Assistant Principal Mitch Weaver
Education is about relationships. As a student, I experienced the positive influence of so many teachers, counselors, and administrators. These relationships motivated me to enter into education as a theatre teacher at Enloe High School where I also served as an administrative intern. I had the honor of opening Vernon Malone College and Career Academy as its first Assistant Principal in 2014.
I have worked tirelessly to create and maintain a strong school culture and educational programs that mark the foundation of VMCCA. I have facilitated integration of initiatives designed to enhance the school environment, including Project Based Learning, Critical Friends, and PBIS programs. These initiatives helped to establish a creative and collaborative school culture.
In 2016, I was faced with the biggest struggle of my professional career. VMCCA experienced catastrophic damage from Hurricane Matthew. Over two feet of water flooded the entire school, displacing students and staff to multiple campuses across the county. Through collaboration with our staff and other county leaders, we were able to maintain high rigor in the classroom and strengthen relationships with students. Since returning to our campus, I have worked diligently to restore our school’s culture and help make our school the family it is today.
