    Weekly Memo:  Good evening Silver Hawk families, this is Principal Carter Hillman with your Weekly Memo:

    • All information provided in this Memo is posted on the VMCCA website under the “Principal’s Message.”

    • Students: The Silver Hawks Campus Store is finally OPEN! Every Friday during lunch, students can drop by for spirit gear, supplies, and other fun things. The campus store accepts cash and cards. There is also a supply of free stress-relief coloring pages and crayons for anyone who wants one.

    • Parents: Students received a Final Exam Parent Permission form last Friday in order to leave school early after morning exams, if they do not have an afternoon exam.  Without a signed form, parents will need to check students out of school In Person.  The deadline for Parent Permission forms is Wednesday, December 14th.  Extra forms can be found in the main office. 

    • Parents: Monday, December 5th is an Early Release Day for students. Please be advised for those picking up their students, all students will be released from school at 11:48 AM.  

    • Students: Mandatory Hawks Nest will begin on Friday, December 9th for all first period classes; Monday, December 12th for second period; Tuesday, December 13th for third period; and Wednesday, December 14th for fourth period.

    • Students and Parents: Student Council will be sponsoring a children's book and toy drive for the holiday season.  Students and staff are encouraged to donate new or slightly used books and toys for young children.  The holiday drive will begin Monday, December 12th and run through Tuesday, December 20th.

    • Students: VMCCA will be celebrating the upcoming holiday with holiday theme days.  Monday, December 12th will be Holiday Hat day; Tuesday, December 13th will be Holiday Sleep Pant Day; and Wednesday, December 14th will be Ugly Sweater Day.  We hope everyone joins in on the celebration.

    • Parents: Final exams begin on Thursday, December 15th. The schedule can be found on the main page of the school’s website.  Students have two weeks remaining in the semester.  Please take this opportunity to review and discuss your student’s PowerSchool grades.

    • Parents: The VMCCA PTSA is announcing its No-Fuss Fundraiser. A no-fuss fundraiser means there is nothing to sell and 100% of the money raised goes directly to the school. Students received a flyer during homeroom about how to participate in the fundraiser, or see the fundraiser link on the PTSA page on the VMCCA website.

    • Students:  Awesome job from the students and staff at VMCCA during the recent Canned Food Drive.  Over 700 cans were collected for a local food bank.  VMCCA really stepped up to help the community through its generosity.  Great work, Silver Hawks!

    • Parents: VMCCA Student Council’s annual Canned Food Drive ends Tuesday, November 22nd.  They will be accepting canned and non-perishable items.  STUCO will have grade level boxes made up and out in the atrium.  There will also be a drop-off during carpool in the mornings.  The grade level with the most contributions will receive an ice cream party during lunch. All donations will support our local Wake County food bank.

    • Parents: There will be no school for students and staff from Wednesday, November 23rd through Friday, November 25th due to the Thanksgiving holiday.  The building will be closed for business during those days.

    • Parents: Final exams begin on Thursday, December 15th.  Students have three weeks remaining in the semester.  Please take this opportunity to review and discuss your student’s PowerSchool grades.

    • We would like to congratulate our own Ms. Browder, who was elected as Vernon Malone’s Teacher of the Year.  She will now represent our school for the Wake County Teacher of the Year selection later this school year.  

    • Parents: VMCCA Student Council will begin their annual Canned Food Drive tomorrow, Monday, November 14th and will run it through Tuesday, November 22nd.  They will be accepting canned and non-perishable items.  STUCO will have grade level boxes made up and out in the atrium.  There will also be a drop-off during carpool in the mornings.  The grade level with the most contributions will receive an ice cream party during lunch.     • Sophomore Parents and Students:  All 10th grade students will take the PreACT on Tuesday, November 15th. While PreACT scores do not impact a student's grade, they do provide a free opportunity to experience what the ACT will be like when students take it in their junior year. It is an excellent practice test and they will receive detailed score reports to help prepare for the ACT. The test will take place during the school day during 1st and 2nd periods. 

    • Parents: Students have four weeks remaining in the first semester before we get to final exams. Several of these weeks are shortened due to teacher workdays and holidays.  Final exams begin on Thursday, December 15th.  Please take this opportunity to review and discuss your student’s PowerSchool grades.

    • Parents: There will be no school for students and staff from Wednesday, November 23rd through Friday, November 25th due to the Thanksgiving holiday.  The building will be closed for business during those days.

    • Parents: Your students received this letter last Friday, regarding the BIMAS Universal Screener.  If you do not want your student to participate in the implementation of this screening process this year, please return the “Opt Out” form (2nd page of letter) by Monday, November 7th to the front office.

    • Parents:  All WCPSS parents received an email a few weeks ago that provided you with the opportunity to voice your thoughts, via a Google survey, concerning school start times for elementary, middle and high schools in the county.  Please review this email and take the opportunity to provide your opinions.

    • Students and Parents: Should your student decide to wear a costume to school on Monday, please keep in mind that it needs to be within the parameters of WCPSS dress code policies.  No masks or face paint will be allowed.

    • Parents: Students have six weeks remaining in the first semester before we get to final exams. Several of these weeks are shortened due to teacher workdays and holidays.  Please take this opportunity to review and discuss your student’s PowerSchool grades.

    • Parents:  All WCPSS parents received an email last week that provided you with the opportunity to voice your thoughts, via a Google survey, concerning school start times for elementary, middle and high schools in the county.  Please review this email and take the opportunity to provide your opinions.

    •  Attention students: VMCCA will be hosting its Fall Dance the “Spooky Ball” next Friday, October 28th from 7:00 to 10:00 PM in the school’s gym.  Pre-sale, online tickets are currently on sale and cash ticket sales will begin on Monday, October 24th during lunch.  There will be no tickets sold at the door. PTSA will also sell tickets for a hot dog dinner package (hot dog, chips, drink, and dessert) for $5.00 in advance and $7.00 during the dance.  Students may dress in costumes but cannot wear masks or have their faces painted.

    • Parents, due to PrePSAT testing on Wednesday, students received their first quarter report cards last Thursday, October 13th.  We are pleased to announce that 75% of our students had a “B” or above average for the quarter.  Take this week time to review and discuss your student’s grades via PowerSchools.

    • Students have approximately an hour for lunch daily.  We provide this to allow students the daily opportunity to complete missing work, meet with teachers, and get extra help.  If your student needs support, they can receive that help every day.

    • Students: The week of October 10th through the 14th is VMCCA’s fall spirit week.  The week’s events will focus around a college theme.  More information will be provided to students via morning announcements and posters. 

    • Parents: Students will be receiving their first quarter report cards this Wednesday, October 12th, during their first period classes.

    • Attention Seniors and Parents:  Senior portraits make-up day will be this Thursday, October 13, 2022 at VMCCA, from 7:30 AM to 12:00 noon.  There is no cost for setting for these photos and you can sign-up for setting sessions at the school. Senior Portraits included in your school’s yearbook will require students dressed in either a Black Drape or a Tuxedo. Prestige will provide these outfits at the time of your session. Please wear appropriate undergarments under these outfits. We suggest a white t-shirt for the tux and something strapless to wear under the drape.  If you are looking to have casual portraits done, Prestige Portraits offers sessions that include formals and casuals at our studio locations.     • This Friday, October 14th, to finish off College Week, all students will have the opportunity to participate in VMCCA’s College Fair where 20-plus colleges and universities will be coming on campus to meet with our students.

    • There will be no school for students tomorrow Monday, October 3rd,  and Tuesday, October 4th, as VMCCA has teacher workdays.
