, and enjoy being out in nature together. We hope to see you there!

NC Science Festival - The North Carolina Science Festival, a month-long event featuring hundreds of educational activities, takes place in April! It's easy to search the N.C. Science Festival website, filtering by location, in-person or virtual, and topic, to find events across the state and in the Triangle.

 

One of the festival's highlights is its statewide Star Parties, or star viewing events. This year, there will be 39 star parties taking place across the state on April 8th and April 9th. There are more than 300 events available to the public during the month of April, but some neat local choices include:

 

Statewide Star Party at the Prairie Ridge Ecostation in Raleigh (April 8th), Electric Engineering class at Marble's Kids Museum, where kids can build a battery out of a potato to power up lights (April 11th, April 13th, April 15th) and, Tinkering for Tomorrow at the N.C. Zoo in Asheboro.

 

Most events are free, although some require paid tickets or registration. All the details are online.

 

The N.C. Science Festival is presented by the Biogen Foundation and produced by Morehead Planetarium and Science Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

 

At-home COVID Tests – Families can order free at home COVID tests by visiting https://www.covidtests.gov/. If you have already ordered four, you can now order four more.

¡Esperamos que estés disfrutando de un hermoso fin de semana! Como recordatorio, tenemos vacaciones de primavera del 4/11 al 4/15, y no habrá un mensaje principal el 4/10 o el 4/17. Debido a eso, he incluido varias actualizaciones importantes en el mensaje de esta semana, incluidas las fechas de las pruebas EOG y nuestro próximo evento familiar. Encuesta Panorama – Por favor busque un enlace o copia en papel (ambos estarán disponibles) de la Encuesta Familiar Panorama anual a partir del lunes, 4/4. Sus respuestas son valiosas para ayudarnos a mejorar nuestro trabajo y nuestras relaciones con las familias. El Festival de Ciencia de Carolina del Norte - ¡El Festival de Ciencia de Carolina del Norte, un evento de un mes de duración con cientos de actividades educativas, se lleva a cabo en abril! Es fácil buscar en el sitio web del Festival de Ciencia de N.C., filtrando por ubicación, en persona o virtual, y tema, para encontrar eventos en todo el estado y en el Triángulo.

 

Uno de los aspectos más destacados del festival son sus Star Parties en todo el estado, o eventos de visualización de estrellas. Este año, habrá 39 fiestas estelares que se llevarán a cabo en todo el estado el 8 y 9 de abril.
