- Parents: Students received a letter regarding the Behavior Intervention Monitoring Assessment System-2 (BIMAS-2). Teachers will complete this universal screener of social, emotional & behavioral health for each student in their 4th period classes. If you review the letter and do not want your child to participate, please return the opt out form to the front office no later than this Friday, October 10th.
- Students: VMCCA in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month has scheduled a Spirit Week October 13th through October 17th. Please see the school calendar located near the cafeteria for daily themes.
- VMCCA PTSA would like to remind everyone of the upcoming events. Panic Point - September 20th through November 1st. Walk for Hope - October 12th. Please go to the VMCCA website and visit PTSA section under Family Support for more information and how to get involved.
- Parents and Students: There will be no school for students this Monday and Tuesday, October 6th and 7th, due to WCPSS Teacher Workdays. The school will be closed to business on Tuesday, October 7th. The first day of the second quarter will begin on Wednesday, October 8th.
- Seniors/Senior Parents: Free College Application Week is from October 20-26. During this week students can apply to college for free at cfnc.org. In preparation for this week, please complete your student’s RDS (Residency Determination Service) also through CFNC.
- Seniors/Senior Parents: The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is OPEN. Need help/have questions? Contact our Financial Aid Advisor, Audrey Lee, at anlee@wcpss.net.
- Carpool Parents: We are asking that you please do not drop off or pick up your students in the visitors' parking area. We have had several near-miss accidents with students attempting to cross the street. We have many inexperienced drivers as learners-permit students who are driving to and from school. Driving around the loop takes an extra 20 seconds. Students can be dropped off anywhere along the sidewalk on the side of the school, not just at the front.

Please note, there will be no school for students on Monday and Tuesday, October 6th and 7th, due to WCPSS Teacher Workdays. The first day of the second quarter will begin on Wednesday, October 8th.

- AP Parents and Students: VMCCA was informed last week that students will NOT need to pay for AP Exams this school year. Due to this shift, all students taking an AP course(s) will be required to take AP exam(s) for each course(s) in which they participate.
- Attention Juniors: Are you ready for the experience of a lifetime? Apply for NC Governor’s School - a four-week summer residential program for academically talented high school students. Learn new concepts in engaging classes and seminars without the pressure of grades and tests. Check your student email for more information. There will be an information session in the CCC this Wednesday, September 17th, during the first half of lunch. Interested students should attend. Reach out to Ms. Davidson if you have questions.
- Parents and Students: There will be no school for students this Tuesday, September 23rd due to a WCPSS Teacher Workday.

- Freshmen Parents: This Thursday, September 18th, ninth graders currently enrolled in Healthful Living will participate in the Signs of Suicide lesson during class. A parent letter and opt out form was sent home on September 5th. If you do not want your student to participate, please return the signed form to the main office no later than this Tuesday, September 16th. - Sophomore and Junior Parents: Your students received an email on September 4th with information about registering to take the PSAT at VMCCA on Thursday, October 30. If your student would like to register, please read all the information carefully and use the link in the email to reserve a seat. Cost information is also in the email. Registration closes this Friday, September 19th, and no late test registrations will be accepted.
- Freshmen Parents: All ninth graders will take the PSAT on Thursday, October 30th. They will automatically be registered, and VMCCA will cover the cost of the test for each freshman student.
Parents: There will be no school for students on Tuesday, September 23rd due to a WCPSS Teacher Workday. - For any families interested in applying for Free or Reduced meals, applications are available in the front office, or you can apply online at: myschoolbucks.com.

- For any families interested in applying for Free or Reduced meals, applications are available in the front office, or you can apply online at: myschoolbucks.com.
- Parents: Please note that requests for an excused absence for educational leave will not be approved unless it is a college visit or as an authentic educational experience, for example, acting as a page for the NC legislature. A personal vacation will not be considered an excused absence for educational leave.

- Parents and Students: A reminder that VMCCA has a dress code that will be enforced should students choose to wear clothing that is not appropriate for the dress code.
- For any families interested in applying for Free or Reduced meals, applications are available in the front office or you can apply online at: myschoolbucks.com.
- Parents: Please note that requests for an excused absence for educational leave will not be approved unless it is a college visit or as an authentic educational experience, for example acting as a page for the NC legislature. A personal vacation will not be considered an excused absence for educational leave.

- Carpool parents: A reminder that students are not to be dropped off or picked up in the back of the building, only on the side of the building. Students should not be crossing traffic during afternoon pickup, but need to wait until their car is along the school sidewalk.

VMCCA had a fantastic first week of school. Thank you to all the students who returned to school with energy and enthusiasm. - Carpool parents: A reminder that students are not to be dropped off or picked up in the back of the building, only on the side of the building.
- Parents and Students: The VMCCA Fall Open House is this Thursday, August 14th, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. Mrs. Gina Beaudry, the Wake Tech liaison will be leading a session for Junior parents in the media center from 6:00 to 6:30 PM as an introduction to Wake Tech classes.
- Parents: The PTSA is leading the first open meeting of the year on August 14th from 5:30 to 6:00 PM before the Fall Open House for any interested parents. You do not have to be a current member to attend this meeting. Come meet the PTSA officers and learn about what the PTSA does to support the school, you and your students.
- Seniors: The Fall Senior Breakfast is scheduled for Friday, August 22nd at the beginning of school.

Opening Day | August 4
Posted by Carter Hillman on 8/4/2025Opening Day Memo: Good evening Silver Hawk families; this is Principal Carter Hillman with an Opening Day Memo as we prepare for the start of the 2025-26 school year:
- All information provided in this Memo is posted on the VMCCA website under the “Principal’s Message.” For any information concerning hyperlinks or forms, please visit the VMCCA website.
- Tomorrow, August 5th is the first day of school for all VMCCA students, from 7:25 AM to 2:18 PM. For parents dropping off students, the carpool is located on the right side of the building when facing the front of the school. Please do not drop your student(s) off before 6:55 AM. Students may be dropped off or picked up after school all along the sidewalk on the side of the building. Students will report to their homeroom class before being released to their first-period classes.
- In response to the NC legislator and WCPSS policy, VMCCA has a new school-wide phone and electronic policy that impacts students’ use of cell phones, headphones, earbuds, etc. Please be certain to review and be familiar with this policy, VMCCA Electronic Device Policy. Please note this policy impacts the use of headphones and earbuds in the building. Also, students must use their WCPSS-issued Chromebook as they are no longer allowed to use personal laptops. If your student does not have a WCPSS-issued Chromebook, or it has been damaged or lost, your student will need to contact Jill Ray, our school Media Coordinator immediately. Incoming freshmen students will receive their Chromebook during the first week of school.
