Single Subject Acceleration (SSA) is the practice of assigning a student to a higher-grade level than is typical, given the student's age, for the purpose of providing access to appropriately challenging learning opportunities. SSA is an accelerative practice that allows students to show mastery of the content of a course without having taken the course.
Single Subject Acceleration (SSA): Each Spring, parents have an opportunity to nominate students (grades 1-5 only) for Single Subject Acceleration. Students are then tested in the Spring of the previous school year for an accelerated placement for the upcoming school year. None of this happened because of school closure.
During the first 10 days of school (Aug 17 - Aug 28), Ms. Garland is accepting SSA Request to Test for students who are working 1-2 grade levels above their current classmates in one subject area. This form must be submitted by a parent. Please note that your child will be testing to skip an entire grade level of curriculum/instruction in one subject area. This year, due to Covid-19, qualifying students will begin instruction in the new grade/subject by Week 7. This may require parental assistance with missed concepts.
If you have already submitted a Request to Test form, you do not need to submit again. Testing will take place between August 31 and September 30. Ms. Garland will contact you to schedule.
