    Meet The Team

    Ms. Blazey is a graduate of The Hartt School of Music. She has her National Board Certification in elementary music education. She was born and raised in upstate New York just outside of Rochester. She has two children, Michael and Rachel, and a sweet black, mixed-breed dog named Toby. She has been singing since she was three years old and has played piano since late elementary school. She has a very strong bond with Boston, Massachusetts since her sister's family has lived there for more than twenty years. Of course, if you love Boston, you have to love the Red Sox as well! One unique fact about Ms. Blazey, she has a little bit of an addiction to puzzles.

    Coach Mulford is a sports enthusiast who has spent his entire life playing or teaching athletics. He is originally from upstate NY where he graduated from Stamford Central High School and College at SUNY Brockport. After relocating to Tempe, AZ and then to Monterey CA, coach Mulford spent several years as a golf professional and mini tour player. He was also the Director of Golf Instruction at Bayonet & Black Horse Golf Courses in Monterey CA. where he mentored one of the best junior programs on the West Coast. It was also in Monterey where coach Mulford resumed his teaching career at Monterey High School before relocating to Raleigh in 2010 and coming to work at Weatherstone Elementary. Coach is married to Erica Mulford. They have four children; Davis, Haley, Annie, Margaret.

    Mrs. Reid comes from a family of educators and is a lifelong learner. She moved to North Carolina after graduating from University of Delaware, but her roots are in Westchester County New York. She received her Masters in Curriculum Instruction and Supervision from NC State. In addition, she holds a Masters in Library Science from NCCU. She is currently a Nationally Board Certified Teacher in Middle Childhood Development. She is a mom of two wonderful boys named Sean and Jayden. Reading is her passion and she hopes to instill a love of reading in all students at Weatherstone. Ms. Whalen loves dark chocolate, Starbucks coffee, and Gerber daisies. She spends summers at the pool playing, digging in the sand at the beach, or reading a good book! At our school she has the pleasure of being the mentor coordinator of all our wonderfully talented new teachers. However, what she loves to do best is teach and learn from students. Let’s have a wonderful year!

    Mrs. Navecky is a native North Carolinan. She has been an educator for more than 25 years. She graduated from East Carolina University (AARGH...pirates!) with a degree in special education and certification in preschool disabilities. She and her husband have 8 children between them.  In her free time she enjoys live music and performances, local festivals and outings, and exploring secondhand thrift and consignment boutiques in search of cast away treasures.


    PE: Darren Cusanelli

    Coach Cusanelli is a beginning teacher who prides himself on bringing lots of positive energy and fun to all staff and students. Born and raised in New York, he attended SUNY Cortland to earn his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management. He has two sisters; one in California and the other in South Carolina where his parents moved to. North Carolina has become Coach Cusanelli’s home and some of his hobbies include playing hockey, listening to music, spending time with his family and friends, and spending time with his crazy German Shepard named Nyx. One of his biggest goals is to convert all the students who are Hurricane fans to become NY Islander fans! We wish him luck with that.

    Mrs. Self grew up in Florida but North Carolina is home since 2002. She’s been in the Charlotte area most of this time attending high school, college, and graduate school. She was elated to teach abroad in South Korea in 2011! Her teaching experience ranges from teaching 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades to teaching the Technology special area classes to being an instructional technology facilitator and now getting to teach STEM & AIG here at Weatherstone! The past three years she’s been a rural teacher & realtor in Rutherford county. In addition to this, a gardener, goat and chicken farmer, bee keeper and home renovator! She’s excited to start new in this area to simplify & focus on family, career, and traveling. She has three children here at Weatherstone, a traveling husband, and two certified ESA Mini Aussie dogs. When not at school they’re swimming, biking, exploring or doing art. She’s so excited about what fun this year will bring!
