    Weekly Memo:  Good evening Silver Hawk families, this is Principal Carter Hillman with your Weekly Memo:

    • All information provided in this Memo is posted on the VMCCA website under the “Principal’s Message.”
    • Parents:  All teachers will complete the Behavior Intervention Monitoring Assessment System (BIMAS-2) for each student in their 2nd period classes.  BIMAS is a questionnaire that assesses social, emotional and behavioral functioning in children and adolescents. It is used for universal screening and to monitor the progress of interventions related to behavior and mental health.  Students received parent informational letters and opt-out forms this past Friday, September 6th, in their 2nd period classes.  If you do not want a teacher to complete the screening for your child, sign and return the opt-out form to the front office no later than this Thursday,  September 19th.  You can review the screener here.  Please reach out to Tracy Taylor at ttaylor5@wcpss.net with any questions.
    • There will be no school for students this Friday, September 20th due to a WCPSS Teacher Workday.
      Juniors/Seniors and their Parents:  There are two upcoming College Fairs in our area:
      HBCU Fair at Brougthon HS, Saturday, September 21st,from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM.
      WCPSS College Fair at the NCSU Mckimmon Center, Sunday, September 22nd, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.
    • The VMCCA PTSA is partnering with Panic Point in Youngsville. Anyone who buys a ticket online and uses the promo code “VMCCA” at checkout will get 10% off their tickets. The link to the website is: https://raleighhauntedhouse.com
    • Parents - Our annual School Beautification Day is scheduled for Saturday, September 28th from 8:00 to 11:00 AM.  Students and parents are encouraged to participate in beautifying our campus grounds. Please bring a pair of gloves and any tools you'd like!  We will also host a carwash during the morning to benefit our schoolwide service-learning project, the Walk for Hope.
    • Parents and Students: As we are moving toward cooler weather, this is a reminder that students are not to be wearing blankets around campus.  VMCCA can get cold, so please make certain that your student is dressed warmly.

    • Senior Parents: Please join Student Services for Senior Parent Night this Thursday, September 12th, from 6:30-8:00 PM in the Media Center. Topics covered include Grade 13 & other options after high school, the college application process, and scholarships & financial aid.

    • Parents and students: There will be no school for students and staff tomorrow Monday, September 2nd due to the Labor Day holiday.  School will be closed on that day.
    • Students: The annual VMCCA Club Fair will be this Friday, September 6th during lunches in the gymnasium.  Visit the event to see what clubs and organizations you can join.
    • For any families interested in applying for Free or Reduced meals, applications are available in the front office or you can apply online at: myschoolbucks.com.

    • Congratulations to VMCCA for being awarded as a National Certified Demonstration Magnet School by the Magnet Schools of America.  This is MSA’s top national school recognition.
    • Parents:  This is a reminder that all WCPSS traditional students return to school this week.  That will impact travel times to and from VMCCA.  Please plan accordingly.

    • Parents: Underclassmen Picture Day is this Thursday, August 22nd during the day.  Students will receive appointment slips for their photo time in their homeroom before that day.
    • A reminder about Carpool.  All students who are being dropped off are required to go through carpool.  Students should only be dropped off or picked up in the parking space if parents are here to complete school business.  This is a safety issue for all involved.
    • For any families interested in applying for Free or Reduced meals, applications are available in the front office or you can apply online at: myschoolbucks.com.
    • Join the PTSA in order to receive our emails. Parent memberships are $15 and can be purchased at the school store website. 
    • The PTSA will be taking orders for VMCCA t-shirts and hoodies. All orders need to be placed by this Friday, August 23rd in the PTSA School Store, as found on the VMCCA website.
    • Senior Parents: Please mark your calendars for our 2025 Graduation Rehearsal and Ceremony.  Rehearsal will be Tuesday, May 20th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.  The VMCCA Graduation Ceremony will be the next morning, Wednesday, May 21st at 8:00 AM.

