    Medical Bio-Science Academy Curriculum

    LANGUAGE (6 credits required)
    English I-IV (4 credits)
    World Language (2 credits; Spanish preferred)

    MATH (4 credits required)
    4 credits required with one credit beyond Math III

    SCIENCE ( 3 required credits)
    Biology, Chemistry, Earth/AP Environmental Science

    MBSA Science elective (1 required credit)
    Health Sci pathway: Anatomy & Physiology or Physics or IB Sports, Exercise, and Health Science*
    Animal Sci Pathway: Biomedical Technology

    SOCIAL STUDIES (4 credits required)
    World History, American History, EPF, FPUSANCCL

    HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION (1 credit required)
    Healthful Living (Honors)

    MBSA REQUIRED ELECTIVES: student can choose between the Health Science or Animal Science Pathway after freshman year 
    Health Science Pathway
    9th grade (1 credit):   Health Science I (H)
    10th grade (1 credit): Biomedical Technology (H)
    11th grade (1 credit): Health Science II (H)
    12th grade (1 credit) choose ONE course:  Pharmacy Tech (H), Biomedical Innovations, Wake Tech class (CNA/ EMT) or IB SPEX* 
    *cannot count for MBSA and science credit/can only count as MBSA credit 12th-grade year

    Animal Science Pathway
    9th grade (1 credit):   Health Science I (H)
    10th grade (1 credit): Animal Science I (H)
    11th grade (1 credit): Animal Science II (H)
    12th grade (1 credit) choose ONE course: Vet Assisting (H)


    Between 11th & 12th grade year: Required Internships
    Health occupation internship credit (120 hours).  This can be done during the summer.


    ADDITIONAL MBSA ELECTIVES (2 credits required) Courses cannot be used for more than one category! If a course is used to fit an above category, it cannot be used here. EMT (seniors only), Physics (any level), Certified Nursing Assistant, Research, Microbiology (.5), Human Diseases (.5), Animal Behavior (.5), AP Chemistry, AP Biology, Genetics (.5), Animal Behavior (.5), Anatomy, Sports Med 1-4, Pharmacy Tech, Psychology and Literature, Child Development, College Writing, AP Statistics, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, CPR and First Aid, Sociology, Public Speaking, Computer Science, AP Psychology, Physical Education Elective, Visual or Performing Arts, a business course, IB Sports, Exercise, and Health Science, or a Wake Tech Health Science course. Any elective will count. 
     
    *(H) It does not matter whether the class taken is honors or non-honors. As long as the class is taken and passed it counts.
