    Weekly Memo:  Good evening Silver Hawk families, this is Principal Carter Hillman with your Weekly Memo:

    • All information provided in this Memo is posted on the VMCCA website under the “Principal’s Message.”

    • Students: The VMCCA Spring Dance will be a Valentine's Dance for ALL grades to take place Friday, February 10th  in the VMCCA gym from 7:00 to 10:00 PM. The price per ticket (advanced sales only) is $5.00 per student. Students can purchase dance tickets online now through Friday, February 10th at noon.  Cash sales for tickets will be available during lunch in the cafe from Monday, February 6th through Friday, February 10th.  A Hot Dog Dinner is being offered by the PTSA for $5.00 in advance or $7.00 at the door.  Dinner tickets can be purchased during lunch or online via the PTSA site.

    • Students and Parents:  This year, Valentines can also be pre-ordered online. Get your orders in early from the links on the PTSA page on the VMCCA website. Or students can purchase personalized Valentine-O-Grams for $3 - $5 (cash only) in the cafe during lunch from Monday, February 6th through Friday, February 10th.  They will be delivered on Tuesday, February 14th to classmates during first period classes. Parents can also purchase Valentine-O-Grams for their child via the PTSA website the week of February 6th through the 10th.

    • Hoodies are back! Supplies are limited, so grab one while you can. You can order online, or pick one up from the campus store at lunchtime on Fridays. The link is on the PTSA page on the VMCCA website.

    • Students and Parents:  Registration for the 23-24 school year is upon us.  Please check out registration resources and information on the VMCCA Student Services website under “Students”, “Student Services” “Registration 23-24”.  Student Services will be working with students in February to select classes for the 23-24 school year.

    • Hawks Nest begins this week for students who are struggling with course content.

    • Seniors and Senior Parents: Please mark the following three dates in the spring for key senior events:  Monday, May 15th is Senior Awards Night from 6:00 to 7:30 PM.  Seniors will need to arrive at 5:00 PM.  Tuesday, May 23rd is Graduation Practice at Meymandi Hall from 8:30 to 10:30 AM.  And Wednesday, May 24th is the VMCCA Graduation Ceremony, starting at 12:00 noon at Meymandi Hall.

    • There will be no school tomorrow, Monday, January 16th for students and staff due to the Martin Luther King Jr. National holiday.  The building will not be opened on that day.

    • Parents: All students received their first semester report cards last week on Tuesday, January 10th.  If you have not seen your student’s report card, please speak to them.  You can contact the main office if a report card has been lost.

    • We would like to welcome all students returning to school for the 2023 spring semester.  We had a great first couple days of returning.

    • Please join us in congratulating the Nurse Aide Seniors in a 100% pass rate for the Written and Skills Exam for Nurse Aide I.  This accomplishment has not been achieved for VMCCA since 2016.  These students have worked hard and we are very proud of them. 

    • Attention Senior and Junior Parents: Josten’s will be on campus this Wednesday, January 11th, during lunches to take Cap & Gown orders for Seniors and class rings for Juniors.  These students received information packets from Jostens last week.

    • Parents: The VMCCA Spring Open House will be this Thursday, January 12th, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.  After a brief general session, parents will follow their student’s schedule to meet with each of their student’s teachers.

    • There will be no school next Monday, January 16th for students and staff due to the Martin Luther King Jr. National holiday.  The building will not be opened on that day.

    • Parents: Please keep in mind that VMCCA can be a cold building.  Please remind your student to dress warmly.  We will no longer allow students to carry / wear blankets in the building.  If your student is in need of warmer clothing, please have them contact their school counselor.

    • Parents: Final exams will finish this week with EOC exams.  Only students who have these EOC exams should attend school.  Monday, December 19th, is the English II EOC and Tuesday, December 20th are the Math I and Math III EOCs.  Wednesday morning, December 21st is a makeup Exam day.  Students should contact their teacher(s) to set up a time in the morning to make up their exam(s). The schedule can be found on the main page of the school’s website or on the Principal Message page Final Exam

    • Students and Parents: Student Council is sponsoring a children's book and toy drive for the holiday season.  Students and staff are encouraged to donate new or slightly used books and toys for young children.  The holiday drive will run through this Tuesday, December 20th.

