Friendly Reminder: AM drop off

Over the past few weeks, we have noticed an uptick in the number of students who are being dropped off or allowed out of cars prior to 8:45 AM.  As a friendly reminder, students should not be dropped off in the parking lot or leave your car to stand at the front door prior to the 8:45 bell. We do not have staff on duty before 8:45am and students being outside unattended is a safety concern. Please share this message with anyone who may share AM drop off duties.  *Note: The only exception to this rule is safety patrol students who enter the building at 8:35 AM to prepare for their shift.

EOG Remediation and Retesting

Students in grades 3-5 will take the EOG State Test at the end of this school year.  Should your child meet the criteria for our EOG Remediation and Readministration program, you will receive an invitation for your child to attend the program after the EOG testing occurs for each track.  Transportation will be provided, and breakfast and lunch will be available.

EOG Remediation and Retesting Dates:  Tr 1 (June 5 and June 7)   Trks 2,3,4 (June 29-30)

Not Returning for 2023-2024?

If plans for the '23-24 school year have changed and your child will no longer attend Sanford Creek for the coming school year, please notify the front office ASAP.  (919-570-2100) or (amalarchuk@wcpss.net)

'23-24 Before/Afterschool Care Program Change

At this time, we are able to offer Before School Care; however, we will not have an After School Care Program in 2023-2024. We have been unable to secure staffing for the PM program.

Parents currently in the Before Care program received an email from Barbara Wojcik asking them to indicate whether or not they would be taking advantage of Before School Care beginning July 17th.  We are offering current families registration seats first.  If you are not currently in Before School Care but anticipate registering for '23-24, please reach out to the coordinator, Barbara Wojcik (bwojcik@wcpss.net).

Before School Care for ’23-24 will begin Monday, July 17.

Bus Transportation for 2023-2024

WCPSS Transportation is preparing for the next school year. Please read all of the important information below.

View your student’s 2023-24 Transportation status via your student’s Homebase/Powerschool account via an internet browser (not all tabs show on the app). Need an Account? Sign up by contacting Lyndi Malarchuk (919-570-2100) or stop by the front office if you happen to be in the building.  More information on Home Base is available at www.wcpss.net/student-information.

Your student’s AM and/or PM transportation codes will display “Y” (yes) or “N” (no) for the 2023-24 school year until routes are posted. Routes are usually posted about 10 days before the start of the school year.

  • If your student’s code is “Y” and your student will be using transportation next school year, no action is required.
  • If your student’s code is “N” and you would like for your student to use transportation next school year, please submit a transportation request.
  • If your student’s code is “Y” and your student will not be using transportation next school year, please submit the decline bus form at www.wcpss.net/declinebus.

If you need further assistance with bus service, contact our Assistant Principal, Gladys Washington, gwashington@wcpss.net or 919-570-2100.

Transportation Request Deadlines

If you are not currently registered for transportation but would like service next school year, you must request transportation by May 31 to ensure service on the first day. Please only request service if you plan for your student to be a regular rider. Students who don’t ride consistently will be removed from bus rosters. To register, go to www.wcpss.net/busrider.

Start of Year and Meet the Teacher

Sanford Creek will not hold a "Meet the Teacher" event prior to the start of the '23-24 school year.  Why the change? Teachers are moving into year 2 of the state mandated, Science of Reading (LETRS) professional learning. The graduate level course work is rigorous and good, but it requires teachers to use their workdays differently.  That said, we've shifted some of our "clopening" (close of '22-23 and opening of '23-24) events in an effort to better maximize the short turn-around time in school years.  We know this is a major shift from years past, but have no fear - we've got you covered!

SCE families (current and incoming) will have all of the information needed to ensure your child has a successful start to the new school year. OPEN HOUSE will occur within the first 10 days of the school year for all tracks.

Teacher Assignments for current and returning students will be included in the fourth quarter report card.

The following information will be sent home the week of May 30th:

  • Grade Level Supply Lists for 2023-2024
  • Sign up for a carpool tag (if needed)
  • New for '23-24: Sign up for a walker tag (if needed)
  • Bus service registration and link for '23-24 bus routes
  • Process for creating/adding money to your child's breakfast & lunch account
  • A link to connect with the school nurse about Health Care Plans, Medications and Allergies
  • Before School Care program registration (for families not currently in the program)
  • PTA information
  • Open House dates and times for each track
  • Specific grade level beginning of year info (daily schedule, curriculum content, student/parent handbook, contact information for instructional support staff, virtual tours to watch, and more)

School Lunch Price Increase for '23-24

At elementary schools, full-paid lunches will increase 25 cents to $3.25. The price increase is necessary to cover increased food and supply costs.

Breakfast prices are not increasing. Full-paid breakfast will remain $1.50 at elementary schools. The meal prices remain reasonable compared to other school systems in North Carolina.
