The Underwood Gifted and Talented Magnet Elementary Counseling Department's mission is to provide a comprehensive developmental program for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. The goals are to remove or reduce barriers and provide equitable access so that students can grow in their academic, social-emotional and career exploration development. 1. Our Needs Assessment

Our school counseling program addresses equity and access because we have a team of staff that are caring and diligent about assessing the needs of children and families so that:

-We can meet them where they are; and

-Support them in the ways and means in which they need or want.  in providing school-wide classroom counseling that helps remove the barriers that children face.

    1. Second Step Program

In addition, the Second Step classroom counseling program is research-based, equitable and accessed by every grade level in the school. The program helps all students perform at the same level and meet children's individual needs that will help them succeed in school and  in life.
