The Truth About IB!
Myth:
Students who join the IB Diploma Programme have straight As and have all taken AP classes.
In fact:
It is true that the Diploma Programme attracts students who have thus far achieved high levels of academic success and who have pushed themselves to take rigorous courses. But students who join the Diploma Programme have a variety of academic backgrounds with varying GPAs and about half who have not taken any AP courses prior to joining the DP.
The goal of the Diploma Programme at Millbrook is to take a student from where they are and challenge them, helping them to grow and develop the skills that will help them when they leave here. All students can benefit from that opportunity, regardless of where they are. As with any task, more preparation is helpful, but when a student is ready to challenge themselves, build grit and perseverance, and take advantage of the opportunity our Diploma Programme offers, we welcome their participation!
Calling all Millbrook Artists
The Millbrook Baccalaureate Committee is seeking artwork for the 2020 Baccalaureate program. Interested students should submit their artwork by midnight on March 3rd to Lizcrute@gmail.com for consideration. Baccalaureate is a student led Christian service of music, scripture, and words of reflection to honor and celebrate our graduating Seniors.
Academic Celebration in April
Save the Date! Academic Celebration-April 29th and 30th
Millbrook’s annual Academic Celebration honors students with an unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher for the first three quarters of the 2019-20 school year.* The celebration begins in the auditorium with a brief assembly and recognition of students by school administrators. A breakfast follows with food donated from local businesses such as Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, Waffle House and IHOP. During the breakfast gift certificates to local businesses are raffled by a few of our awesome Millbrook teachers.
*This is a Millbrook celebration organized and provided by the PTSA and is different than Wake County A/AB Honor Roll recognition.

(REPEAT) Black History Month & MHS Evening Event - Feb. 19
Starting in 1926 as “Negro History Week” and expanding to Black History Month in 1970, February has traditionally been a time where Americans explore, discuss and appreciate the various contributions and achievements of African Americans. These contributions and achievements are essential to our nation’s history and social fabric. At Millbrook, we work to ensure all students feel their experiences, culture, and world-views are shared and celebrated. Black History Month is a great opportunity to put these words into action.
Last year, the Humanities Department had its students participate in creating a "Legacy Museum" which highlighted and celebrated prominent African American achievements and personalities. The Department will continue this project for Black History Month 2020.
This year, the Humanities Department, partnering with the PTSA, is excited to host an event celebrating Black History Month. On the night of February 19th, Millbrook will host an evening performance with award-winning, internationally known storyteller, spoken word recording artist, and author Donna Washington. The event with Ms. Washington will start at 6:30 pm. The performance will be held in the auditorium and also feature a performance from the Millbrook Step Team. The Black Legacy Museum will also be on display for attendees. Ms. Washington will also do four students shows that day.
For more information on Donna Washington, visit her website: https://dlwstoryteller.com/bio/

La verdad sobre el IB!
Mito:
