Single Subject Acceleration
SSA allows students to show mastery of content in select elementary or middle school courses. Students who prove mastery do not have to take the course and may move on to the next level.
Parents may nominate their child to skip a grade level of content in either English Language Arts or mathematics.
Students are nominated for SSA by their parents or guardians. They will be assessed at their school based upon grade level. Depending on grade level and subject, this could include a multiple-choice test and/or a writing sample.
Parents may nominate students for this accelerative practice ONLY within specified windows. Nomination forms may be obtained on this page or in the front office beginning April 1, 2019. The nomination window for SSA testing for the 2019-2020 school year is April 23, 2019, to May 6, 2019. Nominations may be submitted, during the nomination window only, to the front office or to Ms. Owens electronically at email@example.com. Parents/guardians will receive a confirmation e-mail from Ms. Owens once their child's nomination has been received. Nominations will not be accepted outside the announced window.
Testing for appropriately-nominated students will take place following the nomination window.
Accelerative services for students who qualify begin at the start of the following school year.
Students who do not meet the criteria, who transfer to WCPSS after the testing window, or who are nominated after the nomination window has closed will not be accelerated.
