    Good evening,

This is Becky Foote, principal of Bugg Magnet Center for Design and Computer Sciences, with our weekly message for all families.   This message will also be posted on our website.

I hope you have enjoyed the three day weekend including today’s holiday celebrating the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  We are excited to be back to school tomorrow, focused on reading, writing, math, and science, as we work to build scholars each day.

This is one more reminder the magnet application period is open for all WCPSS students.  All 5th graders who would like to attend a magnet middle school next year must complete the application available online. If your child is a 5th grader with magnet status who wants  to attend Martin Middle next year, please let Ms. McNeill know so she can assist you. Parents of students in any grade, if you have questions about the magnet application process, please contact Ms. McNeill and she will be happy to help.

We are currently giving mid-year literacy assessments (mClass) to all students in grades K-5.    Please continue to read with your child daily, to assist him/her with homework, and to encourage him/her to give their best effort each day.  Their academic growth is very important to us and we appreciate your partnership in this.

In addition, students in grades 3-5 will begin mid-year Case 21 assessments on Friday.  We are excited to see their growth this quarter!

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership as we work together to redesign learning for every child in our community!

    Have a great week!

    Becky Foote

    Good evening,

This is Becky Foote, principal of Bugg Magnet Center for Design and Computer Sciences, with our weekly message for all families.   This message will also be posted on our website.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends.  We are very excited to have the children return to school tomorrow.

Please remember to have your child read every night and record their reading on their reading logs. Please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher if you need additional reading logs.  All students will be given an opportunity at school to enter this information into the READvolution website.  This initiative, a partnership between WCPSS and  the Carolina Hurricanes, reinforces the importance of reading at home.  Further incentives and activities to align with this will be shared soon, as our school will have school-wide focus on reading, both in school and at home, from now until the December Winter Break!

Next week, December 4-8, is Computer Science Education week.  We are thrilled to partner with one of our corporate partners, SAS, to provide exciting opportunities to highlight coding and computational thinking across the curriculum.   On Thursday, December 7, we will hold our Computer Science Showcase for all students, family members, and prospective magnet families, from 5:30 - 7:00 PM.  We hope you will join us!

I want to remind everyone that students need to be in school all day every day (by  9:10 AM  - 3:40 PM) in order to maximize instruction time and learning.  Excessive tardies, absences, and early check outs have a negative impact on student growth over time.  Please reach out to Ms. Freeman or Ms. Turner if you need assistance with attendance issues.

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership as we work together to redesign learning for every child in our community!

    Have a great week!

    Becky Foote

Thank you to all carpool drivers for your patience as we made adjustments last week due to interior painting.  We especially appreciate your continued flexibility in the afternoons. The fresh coat of paint and the new colors  look beautiful!

    Weekly parent message:

    November 12,  2017

    Good evening,

This is Becky Foote, principal of Bugg Magnet Center for Design and Computer Sciences, with our weekly message for all families.   This message will also be posted on our website.

We had a very successful picture day last week. Students looked wonderful, and I am sure we will see some beautiful pictures.  A make-up day will be scheduled soon for those who may have missed it.

We will begin holding tours this week for prospective families. Please help spread the word and encourage interested families to sign up online for a tour highlighting our new Design and Computer Science theme.

Also, this week, on Saturday, Marbles Kids Museum is holding an event called Kids Code.  This event showcases coding for kids as a fun way to solve problems.  Please visit the Marbles website for more information about the event, times, and admission fees.

I want to make sure that all families are aware that we have a food pantry on campus this year.  Please reach out to our social worker, Ms. Tanya Turner, if you or someone you know may benefit from this.  We are here to help.

This 5-day week provides an important time for learning and hard work.  Our students must give their best effort and display their best behavior  to enable all students to focus on learning.  We ask for your support at home as well, assisting students with homework and ensuring students come to school every day, all day.  All students can access iStation at home.  This is a great way for children to review important math and reading standards. Please contact your child’s teacher if you wish to discuss additional ways to help at home.

Thank you for your partnership as we work together to redesign learning for every child in our community!

    Have a great week!

    Becky Foote