    • Parents: The VMCCA PTSA is announcing its No-Fuss Fundraiser. A no-fuss fundraiser means there is nothing to sell and 100% of the money raised goes directly to the school. Students received a flyer during homeroom about how to participate in the fundraiser, or see the fundraiser link on the PTSA page on the VMCCA website.

    • Winter Break for students and staff will begin Thursday, December 22nd, and will continue through Monday, January 2nd.  Wake County has also provided two teacher workdays on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 3rd and 4th.  Students will return for second semester classes on Thursday, January 5th. 

    • Parents: Upon your student returning to school, please keep in mind that VMCCA can be a cold building.  Please remind your student to dress warmly.  We will no longer allow students to carry / wear blankets in the building.  If your student is in need of warmer clothing, please have them contact their school counselor.

    • Students: The Silver Hawks Campus Store is finally OPEN! Every Friday during lunch, students can drop by to buy spirit gear, supplies, and other fun things. The campus store accepts cash and cards. There is also a supply of free stress-relief coloring pages and crayons for anyone who wants one.

    • Students: Mandatory Hawks Nest will continue this week; Monday, December 12th is for second period classes; Tuesday, December 13th for third period; and Wednesday, December 14th for fourth period.

    • Parents: Students received a Final Exam Parent Permission form last Friday in order to leave school early after morning exams, if they do not have an afternoon exam.  Without a signed form, parents will need to check students out of school In Person.  The deadline for Parent Permission forms is this Wednesday, December 14th.  Extra forms can be found in the main office. 

    • Students and Parents: Student Council is sponsoring a children's book and toy drive for the holiday season.  Students and staff are encouraged to donate new or slightly used books and toys for young children.  The holiday drive will begin tomorrow, Monday, December 12th and will run through Tuesday, December 20th.

    • Students: VMCCA will be celebrating the upcoming holiday with holiday theme days.  Monday, December 12th will be Holiday Hat day; Tuesday, December 13th will be Holiday Sleep Pant Day; and Wednesday, December 14th will be Ugly Sweater Day.  We hope everyone joins in on the celebration.

    • Students:  Awesome job from the students and staff at VMCCA during the recent Canned Food Drive.  Over 700 cans were collected for a local food bank.  VMCCA really stepped up to help the community through its generosity.  Great work, Silver Hawks!

    • Parents: VMCCA Student Council’s annual Canned Food Drive ends Tuesday, November 22nd.  They will be accepting canned and non-perishable items.  STUCO will have grade level boxes made up and out in the atrium.  There will also be a drop-off during carpool in the mornings.  The grade level with the most contributions will receive an ice cream party during lunch. All donations will support our local Wake County food bank.

    • Parents: There will be no school for students and staff from Wednesday, November 23rd through Friday, November 25th due to the Thanksgiving holiday.  The building will be closed for business during those days.

    • Parents: Final exams begin on Thursday, December 15th.  Students have three weeks remaining in the semester.  Please take this opportunity to review and discuss your student’s PowerSchool grades.

    Weekly Memo:  Good evening Silver Hawk families, this is Principal Carter Hillman with your Weekly Memo:

    • We would like to congratulate our own Ms. Browder, who was elected as Vernon Malone’s Teacher of the Year.  She will now represent our school for the Wake County Teacher of the Year selection later this school year.

    • Sophomore Parents and Students:  All 10th grade students will take the PreACT on Tuesday, November 15th. While PreACT scores do not impact a student's grade, they do provide a free opportunity to experience what the ACT will be like when students take it in their junior year. It is an excellent practice test and they will receive detailed score reports to help prepare for the ACT. The test will take place during the school day during 1st and 2nd periods. 

    • Parents: Students have four weeks remaining in the first semester before we get to final exams. Several of these weeks are shortened due to teacher workdays and holidays.  Final exams begin on Thursday, December 15th.  Please take this opportunity to review and discuss your student’s PowerSchool grades.

    • Parents: There will be no school for students and staff from Wednesday, November 23rd through Friday, November 25th due to the Thanksgiving holiday.  The building will be closed for business during those days.
