    Weekly Memo:  Good evening Silver Hawk families, this is Principal Carter Hillman with your Weekly Memo:

    • Senior Parents: VMCCA is offering a refresher to the Signs of Suicide Prevention and Awareness training to all our 12th graders. Students currently taking English 4 Honors will receive this presentation this Thursday, December 7th. A letter with additional information was sent home last Thursday. 
    • Senior Parents and Students: The Free Application for Financial Aid Application opens this month, by December 31st.  This is a great time to start getting prepared by meeting with our Financial Aid Counselor, Audrey Lee.  She will be at VMCCA on Tuesdays.   She is available to meet with students and/or families.  Information is kept confidential.  You can communicate with her via email at anlee@wcpss.net and/or use the link below to schedule an appointment.  https://calendar.app.google/EEVzQfYptKwVeZcE6
    • Parents: A reminder that students need a signed Early Release Form returned to the front office by this Friday, December 8th in order to leave school early during final exams.
    • Parents and Students:  In preparation for Final Exams, there will be mandatory Hawks Nest from Friday, December 8th through Wednesday, December 13th.  Final Exams begin on Thursday, December 14th and continue through Exam Makeup Day on Wednesday, December 20th.
    • Senior Parents and Students: A reminder that for Seniors to be exempt from teacher-made final exams, students must have a “B” or higher average and have ten or fewer absences for the class.
    • VMCCA FBLA is hosting a fundraiser for Rise Against Hunger, an international relief organization that provides nutritious meals to school children and families in need around the world.  The event is scheduled for Saturday, December 16th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at 3200 Wellington Court in Raleigh.  FBLA is looking for an additional 15 volunteers to work with them in packaging meals. The cost to package a meal is just 40 cents per meal. With your support, FBLA can reach its school goal of $2000 to package 5,184 meals. This is an amazing hands-on opportunity for students to make a tangible impact in the lives of hungry children. Please consider donating to help us reach our goal.     • Congratulations to Ms. Tammy King who was selected as the VMCCA 2023-24 Teacher of the Year.  She will go on to represent the school for the Wake County Teacher of the Year selected in the spring.
    • Parents and Students:  There will be no school from Wednesday, November 22nd through Friday, November 24th due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.  The school will be closed these days for business.  Students will return to school on Monday, November 27th.

    • Students and Parents:  The VMCCA Spirit Week is this week.  Theme days have been posted throughout the campus.  Join in the spirit of the week and show some Silver Hawk pride.
    • Ninth Grade Parents: This Tuesday, November 14th, students in Healthful Living class will be discussing Human Trafficking Safety. NC Senate Bill 279 mandates that all students in grades 7-9 receive instruction concerning trafficking prevention and awareness. A letter with additional information will be sent home on Monday, November 6th. 
    • Students: If you missed information shared during the daily morning announcements, you can access it at the link provided in the Principal’s Message https://bit.ly/vmccanews, or find the QR codes that are hanging around the building.  You must be signed into your Wake ID in order to access.  We suggest you bookmark this page for future reference.
    • Parents: Need help with stress management, counseling services/referrals, food & housing, etc.?     • Parents and Students: Students are off from school several days this week; There are two WCPSS teacher workdays on Tuesday, November 7th and Thursday, November 9th.  There is no school for students on these days.  Also, Friday, November 10th is the Veterans Day national holiday.  There is no school for students and staff.  The building will be closed on that day.

Apply for NC Governor’s School - a four-week summer residential program for academically talented high school students. Learn new concepts in engaging classes and seminars without the pressure of grades and tests. Visit the NC Governor's School website to learn more. The deadline for application is this Wednesday, November 1st.  All application materials must be submitted to VMCCA.

    • A reminder to all parents in carpool. Students are to be dropped off and picked up in the carpool line by the front of the school.  We have many parents pulling into visitors' parking spots to drop off and pick up their students.  This not only causes a slowing of traffic but creates the potential for students to be hit while attempting to cross the street.  Further, students should not be dropped off or picked up on Wilmington Street.  It can be a dangerous location where vehicles are driving at high speed in both lanes.

    • Parents: Students received first quarter report cards last Friday during FlyFriday.
    • Attention Seniors:  CFNC Countdown to College started October 1st.  Go to  cfnc.org/c2c for more information about all of the activities during the month including Free College Application Week from October 16-20.  
    • Seniors: Senior Portraits will take place this Thursday, October 12th. Seniors who had not had the formal “drape or tux” photo taken were given their assigned time during last FlyFriday time.  There is no sitting fee for these portraits. 
    • Juniors and Seniors: if you wish to purchase a lunch pass for the 2nd quarter, you have until this Friday, October 13th to do so. After this date you will have to wait until the start of the 3rd quarter.
    • Parents: VMCCA students will now go through Susanna Langdon at Jordan Driving School for registration and class assignment.  Her email address is slangdon@jordandriving.com.

    • There will be no school for students tomorrow, October 2nd and Tuesday, October 3rd due to WCPSS Teacher Workdays.  Second quarter classes will begin on Wednesday, October 4th.
    • Attention Seniors:  CFNC Countdown to College starts October 1st.  Go to  cfnc.org/c2c for more information about all of the activities during the month including Free College Application Week from October 16-20.  
    • Parents and Students:  The Campus Beautification Day has been rescheduled for this Saturday, October 7th from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.  Hours worked at this event are considered Community Service Hours.
    • Parents: Many of our students will be participating in the Walk for Hope this Sunday, October 8th. The cost for participating or sponsoring a student for the event is $30.00.  To access the school team link is:  VMCCA Team link.

    • Parents: Please join the VMCCA Student Services team for Senior College Night on Thursday, September 28th from 6:00 to 7:30 PM in the Media Center.  Topics to be covered include the college application process, scholarships & financial aid, and Grade 13.  There will be representatives from Wake Tech and UNC Chapel Hill to present on the college application process and the new Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). 
    • Parents: This past Thursday, 9th grade students received the SOS – Signs of Suicide Prevention and Awareness training in their Healthful Living class. Additional resources can be found in the MindWise Innovations website: https://www.mindwise.org/parents/
    • Any families interested in applying for Free or Reduced meals, applications are available in the front office or you can apply online at: MySchoolApps.com.
