    Weekly Memo:  Good evening Silver Hawk families, this is Principal Carter Hillman with your Weekly Memo:

    • All information provided in this Memo is posted on the VMCCA website under the “Principal’s Message.”
    • Seniors and their Parents:  FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is now open to students and their parents.  Both the student and parent need a FSA ID (Federal Student Aid ID).  Need help/have questions:  Contact our Financial Aid Advisor, Audrey Lee at anlee@wcpss.net 
    • Parents and Students:  All students will be in mandatory Hawks Nest from Tuesday, December 10th through Friday, December 13th to prepare for fall semester final exams.
    • Parents: Final exams will be the week of December 16th through the 20th.  A schedule for final exams will be posted on the VMCCA website after Thanksgiving break.
    • Parents: Students will receive Final Exam Parent Permission forms tomorrow, Monday, December 2nd.  These forms allow your student(s) to leave school early after morning exams if they do not have an afternoon exam.  Without a signed form, parents will need to check students out of school In Person.  The deadline for Parent Permission forms is this Friday, December 13th.  Extra forms can be found in the main office. 
    • Senior and Senior Parents: The Senior exemption policy for final exams for non-state required courses is as follows:  Any senior with an A or B average and ten or fewer absences will be exempt from teacher-made exams.  The state requires seniors to take CTE and EOC final exams.

    • Seniors and their Parents:  One important key to financial aid and scholarships is the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).  FAFSA opens Sunday, December 1st.  Both the student and parent need a FSA ID (Federal Student Aid ID).  Get those FSA IDs now so you'll be ready December 1st!  Need help/have questions:  Contact our Financial Aid Advisor, Audrey Lee at Anlee@wcpss.net 
    • Ninth grade parents: This Tuesday, November 19, 9th grade students currently enrolled in Healthful Living will participate in the Human Trafficking Safety and Awareness lesson during class. Students received a parent information form in their Healthful Living class on Friday, November 8. If you do not wish for your student to participate in this lesson, please email VMCCA administration no later than tomorrow, Monday, November 18. Please reach out to our Student Services team with any questions.
    • Parents: Your student has a little over three weeks left of the fall semester prior to final exams.  This is a great time to review PowerSchool grades with your student.

      Parents and Students: Please note a change to Hawks Nest school policy.  Students who are failing a class or classes with a grade below 50 due to missing work will be assigned to a required ALC Hawks Nest daily until all assignments have been completed or the student is passing the class.  The exception to this policy is if students are missing tests.  ALC Hawks Nest will go into effect at the end of the four-week mark of each quarter.  For this quarter it will begin tomorrow Monday, November 4th.

    • Parents and Students: The VMCCA National Honor Society is spearheading a donation drive for the people affected by Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina. We have identified a school in Old Fort.  NHS is partnering with our VMCCA students & staff, as well as coordinating this effort with all the NHS chapters in WCPSS who wish to join us. The following items can be dropped off until Thursday, October 31st: BLANKETS: Blankets should be donated along with laundry detergent; TOWELS: Towels/handtowels/washcloths should be donated along with soap/shampoo, and STUFFED ANIMALS. 
    • The VMCCA PTSA is partnering with Panic Point in Youngsville. Anyone who buys a ticket online and uses the promo code “VMCCA” at checkout will get 10% off their tickets. The link to the website is: https://raleighhauntedhouse.com

    Sophomore Parents and Students:  All sophomores will take the PreACT next Wednesday, October 23rd during the morning hours.  This is a practice ACT for all tenth-grade students to prepare them for taking the ACT during their junior year.

    Seniors and their Parents: CFNC Countdown to College FREE Application Week.  Next week (10/21-10/26) this list of colleges are waiving their application fees.  Students MUST apply during with week through the CFNC website.

    • Freshmen Parents: This Tuesday, October 15th, ninth-grade students currently enrolled in Healthful Living will participate in the Signs of Suicide lesson during class. Last week on Tuesday, October 8th, students received a parent information letter and an opt-out form in their Healthful Living class. If you do not wish for your student to participate in this lesson, please sign and return the opt-out form to the main office tomorrow, Monday, October 14th. Please reach out to Tracy Taylor at ttaylor5@wcpss.net with any questions.
    • Freshman and Junior Parents and Students:  All freshmen and junior students will take the PSAT this Wednesday, October 16th during the morning hours.  This is a practice SAT for these students. 
      VMCCA will celebrate its ten-year anniversary with an alumni event on Saturday, October 19th from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.  All are welcome.

    • Attention Juniors: Are you ready for the experience of a lifetime? Apply for NC Governor’s School - a four-week summer residential program for academically talented high school students. Learn new concepts in engaging classes and seminars without the pressure of grades and tests. Check your student email for more info. Sign up for an information session by scanning the QR code on the flyers posted around the school.
    • Freshmen and Junior Parents and Students:  All freshmen and junior students will take the PSAT next Wednesday, October 16th during the morning hours.  This is a practice SAT for these students. 
      Students: Please join your VMCCA family for the Walk for Hope this Sunday, Oct. 13th beginning at 9:30 AM at the Angus Barn.  The Walk for Hope is this year's service learning project and supports mental health research in our area. Please bring a pair of gloves and any tools you'd like!  We will also host a carwash during the morning to benefit our schoolwide service-learning project, the Walk for Hope.