    • Students and Parents: This has been a great first week of school.  We thank students for the energy and excitement they brought to our classrooms.
    • A reminder about Carpool.  All students who are being dropped off are required to go through carpool.  Students should only be dropped off or picked up in the parking space if parents are here to complete school business.  This is a safety issue for all involved.
    • Parents: Our Fall Open House, Meet the Teacher event is this Thursday, August 15th from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.  A parent information session will be for those whose students will start Wake Tech courses this year at 6:00 PM.  This event is an in-person event.  Students are welcome to attend. 
    • Parents: A reminder that VMCCA does have a dress code that it will enforce, should there be infractions.  We have already had several issues with students in crop tops that show their midriff.  Should a student be pulled for a dress code violation, he or she will need to change into appropriate clothing before returning to class.
    • Parents and Students: During the first week of school, we have allowed students to learn their schedules without the concern of them being tardy to class.  This will change tomorrow; students will need a tardy pass to enter a classroom after the final bell..

    Weekly Memo:  Good evening Silver Hawk families, this is Principal Carter Hillman with your Weekly Memo:

    • Students and Parents: Wednesday, August 7th, is the first day of school for students.  The school day is from 7:25 AM to 2:18 PM.  Students will be attending Homeroom, before first period, to receive  a hard copy of their schedule.  This year’s theme is Building to Excellence: Know My Name: Own My Story.  We are excited to have our students returning.
    • We are aware of incoming inclement weather and potential adjustments to our first week schedule. Wake County will be notifying parents based on weather determinations.   
    • Parents:  Students will receive classroom supply listings on the first few days of school.  If you have questions, you can discuss them with individual teachers on Meet the Teacher night.
    • A few first-day reminders:  Carpool is located on the right side of the school, when facing the school.  All students who are being dropped off are required to go through carpool.  Students can enter the building at 7:00 AM.  WCPSS and Wake Tech have dress codes that will be enforced in order to support safe and orderly classrooms.
    • Attention parents: Due to an abundance of caution, our Fall Open House, Meet the Teacher event have been moved to next Thursday, August 15th from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.  There will be a parent information session for those whose students will be starting Wake Tech courses this year at 6:00 PM.  This event is an in-person event.  Students are welcome to attend.

If your child is up to date with this booster, you can email the updated record to yssanders@wcpss.net.

    • Parents: The Spring Exam Schedule has been posted on the VMCCA Website.  EOC Exams will be completed this week. English II EOC tomorrow, Monday, May 20th and Math I & III EOCs on Tuesday, May 21st.  Wednesday, May 22nd is an Exam Makeup Day.  Students who have missed a Spring Exam should contact their teacher(s) to set up a time to make up their exam(s).
    • Seniors: Rehearsal for Graduation is Wednesday, May 22nd at Meymandi Hall, downtown Raleigh, at 8:30 AM. In order to participate in graduation, seniors MUST attend rehearsal. Please arrive for rehearsal no later than 8:15 AM.  During practice, each senior will receive 10 guest tickets for graduation.  There are no extra tickets available for this event.  The VMCCA Commencement Ceremony will be Thursday, May 23rd at 8:00 AM at Meymandi Hall, downtown Raleigh.  Seniors must arrive for graduation by 7:00 AM to be prepared for the event.  Do not be late.

    • Seniors and Parents: The VMCCA Senior Awards ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow, May 13th in the gymnasium at 6:00 PM.  Seniors and Junior Marshalls are to report to the Media Center by 5:00 PM.
    • Students will continue with Mandatory Hawks Nest this week as we prepare for final exams.  The schedule for this week will be May 13th - First Period Classes; May 14th - Second Period Classes; and May 15th Third Period Classes.
    • Parents: The Spring Exam Schedule has been posted on the VMCCA Website.  Look for the link on the green banner on the homepage.  Final exams will begin this week on Thursday, May 16th.
    • Parents:  Wake County Public Schools is administering a District Wide Family Survey through this Friday, May 17th. This survey provides families the opportunity to provide valuable information and a high-quality data source for planning and School Improvement.  The survey has been translated into various languages; Spanish, Arabic, French, Korean, Vietnamese, and Chinese to provide accessibility to families in Wake County Public Schools. The survey administration language can be chosen by families before taking the survey.  The link to access the survey can be found through the Principal’s Message: surveys.panoramaed.com/wakecounty/family.  You can also access the link by going to the VMCCA webpage and look for the green banner on the homepage.
